Australian CRUFTS 09 AUSTRALIAN TERRIER Judge(s): Mrs Z Thorn-Andrews Australian Terriers PD (2) 1 McCourt’s Silhill Red Dragon, smart, sound puppy full of life & character, liked his length of foreface, strong broad jaws, neat ears, OK in front, perfect backline & underline, powerful quarters & good power from there. In super coat & muscletone, superb type & quality. CC & BP; 2 Stoddart’s Millvalley Rorie More, just a little on the leg maybe. Appealed for typical head & eyes, neat ears, excellent front & forechest. Not quite as good behind as in front. Well handled & presented. JD (3) 1 Eardley’s Millvalley Rantin’ Robin at Sherex, attractive boy full of himself, great head, relatively small dark eyes, good neck, ruff & apron, OK in front but excited, encouraging him to swing it a touch. Super level back, powerful impressive quarters, smooth side gait, a nice youngster. RCC; 2 Stoddart’s Millvalley The Exciseman, OK for size, neck & front. A little too short in muzzle for his backskull & ribs still need to spring. Good rear & tailset, would prefer it carried straighter; 3 Simpkins’ Iandor Love Me Tender, good head & expression. A little upright in shoulder & short steps coming towards. Good ribbing & body. Topline could be straighter. Excellent quarters & rear movement. LD (2) 1 Jones’ Wyeafon Torchwood, too big but preferred his coat, body & front. Super muscletone & a smart impressive dog to go over, pleasing body & ribbing, level firm back, OK in head. Ears could be set a little higher. Moved OK in profile & front; 2 Lapthorne & Thompson’s Jenina Jasper James, very long & front not so good as winners. He is a better size though, OK in head & neck. A bit between coats. Keeps his topline moving & tail set well up. OD (8) Lovely class. 1 McCourt & Eardley’s Ch Silhill Tufty with Sherex, a touch over long in coat & big enough but he is a classy dog. Super to go over, excellent topknot, ruff & apron, true front, good body & topline, powerful rear; 2 Hodgson & Seaton’s Brimartz Hold Your Fire, a touch overlong in coat but liked his head & front, good legs & feet. Tail set could be a wee bit higher set. Moved well all round & a nice texture to coat; 3 Stoddart’s Ch Millvalley Red Rufus, all a terrier & in perfect coat, liked his head, neck & front, super topline. Just in need of more angulation behind & short steps in rear. Well handled & presented. VB (3) Three lovely oldies. 1 McCourt’s Ch Millvalley Monopoly at Silhill, very hard & fit, pleasing head. Ears could be set a little higher & she is a touch tall. I admired her front, bone & feet, correct topline, powerful driving rear & hard coat; 2 Tyrrell’s Belyndi Liberty Bell, smart bitch. Not quite as level in topline & tail not set quite so high but pleasing to put one’s hands on, good proportions of length to height, very well angulated rear; 3 Tyrrell & Foskett’s Wilfnbell Spirit of Liberty, alert & showing well, front set a little too far forward but she has a well ribbed back body, very good topline & tail, neat quarters, in good coat too. PB (2) 1 Tompson & Lapthorne’s Jenina Juniper, too short in foreface & wide in backskull which gives her a wide set on of ears. Good neck & front, OK in body for age & although her tail is far too curly, it is set well. Moves nicely in profile; 2 Lapthorne & Thompson’s Jenina J’Adore, similar type of head, this one also has very upright shoulders set into her neck which gives her a too sharp definition of withers. Lovely body & quarters for age, hard jacket. Tail too curly. JB (4) 1 Simpkins’ Iandor She’s Hot To Go, stood away here, has the correct length & strength of skull & foreface, slight stop, lengthy neck & front OK, good legs & tidy feet, well bodied for a junior & good in quarters. Tail too curly but set OK. In lovely harsh coat of rich colour, super mover all round; 2 Thompson’s Wyeafon Poledancer, not as balanced front & rear as 1. OK for size, strong foreface, good coat. A touch stiff in rear movement; 3 Jones’ Wyeafon Kiss Me Kate, very similar & close decision. Swinging her front more than 1. PGB (5) 1 Sild’s Truozzy’s Hand In Hand, good strong bitch to go over, very much a terrier, well put together, smooth shoulders, good legs & feet, well bodied without being overdone in ribs, great quarters, had the best bend of stifle so far, nice set-on of tail & attractive head & expression, moved out well all round. RCC; 2 Thompson’s Wyeafon Buy On Red, maybe a little more feminine than 1 which I liked but not quite the rear & bend of stifle she had. Good for size, type & proportions of height to length, moved OK; 3 Cox’s Brimartz Firelight at Petitpaws, a trifle overweight in body & coat a little ragged. She too was well made & kept perfect topline, sound rear & well set on tail. LB (3) 1 Small’s Silhill Solitaire of Bethane, well proportioned red bitch, super strength to muzzle, good neck, ruff & apron, OK in front. Tending to paddle coming towards. Lovely body & rear, in good harsh jacket, showed well; 2 Jones’ Silhill Bluemoon over Wyeafon, smart neat bitch, very precise moving but doesn’t cover as much ground as winner & short steps a touch. Good hard coat of lovely colour, strong legs & feet, well handled; 3 Skelton’s Brimartz Catch Me If You Can, not in her best coat & a little too short & square looking. Happy girl who was enjoying her day out. OB (6) Lovely class full of quality bitches. 1 Stoddart’s Ch Millvalley Diva, pleasing to go over, excellent head. Ears a bit big perhaps. Sound front well under her, super topline, tail set & powerful rear, in good coat with ruff & apron, strong head, a real terrier expression, really went very well indeed, cleverly handled too. CC & BOB; 2 McCourt & Dibartolomio’s Ch Silhill Sweet Pea, very good bitch, I preferred the pigment of 1 & 3 but she too was pleasing in head & body. Smashing coat, well made but slightly shorter stride than winner. Shows well; 3 McCourt’s Ch Silhill Glitz ‘N’ Glamour, nice classy bitch. Could have had more coat on her back. Liked her head, neck & front end. A wee bit straight in stifle & long in hock compared to above two. GCB (1) 1 Cox’s Spitewinter Causing Chaos at Petitpaws, nice for size & head proportions. Rather overweight in body which spoilt her topline a little. Moved true but could use a little more extension in rear. ZENA THORN-ANDREWS
