AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TERRIER 10 Judge/s:Miss Lyn Bell (Belyndi) AUSTRALIAN JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 10 Australian Terriers I was pleased to have so many pups & young dogs in the classes. It’s always good when there are new Aussies coming up through the ranks for the future. However, Aussies can take such a long time to become the finished dog. Plus Aussies do seem to develop at different rates, so the result was a lot of dogs that were still quite immature when compared to some of the more mature Aussies. I was looking for that blend of typical Aussie shape, expression & strong movement to support the fact an Aussie can do a day’s work & all finished with the distinctive ruff, apron & topknot. All these combine with the Aussie personality. Since I last judged I found the toplines were much better. However, from a personal preference I would like to see little more strength in the jaws & bigger teeth. I hope all the youngsters continue to be shown & give a great deal of pleasure to their owners. MPD (1) 1 Goodwin’s Spitewinter Agapenthus, very smart & confident pup. Well proportioned head with a flat skull. Good pigmentation to enhance the typical Aussie expression. Strong tan. Level topline, which was kept on the move. Good tailset. His front is straight on the move & standing & has neat catlike feet. Strong loins. He covered the ring well. He is very immature at the moment & needs a little more time to develop his full potential. PD (1) 1 Brown’s Millvalley Blue Dashwood at Ralindi, good sized pup with correct bone for his size. Was confident in the ring. Pleased to see the body coat is already breaking to blue. Good coat texture & correct colour tan. Nice eye shape & pigmentation. Well proportioned head with flat skull & strong jaw. Length of back gave the typical shape of an Aussie. Front is good, mouth OK. The topline was level & kept it on the move. JD (1) 1 Brown’s Ralindi The Executor, I liked the size & substance on this pup as he stood in the ring. Masculine head & it balanced with the rest of his body. The right length of back. It was a shame the pup had a previous bad experience on a table, but was able to see enough to asses the key points. Lovely head & expression, good mouth & strong jaws. Correct coat. Moved out well. Was the best dog pup, as he was the most mature & developed. PGD (2,1a )1 Foskett, Tyrrell & Freer’s Hisnibbs, for me this is a very typical Aussie dog. A masculine head with the correct length of strong muzzle. His head is in balance to the rest of his body. The right depth of chest & good spring of ribs. He had the right amount of bone for his size. A good length of back to equate to his height. Coat was a good colour, but on the brink of changing. Level topline retained on the move, well turned stifle & powerful hind action. Still a youngster but well deserved CC. LD(2,1a) 1 Jackson & Foskett’s Mistabert Red Rascal, another with a masculine head, good mouth with powerful jaws. Good depth of chest & spring of ribs. A new coat coming through on his back of a good colour & texture. Level topline which he retained on the move. Well boned. Would have liked a little more length of back. His hind action was OK, but front needs to tighten a little more. Again, he is still a young dog. OD (3) 1 McCourt’s Ch Silhill Red Dragon, this dog won the class as I liked length of neck & back giving that distinctive shape of an Aussie, which was further emphasised by his showy attitude. Proportioned head with a flat skull. Soft topknot & the important furnishings were there to give the full package of an adult male Aussie. Good depth of chest & spring of ribs. Level topline & moved OK. RCC; 2 Jones’ Silhill Blue Velvet from Wyeafon, I did like this b/t dog as he combined the masculinity, size & typical outline. Flat skull & soft topknot. Good body coat texture, colour & pigmentation. With a tailset & topline finishing off the picture. Depth of chest just right. Lovely head & expression. Moved OK. 1 just got the edge with his showy attitude; 3 Lingham’s Jenina Jake. MPB (1) 1 Jones’ Wyeafon Calypso Magic, showy pup not in awe of the showring. Moved so confidently. Good colour & coat. Lovely tan. Neat ears & lovely tail & tailset. Still a youngster in many ways & like many in the classes looks like she will develop her qualities over the coming months. PB (2) 1 Simpkins’ Gowabunga Gypsy Queen of Iandor, liked this bitch although she was not sure she really wanted to be at the show today. She had a lovely outline & when she decided to move covered the ring well. Liked the length of neck & back, which gave that elegance I look for in the Aussie & in particular a bitch. Level topline & nice tailset. Catlike feet. Nice new coat coming through of the right texture; 2 Brown’s Ralindi Eartha Kitt, happy & showy pup with a good coat colour. Nice eye & expression. She has the start of a leather as well. Liked the dark pigmentation which contributes to the look. She had catlike feet. Still a little immature & like so many Aussie pups looks like she will take time to mature. JB (3) 1 Brown’s Ralinda Express Yourself, liked this Aussie’s typical shape with a neck & length of back to give the typical look of the breed. She is a good sized bitch with a well proportioned head & flat skull. Good mouth & strength of jaw. Lovely double coat of a good colour & texture. Bone right for her size. Moved OK. Won BP as in the challenge outshone the dog pup; 2 Cook’s Wilfnbell Miss Mulberry, looks like this youngster is going through the leggy phase, which is not uncommon for Aussies. I forgave the immaturity as she showed & moved very well. A level topline which she kept on the move & length of neck which blended into her shoulders. Well turned stifle. Good b/t colour; 3 Stoddart’s Millvalley Maggi-Blue. PGB (5) 1 Simpkins’ Iandor She’s Hot To Go, another bitch who had the correct length of back & height proportions. She is a good size & had elegant neck & head. Moved well & covered the ground well, Nice depth of chest. Was pleased to see she had a leather developing. She showed her good points well; 2 Jackson’s Mistabert Nardones Scamp, for me this bitch stood out for her size, good head with punishing jaw, scissor bite & large teeth. Just as an Aussie should be. She is a well made bitch, although obviously likes her food & was a little overweight. Correct depth of chest & level topline. Coat of correct texture. Nice tailset; 3 Jones’ Wyeafon Mystique. LB (2,1) 1 Thompson & Lapthorne’s Jenina J’Adore, well muscled bitch who deserved a 1st. I liked the fact she has correct eye colour & dark pigmentation. Good mouth. In proportion & very workmanlike. Good coat, colour & texture. Moved out well. Great topline which was kept on the move. OB (5) 1 McCourt & Bartolomio’s Ch Silhill Sweet Pea, this bitch had the most typical expression of all the dogs here today. A varminty look, good pigmentation & small ears to enhance it. She has very typical Aussie in personality, which today showed itself in the verbal demands for titbits from her handler. She had such a typical Aussie arched neck & length of back. Her height was spot on to give that shape which make the Aussie different to the other terriers. She was very showy which just gives the finishing touch to the package. Her coat colour was correct, as was the texture. She had the ruff & apron, again distinctive features & what you expect to see in the adult. CC & BOB; 2 Stoddart’s Ch Millvalley Red Ruby, such a typical Aussie bitch. I liked her expression & pigmentation. Nice eyes & mouth OK. She had the correct proportions to give her the typical Aussie outline & catlike feet. Level topline, which was maintained on the move & tailset OK. She moved out very well. Good depth of chest. Was not as showy as 1; 3 Skelton’s Brimartz Catch Me If You Can.
