BORDER BOSTON 2010 Judge(s) MARION REEVES DCC RAGATAM HARRIS JW (MISS T PEACOCK) Border Terriers I was the replacement judge for Carolyn Muirhead who sadly died in November. Firstly I want to congratulate all the exhibitors who made it to the show in spite of the atrocious weather conditions. I was very afraid there would be few dogs there for me to judge. What a tough lot Border folk are. I had plenty of quality dogs to fill the top placings but as a general comment I felt a number lacked sufficient rear angulation. MPD (6,2a) 1 Peacock’s Ragatam Lets Go, gr/t, liked his length of body, well placed shoulders & rear angulation, head of good skull to muzzle proportions, in good harsh coat, very promising puppy; 2 Baker’s Bandicoot Integrity to Jaslou, no coat but liked his size, shape & good angulation, well developed for age; 3 Sneddon’s Justinca Ryan by Kersfell. PD (5,2) 1 J Ryan by K, handy size, especially pleasing head qualities, straight front, good hind angulation & harsh double coat. Would prefer more length of body; 2 Watson & Kenna’s Brumborder River Explorer at Cynetkoy, liked his size & overall balance, good ottery head; 3 Wallace’s Hobholt Han Solo. JD (4,1) 1 Willis’ Badgerbeck Beau Geste, gr/t, handsome boy, well balanced, super outline, excellent shoulders, well ribbed back, straight front, typical head, neat ears, nice big teeth, in good quality double coat, moved out straight & true. BPD; 2 Hollingsbee’s Xapex Santiago at Otterwood, bl/t, neat size, very pleasing head qualities, straight front, well bent stifles; 3 Lockley’s Brave Rebellion at Chatmoss. YD (5,2) 1 Bailey’s Grindelvald In Full Cry, lovely dog, narrow all through & easily spanned, quality head, nice reach of neck into best of shoulders, level topline & well set tail, straight front, neat tight feet, well ribbed back, moved with drive. RCC; 2 Mitchell’s Ragatam Jocker at Paleside, handy size, pleasing angulation, excellent coat & pelt, good feet, head of correct proportions; 3 Lockley’s Brave Rebellion at Chatmoss. PGD (8,4) 1 Willis’ Mazengarb Treacle, bl/t, in full coat but I found plenty to like beneath it. Well placed shoulders, good length of rib, excellent rear angulation, straight front, strong masculine head, happy friendly dog, moved out really well; 2 Pateman’s Lessien Dinx Boy Oberon, grizzle, harsh coat, straight front, good angles; 3 Sneddon & Rose’s Kersfell Quest. LD (10,1) The best class of the day for depth of quality. The first four dogs placed were all of high quality. 1 Patchett’s Chase Me Kato at Thorpe, just had the edge for his narrowness, excellent length of rib, level topline, well placed shoulders, excellent angulation, well shaped skull & strong jaw, in super hard coat, moved out with purpose; 2 Gilpin’s Otterbob’s Riggindale, similar qualities as 1, moved with plenty of drive; 3 Dickinson’s Blackmine Rossington to Badgerholme. OD (6,2) 1 Peacock’s Ragatam Harris, red, truly typical Border, not extreme in any way but just right, well balanced & narrow, pleasing in all departments, moved out with precision. CC, BOB & G3; 2 Wallace’s Hobholt Harrier, a dog I have always admired but he was not looking his best, more ring confidence would help; 3 Sneddon’s Kersfell Comet. MPB (10,2) 1 Roberts’ Smalesmouth Maylady, b/t, excels in reach of neck, shoulder placement & level topline, narrow all through, head developing with promise, moved out freely; 2 Pickering’s Picer Grace Darling, in super harsh coat, well ribbed back, straight front, compact feet, feminine head. Preferred shoulder placement of 1; 3 Docwra’s Bandicoot Jazz. PB (8,4) 1 Guvercin’s Achnagairn Code Name Glebeheath, g/t, well constructed throughout, straight front, well placed shoulders, excellent topline, very pleasing head qualities, in harsh coat, thick pelt, moved out with purpose. BP & PG3; 2 Docwra’s Bandicoot Serenade, liked her length of back & angulation, narrow all through, possessed some appealing head qualities; 3 Gilpin’s Otterbobs Truant. JB (7,3) 1 Clark’s Southash Blue Betty Boo Gameway, b/t, very shapely bitch, full of type, lovely ottery head, well ticked harsh bl/t jacket, moved out with precision. RCC; 2 Baker’s Jaslou Juneau, b/t, could do with more ticking to her harsh coat but otherwise very pleasing for construction & balance. Liked her level topline, length of rib, shoulder placement & rear angulation, feminine, ottery head, moved out straight & true; 3 Dean’s Conundrum Don’t Tell Tula about Cedarhill. YB (7,3) 1 Watson & Kenna’s Benattivo Kissing Stone for Cynetkoy, a little stockier in shape than I prefer but well constructed. Pleasing shoulder & angulation, some good head qualities & harsh double coat; 2 Parr’s Head Over Heals at Westpoint, longer bitch, excellent topline & length of rib, straight front & head, neat ears, well shaped dark eyes. Just preferred shoulder placement of 1; 3 O’Shea’s Pipruda Tattycoram at Shaamit. PGB (8,5) 1 Jenkins’ Glebeheath Milly The Mod at Badgerbeck, good body lines, straight front, well angulated, in good double coat, moved better behind than in front; 2 Green’s Breckgreen Blue Christmas, in plentiful coat, well placed shoulders & level topline, straight front & neat feet, head quite pleasing; 3 Singh’s Beeley Bestseller. LB (13,6) 1 Fulker’s Gameway Set And Match, liked her narrow body lines, the easiest to span in this rather mixed class. Good shoulder placement, level topline, length of rib & bend of stifle, some pleasing head qualities; 2 Fraser & Butler’s Wagtail Lass via Ycart, lovely head, straight front & compact feet, good shoulders. Rather straight in stifle. In good harsh coat with thick pelt; 3 Rick’s Farnes Grace at Leysh. OB (7,2) 1 Guvercin’s Glebeath Figurine, looking her best here, beautiful outline produced by her reach of neck, well laid shoulders, level topline, length of rib, excellent hind angulation, feminine, ottery head shape, moved out accurately. CC; 2 Fraser & Butler’s Blue Tutu via Ycart, top class bitch possessing al the essential qualities required. Just preferred longer body shape of 1; 3 Hunt’s Ottaswell Obsession. |
