FOX SMOOTH NAT DOG SHOW 09 Judge: Mr Dan Ericsson (Sweden) FOX SMOOTH JUDGE NAT DOG SHOW 09 Smooth Fox Terriers I have had the pleasure of judging this breed for more than 20 years all over the world & have even enjoyed success in the ring handling Smooth Fox terriers so I had been looking forward to this appointment very much but I must admit to being disappointed. There was such a very large variation in overall make, shape & size. Some being wide & chunky with overly short legs, others very wide in front & stuffy in shoulders. Heads overall were of good length but many had large, full eyes & skulls in many cases were thick. Movement overall must also improve. Perhaps this is the result of the modern era with different bloodlines from all over the world being mixed with existing well known strains & it obviously does not always work. PD (2,1a) 1 Crouch’s Yoxella Writers Block among Oaxaca, 6 months baby puppy showing well, long clean head with very good eye, excellent legs & feet, good body, moved well, rather proud of his tail at this stage. BP. JD (3,2) 1 Savini’s Starpride Devil In Disguise, masculine dog with very good body properties, excellent legs & feet, very sound behind & he has a good tail set well. Head a little strong & rather wide in front. Good mover. PGD (5,1) Very difficult class to judge with tremendous variation in overall proportions, type, size & movement. 1 Baker’s Tuskenbraider Stormtrooper, good size & overall make & shape, excellent legs & feet, head could have more quality & also shoulders, well set tail & good topline, shows well; 2 Hannar’s Tamedale Zico, very good overall balance with excellent topline, good neck & shoulders & excellent ears. Movement lets him down; 3 Horlock’s Ranlock Portman. LD (3) Yet another class of three dogs of completely different make & shape. 1 Thornton & Bebbington’s Glendraterra Dylan Thomas, very good type with excellent outline, short back, good behind with tail set on top, excellent legs & feet, felt he could have done with more length of head & better shoulders but overall very pleasing. RCC; 2 Chalker’s Cairo Dixi Moy, masculine, lovely, long, clean head but longer in back & shorter in neck. Good legs & feet, showed well but movement restricted; 3 Marston’s Chipstead Gulliver from Classicway. OD (2) 1 Falkous’s Shillelagh San Diego of Falkmere, full measure for size but in no way coarse, long clean head, ears could be tidier, good eye, very good legs & feet, beautiful neck & shoulders, level back & good spring of ribs. Perhaps a shade long in loin. Sound quarters, moved OK. CC; 2 Heathcote’s Corricote Mastercard, well presented dog of better size but not putting all in here moving with his tail at half-mast at times, head of good length, rather full in eye. Good legs & feet, long neck. Topline not his fortune. Short back & well set tail. PB (3,2) 1 Clifford’s Migley Audrey, pleasing overall balance with excellent body, good legs & feet & she showed very well for one so young, eyes & ears need to improve & she could do with more neck, good mover. JB (2) 1 Jones’ Darlaur Deuce, lovely type & size, really beautiful head & expression, short back, good tailset. Appears to look shorter in neck than she is due to markings. Very good legs & feet, I liked her a lot but her front movement lets her down badly; 2 Darby’s Dobelands Private Dancer of Calssicway, very showy sound bitch with good body, legs & feet & excellent movement. Could do with more length of head & neck is rather stuffy. Assertive show lady presented in good order PGB (4) All of completely different type & overall balance. 1 Graffin’s Leconridge Kiss Me Kate, well constructed feminine bitch with excellent movement, fair head but rather heavy in ears & I would like her shorter in back. Showed well; 2 Laws’ Sufredon Soul Mate, very smart showy bitch of lovely type with a lot to like about her. A little fine in bone & large in ears affecting expression, topline could be more level. Well presented & she showed with style; 3 Horlock’s Ranlock Oakley. LB (6) Overall one of the best classes with some excellent bitches but again with great variation. 1 Marston’s Chipstead Gemstone, took my eye straight away & I liked her overall type & balance very much, feminine head of good length, very good eye, lovely neck blending into good shoulders, short back, appears to run up behind at times & although she showed really will her hind movement could have been more positive. Nonetheless a bitch I liked very much. RCC; 2 Hughes’ Forgevale Fourstar, good bitch showing really well, rather large in eyes affecting expression, good overall balance, presented in good order; 3 Chalker’s Rio’s Sparkling Snowflake. OB (8,1) 1 Clifford’s Migley Whiteside, very typical well made bitch of lovely size & excellent overall balance, good topline, shoulders & set on of tail, sound legs & feet. Feminine head which could have a little more quality. Strode out really well & looked particularly impressive in profile going round the ring. CC & BOB; 2 Falkous’ Am Ch Morgansonne Meris Dar-Lu of Falkmere, very feminine with lovely head & eye, good legs & feet, excellent body, movement & showmanship. On the small side & I found her rather short on the legs; 3 Lewis’ Dobelands Sonador. DAN ERICSSON (Sweden)
