SMOOTH FOX JUDGE NAT TERRIER 09

Smooth Fox Terriers

I found size varied as did proportion of length of leg to body. The Standard states that the ideal weight for the breed is between 7 & 8kg, no height stated. Similarly for a Wire 8kg, a bitch proportionally less, with a height not exceeding 15½ inches in a dog, this was my yardstick when assessing size.

Ears have improved since I last judged. I saw no evidence of any problems with eyes. I would prefer to see more spirited temperaments, ie gay, lively & active.

MPD (3,1a)

1 Tindle’s Jesuie Un Rock Star, just short of 9 months, his first outing, performed & moved well, most promising, tidy, very compact puppy of lovely type, good head, neat ears, good angulation, excellent tailset, tail of good length & well carried. His topline wasn’t helped by the heavy coat he was carrying. BP;

2 Turner’s Rotur Celtic Dream, just a baby of 6 months so giving a lot away. His size concerns me, almost full measure already. Lovely long lean head, good eye, neat ears, he also coped extremely well on his first outing.

PD (1)

1 Durham’s Ducosi Prince Charming, tidy dog, OK for size, long head, well trained, moved & showed nicely.

JD (6,1)

1 McShane’s Burnbrig Becon, lovely compact dog of good size & balance, very good head qualities, nice reach of neck, clean shoulders, short back, excellent tailset & hindquarters, moved steadily. Not in the condition that one expects from this kennel;

2 Darby’s Starpride Devil In Disguise, close decision, rather let himself down by not carrying his tail correctly nor using his ears at times. In top nick, moved extremely well if a bit of a handful for his handler. Nice bone, good for size & head qualities;

3 Harris’ Sufredon Icon.

PGD (3,1)

1 Hannar’s Tamedale Zico, very well presented, but would benefit from more exercise as in rather soft condition & movement slack. On the big side. Good bone, nice head with good size of ear;

2 Baines-Robins’ Balengro Woodland Venture, of similar type to 1 & another that would benefit from more exercise, well trained, showed well & moved OK behind.

LD (4)

1 Thornton & Bebbington’s Glendraterra Dylan Thomas, quality, compact dog, would prefer a touch more length of leg to give perfect balance. Quality head, small dark eye, good ears, nice length of neck, correct shoulders, cracking tailset & excellent rear angulation, in hard condition, but his coat is not at its best, rather stubborn on the move;

2 Chalker’s Crio Dixi Moy, nice type & size, long lean head, very well prepared. Lost out on movement;

3 Turner’s Rotur Celtic Silver.

OD (5)

1 Thornton’s Glendraterra Sunset Strip, my star of the day, quality dog in top condition, sound on the move & portraying the correct animation of a Smooth, yet totally at one with his handler, lovely size, correct maturity, long lean quality head, good reach of neck into good shoulders, excellent rear angulation & tailset, very well balanced dog. CC & BOB;

2 Law’s Ch Sufredon Bandleader, liked this one for type & soundness, another one with many good attributes as is reflected by his title. Coat was not in condition of 1 & he appeared rather bored with proceedings. RCC;

3 Julian’s Vertway Scots Guard at Lanyons.

MPB (3,1)

1 Tindle’s Jesuie Mystic Really compact bitch, who needs too grow on a bit, but most promising. Short level back, good tailset, showed well, a change of coat will make a difference;

2 Marley’s Rotur Celtic Ghoste at Arguside, such a pretty headed puppy with complimentary ears, giving away 3 months to 1.

PB (2)

1 Harrison’s Adohr Tutie Fruitie, smallish bitch with neat head & ears, maturing in body;

2 Harris’ Tamarwahy Toyha, very light in body & not in the condition of 1, seemingly she has just been in season. Good length of head.

JB (5)

Three really nice bitches, one handler was not conforming to his dog’s wishes!

1 Thornton & Bebbington’s Glendraterra Danzatrice, quality bitch, more mature & firmer in body than 2, very good conformation, short backed, lovely type, moved well when settled, good head;

2 Jones’ Darlaur Deuce, another quality one, just into junior, maturing well but still a little soft in body & slack in front movement, given another 6 months, most promising, sweet head & very good ears, excellent presentation, moved & showed very well;

3 Darby’s Dobelands Private Dancer with Classicway.

NB (4,2)

1 Marston’s Chipstead Dynamite, rather old-fashioned looking, moved OK, well handled;

2 Harrison’s Adohr Treasure Trove, very gangly stage & not moving at all well.

PGB (3,2)

1 C Dynamite.

LB (10)

Quality class, best of the day, although type, size, maturity & presentation varied.

1 Hannar’s Tamedale Yasmin, quality bitch, in excellent trim & fantastic condition, correct maturity, size & balance, has a long lean head, good eye, ears & expression, good angulation, could be shorter coupled, moved well behind, she is not perfect but I didn’t find one that was. CC;

2 Marston’s Chipstead Gemstone, bigger than I prefer, but a very good bitch all round, quality head, lovely eye & ears, good balance, well presented in good condition, showing well. Not moving good behind;

3 Law’s Sufredon Bandanna at Canterway.

OB (6,1)

1 Hall’s Migley Domino with Gosel, liked this one for type & quality, really well made, level topline, long lean head with ears of good size & well placed, eye could be smaller & darker, nice for bone & good feet. A little tall & not quite the balance of 1. Both dog & handler seemed to lose interest in the challenge. RCC;

2 Broom’s Ch Chipstead Monsoon with Roxway, excellent bitch & most worthy of her crown. Not the maturity of one, given her age, time is on her side. Lovely head qualities & expression;

3 Westwood’s Dodeland’s Sonador. Breeder Thornton & Bebbington, a quality group. Third in group.
