LAKELAND JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 10

Lakeland Terriers

I was disappointed in the quality & condition of some exhibits making it difficult to judge to type. Unusually, the dogs were superior to the bitches. Mouths were generally excellent as was coat texture. Several otherwise good dogs lacked animation & ring presence.

MPD (1) & PD (1)

1 Johnston’s Louieville Red Sky, very raw but promising. Nice size, excellent coat, nice head proportions, dark eye, good mouth, flat skull. Would like more lift to his ears to give more expression. Clean front, good legs & feet, good length of neck & nice shoulder placement, very good hindquarters & angulation, moved well. Just needs time to build confidence & attitude.

JD (2)

1 Mason’s Rafingham Rifleman, lovely type, in the best of condition, pleasing head of good proportions, dark eye, correct bite, strong muzzle, nicely placed ears, good shoulders, topline & set-on, nicely let down hocks. Would like a touch more length in the leg to give a better overall balance. Moved OK, just needs more confidence & animation;

2 Leadbeater & Kerrigan’s Leadstaffs Sensation, nice type, everything in the right place & nicely proportioned. Lacks body condition & confidence on the move.

PGD (2)

1 Averis’ Saredon The Untouchable, like this dog very much, lovely proportions & balance, has elegance with substance, typical head & alert expression, nice length of neck running into well placed shoulder & level topline, good set on & angulation. Giddy on the move but sound. Good body condition but no coat today which probably cost him a higher placing;

2 Jones’ Glentops Blaze A Trail to Mikeland, nice body proportions & balance, good shoulders, short back, good set on, harsh coat of good colour. Would prefer a cleaner head. Moved OK.

LD (2,1)

1 Johnston’s Oregill Hotshot, typical head, flat skull, dark eye & pigmentation giving hard bitten expression, ears in the right place but not using them to advantage. Good front from all angles, very deep chest, nice shoulder & topline, plenty behind the tail, stallion dog with substance, good overall balance, best of jackets, sharper presentation would improve the picture. Moved OK in front, bit erratic behind.

OD (5)

1 Manser & English’s Nujax My Way, scored here on ring presence, movement, body condition & overall balance, lovely type, good head properties, strong muzzle & well placed ears giving correct expression, clean front, shoulders in the right place but to be critical can lean into them at times. Nicely coupled quarters, good set on & moved with easy action & drive. CC & BOB, shortlisted in the group;

2 Vickers, Punter, Browbank & Clark’s Eskwyre Back In The Red, eyecatching dog with great character & ring presence, lovely make & shape, in excellent coat & condition, beautiful in profile. I would prefer him to have a little more size & substance for a male. Clean well proportioned head. Ears a tad small. Long neck flowing into good shoulders & topline, great quarters, good tailset & carriage, moved with purpose & covered the ground well. Hind action not his forte. RCC;

3 Johnston’s Ch Louieville Red Prince.

MPB (2)

1 Johnston’s Louieville Priceless, promising pup of nice size & proportions, pretty head, well placed ears folding nicely just above the skull, good length of neck into well laid back shoulders, great set on & carriage giving good driving action on the move, harsh jacket. Needs time;

2 Browbank & Clary’s Eskwyre Shock In A Frock, well structured cobby type, very mature for age, in beautiful coat & condition, head in proportion. Not as clean as 1 & not using ears. Great set-on & carriage but not driving in hind action.

PB (3)

1 Johnston’s Oregill In The Buff, nicely maturing well grown pup, loved her head & expression, dark well set eye, strong muzzle, good pigment, well placed ears used to advantage, good neck & shoulders, tailset OK. Topline needs to strengthen. Nice bend of stifle & moved with drive, best of coat texture. With sharper presentation should do well. BP;

2 L Priceless;

3 Needham’s Rayfos Gold Shadow at Needex.

JB (3,1)

1 Davani’s Kebulak Swing On A Star, very much a Lakeland, would like to see her carry a little less weight but sound as a bell & moved well. Nicely proportioned in head & body, good dark eye, well used ears, in excellent coat & condition;

2 Cartwright’s Saredon Midnight In Blue, same sire as 1 & similar qualities but I would like to see this one carry a little more body & condition. Totally in tune with handler & full of animation & ring presence. Moved well.

PGB (5)

1 McCallum’s Glentops Butterfly Kisses, nice type. Head could be cleaner & forequarters more refined to give more style but everything fits to give overall balance. Strong quarters but didn’t use them to advantage on the move. Nice coat & colour;

2 Jones’ Saredon Unveiled to Mikeland, typy bitch, lacking in coat & condition. Decent head. Ears a bit erratic. Clean front, long neck, short back, good tailset. Tendency to overstretch behind. Moved OK;

3 Whitehead & Munroe’s Stanstead Try This One.

LB (6,1)

1 Stott’s Brocolitia Copyright, top of the scale in size but sound, elegant & beautifully proportioned, good head properties, nice eye, strong muzzle. Would prefer smaller ears with better lift for sharper expression. Lovely shoulder, topline & tailset, good coat texture, nicely presented, moved effortlessly & with purpose. RCC;

2 Connell’s Sonorra Molly Malone, nice size, in good coat & condition, pretty head. Ears wouldn’t settle. Very long neck, short back, well angulated quarters, moved with style. Didn’t stride out to cover the ground;

3 McCallum’s Glentops Bubble And Squeak.

OB (5,2)

1 Vickers, Punter & Clark’s Fire Witch Van Foliny Home, elegant, pretty bitch in good coat & condition. Could stand more body weight to advantage. Feminine head of nice proportions, excels in neck & shoulder, good set-on & carriage, nicely coupled hindquarters, good angulation. Bit ‘busy’ on the move but true. CC;

2 Davani’s Nujax Under The Influence at Kebulak, lovely type but too heavy. Good coat & condition, well presented, pleasing head & expression. Shoulder placement OK but tends to lean through giving a ‘bossy’ front. Excellent hindquarters, angulation & well let down hocks, moved well;

3 Burgoyne’s Lady Jelliroll Mercedes.
