LAKELAND TERRIER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
Lach Dennis Village Hall 18 APRIL 2009

It was a great honour to be asked to judge this show. Thank you to the committee for making me feel so welcome and the catering staff for an excellent lunch. Thanks to my stewards who did a great job.

Size needs to be watched, several exhibits were on the big side. Also, although all exhibits had a correct scissor bite, I was surprised to see that several had rather small crooked teeth.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (2)
1. Vickers and Punter’s ESKWYRE BACK IN THE RED. Good head but ears a bit too high set for me. Excellent neck and shoulders, short back. Turns hocks in on the move but showed well for one so young. Immaculately presented in very good coat.
2. Leadbetter and Kerrigan’s LEADSTAFFS SENSATION. Another promising pup. Similar type to above and better in hind action. Just needs to settle on the move and a new jacket would improve the overall picture.

PUPPY DOG (3, 1 absent)
1. Maughan’s BROCOLITIA RED COPPER. Nice size, true lakie type head with correct earset, wicked expression. Great neck, well laid back shoulders, short back with good set on. Good angulation both ends. True mover in both directions. Just needs to mature in body. Should have a bright future. RCC, RBIS, BPIS
2. Greenway’s RAFOS MICKEY ROONEY. Well proportioned head and good earset. Good front and rear, slightly shorter in neck than above, moved OK

JUNIOR DOG (2, 1 absent)
1. Maughan’s BROCOLITIA OH SO RECKLESS. Nice head, pleasing topline, In good coat. Refused to move.

NOVICE DOG (No entries)

POST GRADUATE DOG (2, 2 absent)

LIMIT DOG (3, 2 absent)
1. Kenyon’s WYNDAM BLACKJACK. Masculine dog, good length of neck. Excellent coat and condition, moves a bit close behind.

OPEN DOG (6, 3 absent)
1. Connel and Callon’s SONORRA SPELLCASTER. Typical lakeland, nice size, correct head proportions, well set ears, pleasing topline and good set on, in super coat and body condition. Super showman, moved true both ways with enthusiasm. CC and BIS
2. Watkin’s EBROOKS HICKORY AT ZARASLAKE. Pleasing type, excellent length of neck, short back. Just too big all round for me. Very strong hindquarters, moved wide in front.
3. Greenways’s RAFOS BUCKSKIN. True lakie type but again on the big side. Could do with a better set on, moved true both ways.

BEGINNERS DOG OR BITCH (1)
1. Reynolds and Ciani’s OREGILL CALENDAR GIRL. Nice allround type. Needs ringtraining and more attention to trimming.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (2)
1. Greenway’s RAFOS HAWK LEAF. Good head and well set ears, typical lakie expression, well balanced outline, level topline, in very good coat, moved and showed well.
2. Maughan’s BROCOLITIA VISION IN RED. Excellent neck and shoulders. Needs more body, rather reluctant to move.

PUPPY BITCH (3)
1. Whitehead’s STANSTEAD TRY THIS ONE. Typical lakie, correct expression, nice head and ears, good length of neck, well laid back shoulders, good front, in good coat, well handled, just needs to strengthen in hind action.
2. Davani’s NUJAX UNDER THE INFLUENCE AT KEBULAK. Cobby type, short back, a bit upright in shoulder and wide in front, good body condition, needs a new coat, moved OK.
3. Maughan’s BROCOLITIA CARBON COPY. Nice type though short of coat and lacking furnishings particularly on muzzle. Hope she doesn’t grow any more.

JUNIOR BITCH (2, 1 absent)
1. Johnston’s OREGILL BLACK PEARL. Correct head and earset, good neck, short back, tail on top, strong hindquarters. Super jet black colour, needs to settle on the move. Could be a shade bigger.

NOVICE BITCH (1)
1. OREGILL CALENDAR GIRL

POST GRADUATE BITCH (5, 2 absent)
1. Fletcher and Callow’s NUJAX RUBY SLIPPERS. Excellent neck and shoulders, good front, short back with tail on top giving very good profile, well presented, moved true both ways, ears need to settle.
2. Connell’s SONORRA BEWITCHED. Nice size, good head and expression, slightly longer in back than 1, well presented, needs to strengthen in hind action.
3. Benyon’s SONORRA MAGIC MOMENT. Rather short in leg. Movement difficult to assess but kept everyone amused with her antics. Loads of personality.

LIMIT BITCH
1. Ashe’s EBROOKS RUBY. True lakie type head and correct ear placement. Good length of neck, good angulation front and back, short back, tail on top, strong hind quarters, moves true with drive. Less coat would improve her topline.
2. Whitehead’s STANSTEAD TAKE A CHANCE ON ME. Nice overall type but would like more of her allround, rather narrow in front, pleasing outline, excellent presentation, moves true on a loose lead, super showgirl.
3. Kenyon’s WYNDAM WITCHCRAFT. Another nice bitch, could have a higher tailset and hind action not as positive as 1 and 2. Well presented.

OPEN BITCH
1. Greenway’s CH RAFOS NIGHT SHADOW. True lakie head and expression, good front and shoulders, level topline, mature in body with strong well angulated hindquarters. Very sound both ways, moves with drive and enthusiasm. Great temperament, never stopped showing. CC
2. Averis and Scawthorn’s CH SAREDON FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. Excellent neck, short back and good tailset. Would like more body, looks immature, not helped by lack of coat. Didn’t put much effort in on the move. RCC.
3. Davani’s BLACKDALE DESERT BLOOM AT KEBULAK. Nice allround type, pleasing outline, shown in good order. Could be more feminine and show more enthusiasm. Moved OK.
