STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 09

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I stepped in at short notice to judge Zane Smith’s entry. I must thank most sincerely the exhibitors who accepted my decisions with good grace.

The ring was far from ideal, potholes & tent poles made assessing movement difficult but we all got on with it & I have to say the higher classes were full of top class specimens of the breed & decisions were very close.

MPD (4,1a)

1 Atherton & Kemp’s Javawolf Midnight Onion, white, promising head set off by dark round eyes, topline OK, good legs & feet, well presented;

2 Folwell & Morris’ Rowellstaff Mr Ferguson, close coupled fawn, promising youngster of good type, moved & handled well;

3 Metcalf’s Alport Locknload.

PD (6)

1 Summerfield’s Canakey Mad About The Boy, deep red, scored heavily on head, depth, stop & cheeks, good bite & underjaw, good rib for a youngster, good bone & well constructed backend, moved OK. BP;

2 Dewar’s Mintmar Just The Man, good head, stop, muzzle & bite, short backed, excellent balance throughout, plenty of time on his side;

3 Hart’s Albermarbull Blue Progeny.

JD (9,2)

1 Birbeck’s Janikcastco Jumpin Jak Flash, well boned red, deep through skull, powerful muzzle, good bite, keen expression, well sprung rib & tuck, well muscled throughout, moved & handled well, scored over 2 on maturity;

2 Beaufoy’s Wyrefare The Governor, fawn, in hard condition, excellent construction from head to tail, very promising young dog who should improve with age. When he reaches maturity I believe he could trouble the best;

3 Wall’s Goldwyn Our Kid.

YD (10)

1 Pickett’s Valglo Singin’ The Blues, here is a rarity, a blue & a classy one at that. Strong in head, powerful muzzle, good bite, superb outline, good bone, rib & tuck, good pigmentation, tight feet, well let down at hock, moved well on a tricky surface;

2 Swift’s Longdrive Manhatton, bl/br, good headed young dog. A shade longer cast than 1 but plenty of good points. Good bone & spring of rib, tight feet, good bend of stifle, moved & handled well;

3 Dowse’s Rotherstaff Black Tie.

GD (4,1)

1 Membury’s Mitzstaff No Mercy, sleek & fit bl/br, typical head, correct scissor bite, good muscletone, good view over the top, straight front, moved & handled well;

2 Hunting’s Herodotus A Friend In Me by Chapmeek, well balanced f/w, powerful head, good stop, short coupled, well ribbed, moved OK. Some hard roadwork could improve pasterns; 3 Wedgwood’s Pottersway Crafty Potter.

PGD (13)

1 Graham’s Mai Rebel, upstanding f/w, deep through head, dark round eyes, dark eye rims, good bite, neat ears, strong neck, well laid shoulders, super topline, good construction throughout, classy dog;

2 McTrusty’s Buddastaff Red Rogue, quality red, in good coat, neat outline, typical head & expression, well muscled, moved well, well handled;

3 Braggins’ Sans Pariel’s The Democrat.

LD (24,2)

1 Lawrenson’s Crossguns Tom Jones, eyecatching bl/br, typical head, well pronounced cheek bumps, strong muzzle & underjaw, good bite, neat ears, dark round eyes that gave him a look which demanded attention, add to this well sprung ribs under a level topline, good straight front without looseness, well constructed rearend, good tuck-up & tail of correct length, moved with drive & confidence, great balance, alert, up on his toes & worthy of top honours. CC & BOB;

2 Peacock’s Dringshaw Stoner, fawn of quality, balanced throughout, well proportioned skull, good bite, neat ears, well boned, short backed, excellent mover, quality dog. A bit more tuck would improve the view over the top but still good enough to hold his own at this level;

3 Dewar’s Euphemia Drummer Boy.

OD (8)

1 Mace & Davies’ Ch Stormbull Solo, very impressive dog, cracking head, darkest of eyes, neat ears, strong bite, powerful neck, short back, well sprung ribs, good legs & feet, moved with confidence & superbly handled. Worthy ch & fully deserved RCC against some quality opposition;

2 Stanway’s Ch Waystaff Strikes Back, classy pied who could not be overlooked, superb balance throughout, nothing overdone, nothing lacking, has all the essentials required by the Standard & expertly handled. On another day could have gone all the way but there is a fine line at this level, nevertheless a superb example of the breed;

3 Waltham’s Dringshaw Valentino.

MPB (3,1)

1 McClements’ Jolihem Podgy Pogle, fawn b/m, promising head, correct scissor bite, good eye, sufficient bone, moved OK. Slightly more mature all round than

2 Edwards’ Rowellstaff Emily Edwards, nice type b/br, just a baby but plenty of time on her side. Handler did well but as with all the minor puppies it must be quite daunting to start at this level. Just needs to build up some confidence. Nice temperament.

PB (13,4)

1 Carter’s Seastaff Polar Star, white bitch of promise, neat head, good expression, nice outline to build upon, mouth OK, rose ears, level topline. Lost out to puppy dog on maturity. Like to see her in 12 months;

2 Mead’s Chapmeek All That Bling, cobby w/br, decent head, good bite, well boned, straight front, short backed, moved & handled well. A young bitch of promise;

3 Thomas’ Samtan She’s All That.

JB (12,1)

1 Stone’s Ashbull Black Magic, well balanced b/br of quality, good head, typical feminine expression, correct bite, neat ears, had that essential balance & presence to win top spot in a competitive class;

2 Chandler’s Gwynford Celtic Mist, unfortunate to meet 1 but plenty to admire. Well proportioned head, good bite & bone, well muscled. Ears not as neat as 1, not quite the stature;

3 Baker, Ventham & Booth’s Ramblestaff Miss Demeanour.

YB (5)

1 Slattery’s Jacknife Shady Lady, brindle, up on her toes, keen expression, good head but not exaggerated, scissor bite, used ears well, cobby, close coupled, stood foursquare displaying excellent balance;

2 G Celtic Mist;

3 Burley’s Zakstaff Midnight Mystic at Jaxtilbur.

GB (2)

1 Welsh’s Valglo Matilda for Staffwize, typy b/br, head of good proportion enhanced by dark round eyes, excellent side view, level topline, well laid shoulders, nice tuck, good bend of stifle;

2 Gregory’s Willowstaff Shades Of Red, tiger brindle, similar comments to 1, good all round exhibit, strong but feminine.

PGB (10,1)

1 Manito’s Rotherstaff Indian Ink at Dynastaff, b/br, good head, deep through, well developed cheek bumps, neat rose ears, correct bite, a desirable expression typical of the breed, good spring of rib, well boned, good balance & movement;

2 Funnel’s Kewaunee Pocahontas for Powerpack, lively b/br, superb balance, classic lines when viewed from any angle, has all the essentials. Would not settle. Bags of promise;

3 Membury’s Mitzstaff Touch Of Clazz.

LB (15,3)

1 Baxter’s Zakstaff Black Velvet, b/br, bang on Standard, took my eye immediately, shapely head, all in order, coal black eyes that gave her a wicked expression, stood foursquare, superb balance, tight fitting coat, level topline, short back, good tuck, well let down at hock, no coarseness, moved with confidence. CC;

2 Simpson’s Briganah Black Orchid, this b/br was the second of a trio of top class bitches. Superbly crafted skull, strong but feminine, dark eyes set correctly, well defined cheek bumps, straight front, no looseness, neck & shoulders of the best, good spring of rib, looked classy standing & on the move, can match the best;

3 Jackson & Whitehouse’s Bourtie Wot A Steal.

OB (12,2)

1 Plant’s Ch Subaron Sharrann, quality b/br, strong head, scissor bite, dark eye, well developed ribcage, well boned, short backed, close coupled, good view from the front or for that matter from any angle, had class & a ring presence needed to stand out in a class of this quality. Worthy ch but had to settle for the RCC;

2 Hopkin’s Ch Trufflestaff Monifa Kanika, excellent example of the breed, b/br who could not be overlooked, in superb condition, excellent blend of bull & terrier, has all the essentials topped by a wicked expression, movement & handling both good;

3 Wall’s Ch Jupiter’s Destiny.
