STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE LEEDS 09

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I was extremely pleased with the majority of exhibits & bucking a trend somewhat thought that the dogs on the whole were better than the bitches. The dog line-up, I thought, was particularly strong & would have had no qualms giving the top honours to another four of them, quite apart from the top two, had the others not been there.

There were others that were pipped to a final placing but would grace any line-up & the same goes for them. Plenty of unexaggerated muscular agile Staffordshire Bull Terriers with the construction & ability to move freely & economically.

MPD (4)

Three nice puppies & still very much puppylike in appearance.

1 Essex’s Javawolf Mighty Mouse, predominately white puppy dog with brindle markings to head, correct bite & good stop without being overdone black nose, good head to body proportions, well pigmented pup, drops into place, correct angulation, gets his feet where they should be, moved well;

2 Land’s Bullhawk Ben De Lisi, b/br, good head shape, not too much stop & a dark eye. Still very much a baby & being a bit rangier than 1 has to tighten up a little & hopefully this will come as he grows older. Moved reasonably well;

3 Folwell & Morris’ Rowellstaff Mr Ferguson.

PD (6,1a)

1 Pearce’s Bullhawk Code Black, well muscled up b/br with near ears & a dark eye complementing his correct expression, clean ample head of correct proportions, nothing overdone, straight in the forequarters, fit with good spring of rib light in the loin, stands well on four good legs, level topline that is retained on the move which appears effortless to him, very nice puppy;

2 Rhodes’ Willowstaff Black Marauder, not as far on as 1. A bit lighter in the quarters & still appearing a shade leggy. Nice dog & much the same applies, good purposeful length of muzzle, ample stop. Stands a bit roached when posed but less so when relaxed during the class. Moved with a good purposeful stride;

3 B Ben De Lisi at W.

JD (11,1)

1 Powell’s Cwmcalon Son Of The Lord, impressive b/br dog whose head balances well to body, reasonably dark eyes well placed & neat ears give good expression, ample stop with good length to his muzzle, straight in the forequarters, nice spring rib without being overdone, light in the loin, stands well up on his pasterns, good correct rear angulation & moved very well. Both his parents will have passed that on to him in spades;

2 Beaufoy’s Wyrefare The Governor, unexaggerated, red dog with a flash of white, good head proportions which balance to his body, purposeful muzzle, typical expression topped off by neat rose ears, straight & strong in the forequarters, brisket to elbow, nice tight coat, very much all written of 1 is applicable here, reasonable level of fitness, drops into correct positions & moved well;

3 Dolphin’s Alport Tornado.

YD (5)

1 Tittley & Bosanko’s Willowstaff New Edition at Garwstaff, typy brindle dog, neat ears & dark well placed eyes, lovely expression, ample stop, good length of strong deep muzzle housing a good bite, head balanced to body, up on his pasterns & straight in the forearm, brisket to elbow with correct rear angulation, good level of fitness & reasonable spring of rib but a shade more would enhance definition, light in the loin. Alan Mitchell often tells a story about a dog of old that gave the appearance that he could pluck swallows out of the sky. This lad has that sort of agile effortless movement;

2 Johnson & Andrews’ Tillcar Renegade Flame, brindle dog & a bigger lad all round that 1 but that is not to say that he is overdone in any way. Strong muzzle, dark eye, straight in the forequarters, brisket to elbow & good angulation all round. Would prefer him lighter in the loin giving more body definition. Moved well;

3 Antonio’s Antoniostaff Warlord.

UGD (1)

1 Hemstock’s Jolihem Hellboy, red dog, blackish mask with white markings, good skull proportions with strong muzzle of decent length, good bite, dark eye & typical expression, stood well, straight & strong on the front, forearm slightly turns out at pastern, brisket slightly below elbow & well ribbed back with a reasonable level of fitness. Would prefer a more economical movement.

GD (3,1)

1 Antonio’s Antoniostaff Warlord, b/br dog who was lacking a bit of sparkle. Had an argument with his brother apparently & that may account for it. Dark eye ample stop, good head proportions that in turn balances to body, drops into correct position at front, brisket to elbow. Reasonable spring of rib but I’d prefer a shade more definition in body. When naturally stood he places his pads a shade back from my ideal. Level topline stood & moving;

2 Houwaart’s Old Crossguns Mac Na Diabhall, b/br dog whose head balances to body without anything being overdone. Dark eye not quite as tight in the lip as 1. More spring of rib than 1, brisket to elbow, drops into position well at the front & as with 1 greater body definition would enhance.

PGD (10,1)

1 Muir & Quinn’s Sherdrew Born To Perform at Maratana, Standard b/br, nothing overdone on this dog at all, balanced Standard dog, correct head shape with reasonably neat ears & dark eye, strong muzzle, ample stop, tight in the lip & good bite, drops into himself at front, decent width across the chest, brisket to elbow, level topline, good angulation, well ribbed back & is light in the loin, muscular hindquarters moved well, smart dog;

2 King’s Staffwize Split Decision, b/br, stronger headed dog than 1. Dark eye neat in the ear & prominent cheek bumps, decent length of muzzle balanced to skull, brisket to just below elbow up on his pasterns, neck flowed smoothly into topline, well ribbed back, light in the loin & tucked up, good angulation, gets his feet correctly positioned, nice dog;

3 Rastall & Durham’s Merimina Ahead In Line.

LD (17,6)

An excellent class thoroughly enjoyed it. I have given the top five a namecall. All good dogs in my opinion.

1 Powell’s Foxstaff Positive Magic, excellent b/br who is balanced from nose to tail, up on the leg, nice head with nothing overdone whatsoever, ample stop, neat ears, strong muzzle housing a good bite, prominent cheek bumps, his neck arches from head & flows smoothly through his withers & topline, brisket slightly below elbow, correct angulation, lift & drop either & he falls into place, light in the loin, reasonably tight coat, rearquarters well muscled up with seconds thighs, well developed. RCC;

2 Watkin’s Veklora Flaming Arrow, another very good dark brindle dog. Not the head definitions of 1 but certainly not to be considered plain. Well angulated, good spring of rib & light in the loin providing a well defined body. Much of what was said above can be applied here but not as conditioned as 1. Got himself up & down the ring effortlessly;

3 Barden & Robinson’s Rotherstaff Max Graff.

OD (14,2)

1 Clements’ Sajojistaff Back In Black, quality b/br dog with a tremendous presence about him, excellent head shape & proportions, width with depth, typical expression, dark eye & neat ears, strong purposeful muzzle of good length & strength housing big strong teeth, good bite, lift him at the front & he drops straight & strong in the forearm, correct shoulder placement, neck flows smoothly into well muscled withers & on into topline, brisket to elbow, good spring of rib carried well back, correctly angulated & well muscled up in the hindquarters, moved extremely well. CC, his third, great to see him gain another just two days later;

2 Wiggins & Watkin’s Kewaunee Peta Nocona, b/br dog, dark round eye, well placed looking forward, good length of muzzle well proportioned to skull, reasonably neat ear & brisket to elbow, good body proportions, moved very well;

3 Stanway’s Ch Waystaff Strikes Back.

MPB (10,1)

1 Wandless & Leadbitter’s Doleze Classy Copper, I really liked this brindle bitch with a lovely typical expression enhanced by her dark eyes & neat ears, tight in the lip, straight in the forequarters, neck flows well into topline, good angulation gets her feet where they should be & she moved very well. BP;

2 Stanway & McCulloch’s Waystaff Dutch Pearl, not as far down the maturity line as 1. Pretty little white bitch with a very nice expression & all that entails, black nose & dark eyes, clean lines, good angulations up on the leg, straight front, decent tuck-up & light in the loin giving nice body definition at this age;

3 Pearce’s Bullhawk Divalicious.

PB (6,1)

1 Smith, Cox & Wagstaff’s Willowstaff Barbed Tongue, liked this bitch a good deal, balanced b/br, typical expression, dark eye, nice length of muzzle, skull deepens towards back of skull, straight in the forearm, brisket to elbow, well tucked up correctly angulated in her hindquarters, looking & moving well for her age;

2 Smart’s Arnhem Ur Avin It, VHC in MPB. Fawn bitch with black muzzle & good head proportions, straight in front brisket, to just below elbow, level topline, decent spring of rib, good rear angulation, compact neat little bitch who moved well;

3 Payton’s Sunnystone Partygirl at Tonpay.

JB (10,1)

1 Jones’ Lackyle Duilliog Daracha, typical Standard b/br bitch, tight & clean about the muzzle, dark eye, ample stop, good head shape & proportions, straight in the forearm with ample bone, good angulation, gets her feet beneath her, well ribbed back, brisket to elbow, moved well. A shade more cut would enhance. Moved well;

2 Norton’s Mintmar Look Again for Tikkurilan, brindle bitch, again a typical Standard bitch. A shade lighter in the eye than 1 but that reflective of her being a lighter brindle. Good definition to head & expression with nothing overdone & in balance with body, straight forequarters with lift brisket to elbow. A good few degrees up the fitness gauge would benefit her. Moved well;

3 Saunt’s Cragails Braw Hizzie.

YB (7,1)

1 Kerrigan & Leadbeater’s Leadstaff’s India, brindle bitch in admirably good condition, well defined head shape. Wouldn’t want anymore stop on her though. Dark round eye, neat ear, impressively strong underjaw, tidy clean lips, ample bone in her forequarters, well sprung ribcage of decent length, good tuck-up & light in the loin, good angulation, gets her feet where they should be, moved well;

2 Turner’s Trawden Snowball, skewbald bitch of a different type to 1. Typical with very nice expression, good cheek bumps, head depends as it moves back, good ears. Could be a shade tidier tight in the lip. Handler tends to spread the front & sketch the back, but she stands & supports well at both ends when she is dropped naturally. Could definitely do with a greater degree of fitness & would have made this decision a lot harder to come to had she had it;

3 Wild’s Latin Dancer.

UGB (3,1)

1 Jackson’s Roughnecks Red Rose, red bitch with a head of good proportions, decent expression with reasonably dark eye. Her ears could be a tad tidier. Stands straight in the forequarters with a decent spring of rib & reasonable levels of fitness give her body definition, ample of bone, good rear angulation gets all her pads where they should be;

2 Arthur’s Ryanthan Somme Princess, brindle bitch, heavier type of bitch with more definition in head. Nice expression dark eye, reasonably tight in the lip, straight in the forequarters. Preferred the rear angulation of 1. Decent body definition & levels of fitness.

GB (6)

1 Bouter’s Old Cross Guns Dearbhaile Diabhal, Standard b/br strong headed bitch but not overdone, strong muzzle & underjaw, head deepens back, reasonably clean in the lips, dark eye, ample stop, muzzle balances to skull, straight forequarters, brisket to just below elbow & she gets her feet where they should be, decent angulation at the rear, level topline. Would prefer more body definition. Won this class with a bit to spare;

2 Gregory’s Willowstaff Shades Of Red, brindle bitch, heavier in type that 1. Decent expression, eyes dark in relation to her colour. Less clean in the lip than 1. Level topline, ears OK, brisket to elbow. Reasonable body definition fitness could be improved upon;

3 Essex Rowellstaff Top Hatter.

PGB (18,3)

1 Turner’s Tidestaff Firecracker, impressive Standard balanced mahogany brindle bitch with nothing overdone whatsoever, prominent cheek bumps, good length of muzzle in proportions to skull & tight in the lip, ample stop, dark eye for her colour, head muscular, straight in the forequarters, brisket a tad below elbow, neck flows well into withers & topline, gets her feet where they should be due to good rear angulation, moved well, full of attributes & a shade more condition would enhance greatly; Strongly considered for RCC;

2 Essex’s Javawolf Mogwai, very attractive red bitch, impressively strong muzzle, great depth with impressive bite, moved reasonably well, good angulation, gets her feet positioned correctly, reasonably good body definition;

3 Augustynowicz’s Ramblestaff On The Rampage for Toroloco.

LB (20,3)

1 Johnston & Brown’s Tusslestaff Little Cracker, b/br strongly headed bitch with a bit more head definition than is my ideal but she is full of type, strong in the underjaw & tight in the lip, reasonably dark in the eye, head splits well with good muscle, straight in the forequarters & up on her pasterns, balanced with lift, brisket to elbow well tucked up & light in the loin, good spring of rib, good rear angulation & short close coat, angulation provides great support, you could push down on that front & back structure all day, good body definitions, well muscled, moved efficiently. RCC;

2 Morgan & Morgan-Pastor’s Ruby Rose Duchess at Biggleswick, typical & attractive bitch, the head of this bitch is closer to my ideal than 1. Tight & clean head with good length of muzzle, ample stop, dark eye for her colour, good proportions, neat ears, cheek bumps, head deepens as it moves back, arched neck flows well into topline, well ribbed back brisket to elbow, gets her feet where they should be, good body proportions & definition light in the loin & good tuck-up, straight in the forequarters, excellent conformation but my preference would be for a shade more strength of bone in her forequarters;

3 Pearce’s Inkastaff Midnight Chaos at Bullhawk.

OB (9,2)

1 Folwell & Morriss’ Rowellstaff Miss Prada, typical red bitch of quality, ticking most of the boxes for what I was looking for, her head has balance & definition, an ample stop, distinct but not overdone, strong clean muzzle with depth & a good bite, head deepens under her ears, lovely feminine expression with eyes looking straight forward, straight in the forequarters, neck flows well into topline which was correct both standing & in motion, brisket to just below elbow with spring of rib, very acceptable body definition, good angulation provides strong columns of support & she moved effortlessly. CC & BOB, gained her third CC two days later;

2 Ch Tikkurilan Ticka Taboo, brindle bitch with nothing overdone about her at all, pleasing head proportions that are balanced to her body, strong muzzle of good length, ample stop, neat ears & well positioned eyes, provide typical feminine expression, skull had width & depth, neck flows well into shoulders brisket a shade below elbow, strong correct quarters, good spring of rib & moved well. Thought that she was lacking a bit of condition;

3 Bouter’s Dutch/Bel/Lux Ch Old Crossguns I Salute You.
