Australian Terriers

What a pleasure to see so many young Aussies coming through the classes. They will be the future of the breed and there is much to like about them. Many still need time to get to their full potential. Others lacked of experience, which gave their handlers a challenge in the ring which seemed to be full of smells, clanks from metal covers below the carpet and the other distractions and may well have affected performances. In many of the classes the dogs were very evenly matched which does show a level of consistency in the breed.

1. McCourt & Eardley’s Silhill Chip Off The Old Rock CC and Best Puppy. Liked this youngsters typical Aussie expression and character. Combined this with the strength of the muzzle, big teeth, well proportioned head and the flat skull. Correct amount of bone for size, well bodied and had depth of chest, level topline. Correct coat texture. Good neck and shoulders. Carried his tail well and moved strongly and with showmanship. He is still young and in the challenge for BOB was not as settled as the bitch CC winner.

1. Smalls Bethane Conna Sir. Liked the masculine head on this dog. Powerful muzzle with large teeth. Black nose, used his ears well. Correct amount of bone for the size. Outline showed correct length, level topline and carried his tail well. Good neck and coat of the correct texture. Well sprung ribs and had sufficient substance. In the challenge lost out, as his movement was not as strong as the winners.

1 Skelton’s Millvalley Scotch Mist. RCC Liked the masculine head, with good pigmentation and dark eyes, correct head proportions and there was the leather forming. Big teeth and punishing jaws. Right amount of bone and level topline and the length of back. Well sprung ribs and had excellent muscle tone. Good coat texture. Rich tan. In the challenge,he had a little less drive in the rear than the winner.

2 Cabourns Spitewinter Cosmos at Blujon. Smart dog with good neck, shoulders and level topline, Showed and handled well. Well proportioned head, flat skull and correct earset. Silky topknot, but would have liked more of it to create the Aussie look. Well sprung ribs, good depth of chest. Just lost to winner as xpression was less hardbitten and tail set was not as good as winner.

1 Jones’ Wyeafon Echo. Still needs time to mature, but when she settled, she had a well proportioned outline, a feminine head with nice eyes, pigmentation and neat ears held correctly. She has a good neck and length of back, Good coat. In best puppy challenge lost out on maturity and showmanship.

2, Freer, Tyrrell and Fosketts Silhill Rock Chick With Wilfnbell. Definitley a strong and punishing jaw on this youngster, good teeth and pigmentation. Well set ears. Had the length of neck and level topline. Nicely set tail, bone good and coat of correct texture. Showed well. A good sized Aussie, but preferred the expression of the winner.

Aussies can take time to come to maturity and some of the youngsters in this class are at the stage of waiting to bloom, which will happen in time.

1 McCourt & Eardley’s Silhill Scarlet Ribbon With Sherex. Well proportioned, feminine head, with good pigmentation and eyes. Pleased to see the leather starting. Ears correctly set. Silky topknot to finish the look. In outline there was an arched neck and correct shoulders giving the typical outline. She has good spring of ribs and bodying up well. A great showgirl who moved consistently.

2 Foskett, Tyrrell & Freer’s Silhill Stelata. Liked her head with its strength of muzzle, right width and flat skull. It is correctly proportioned but has the feminine look. Good neck leading into well laid shoulders and level topline. Has double coat of correct texture. The right amount of bone for her size and she moved well. Lost to winner as her ears and eyes were not as neat and proportioned as the winners.

3 Leeson’s Millvalley Red Coral

1. Stoddart’s Millvalley Prima Donna. Feminine bitch with a good length of back and well proportioned. Nice shaped eyes, flat skull, well proportioned head and liked the strength of muzzle. Good pigmentation, good coat and bone. Tailset was good. Topline good. Depth of chest good and bodying up.

2. Leeson’s Armirelli Secret Code (Imp) Another bitch with the muzzle and strength but the feminine look. Nice shoulders and neck. Good pigmentation. Well set ears. Correct amount of bone for size. Good feet. Rich tan and good coat texture. Not quite the maturity of the winner.

1 Stoddart and Seaton’s Temora's Photo Finish (imp) Liked the typical Aussie outline with proportioned length of back. The neck and shoulders both correct to complete the picture. Nice eye, good mouth and earset. Well presented and coat good and pigmentation. Toppknot and ruff to contribute to the typical look of the breed. Smart on the move and showed well. RCC as BCC was just a big stronger in the rear movement at the challenge.

2 Mitchells Kisamba's Magic Music. Lovely small dark eyes and the deep pigmentation to give that varminity yet feminine look I like in an Aussie Bitch. Nice neck and length of back. Proportions correct and the bone was good. Good coat colour and with correct double coat. She has al ruff and topknot with the correct texture. Think she was a little unsettled in the ring today as she did no show to her best.

1 Jones’ Wyeafon Illusion In Red. Really liked the varminty yet feminine expression of this bitch. Dark eyes, black nose. Good strength of jaws. Correctly proportioned head with the flat skull. Head framed with the right amount of furnishings typical of the breed. Correct amount of bone. Shoulders were good and bend of stifle right. Well bodied, well sprung ribs and depth of chest. Coat of correct textures and length. Carried tail well. Moved out well and showed well throughout. Went on to win CC and BOB as she was more settled and had the maturity.

2 McCourt and Eardley’s Silhill Snap Dragon With Sherex. Well proportioned bitch with lovely neck an topline. All the furnishings that you expect for an adult Aussie. Silky topknot and the right texture on the body coat. Feminine head and moved and showed well. Good ear set and ears proportioned for head. Two very good examples of the breed, but preferred the expression of the winner.
