AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TERRIER 13 Judge(s): SHEILA G STODDART (MILLVALLEY) Australian Terriers Not having judged the breed since Crufts 2010 I am pleased to see that mouths have improved greatly & I could not fault any of the exhibits for this but I would still like to see a bit more length of muzzle in some of the exhibits which would improve the size of the teeth as of course these terriers are supposed to have strong punishing jaws in order to be able to kill vermin & the odd snake or two! We will have to watch the shape of the eyes are there were one or two who had round eyes instead of the almond shape we prefer. The round eye alters the expression of the Aussie so please try to breed away from that. Presentation was good. I like to present my dogs well as do most of us but please ..overpresentation is not acceptable as this is a hardy workmanlike terrier & should not be groomed to look like their cousins the Silky Terrier, there is a happy medium. MPD & PD (0). LD (2) 1 Bell’s Farfadet Du Pres Des Valois avec Belyndi, young red dog whose maturity belies his age. Strong head & well constructed with good drive on the move. He is well up to size against the other males but a nice type. OD (4) 1 Averis’ Aus Ch Cliftop Gunna Be A Star, mature red dog with good masculine head & lovely small ears! Well constructed dog & good to go over. If I was to be critical would have like a little more length in the back but he had the class & the presence of a showman. Handler needs to work on the movement as I think he was moved too fast which detracted from his overall balance on the move. CC; 2 Jones’ Silhill Private Collection at Wyeafon, young bl/t male who took my eye the minute he entered the ring. Everything about him was pleasing & lovely to go over as well. He powered round the ring & held his topline throughout. Only his obvious immaturity at this stage prevented him from winning this class. RCC; 3 Jackson & Foskett’s Mistabert Red Rascal. MPB (1) 1 Mitchell’s Blue Boomerang Heaven Sent, bl/t baby aged 6 months & 1 day! Quite a raw puppy at this stage but I liked her a lot & when she got going she was quite showy & did herself proud in the big ring at the end of the day. She needs to use her ears more but that will come with maturity. PB (1) 1 Blue Boomerang Heaven Sent. LB (3) 1 McCourt & Eardley’s Silhill Scarlet Ribbon with Sherex, red bitch, much in the mould of her mother who I admired greatly. A very typy bitch from this kennel who showed & went well on the move. Nice to go over with everything in the right place. Good dark eye which made for a varmint expression. RCC; 2 Mitchell’s Kisamba’s Magic Music, mother of the BP, in good coat & condition. Went well on the move but would have preferred a harder expression; 3 Bell’s Farfadet Fleur Du Pres Des Valois avec Belyndi. OB (2) 1 Jones’ Ch Wyeafon Illusion In Red, very typical red bitch, good length of back to height, moves with drive round the ring. She had no competition here as she was head & shoulders above the other bitches on the day & was delighted to have the opportunity to go over her. Such a shame she was not given much consideration for BIS. CC & BOB; 2 McCourt & Eardley’s Silhill Snap Dragon with Sherex, another red bitch from this kennel but was not moving well. Nice to go over but not in the same class as 1. SHEILA G STODDART |
