BEDLINGTON JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 18

My thanks go to The National Dog Show for inviting me to judge Bedlingtons at their prestigious and well run show. Having retired from showing it was interesting to see how the breed was progressing. What a lovely entry with only 1 absentee! I found no cracked pads and only one poor bite. Muscle tone varied enormously, ranging from virtually none to the super fit. Finally I would like to thank my 2 most helpful and patient lady stewards.

1st BALDWINS Woolytop Golden Surprise. Sandy dog of 16 months. Ok for size, reasonable length of head with pleasing expression. Angulations good, nice hare feet. Not in the best coat today. Moved ok once settled.

PGD (1)

1st OFFERS Woolytop the Wherryman. Well up to size but well proportioned dog in pale blue coat. Well off for bone and substance though not coarse in any way. Super head with good foreface, flat cheeks and good dentition. Deep flat ribs, good length of neck into sloping shoulders. Angulations and topline good. Moved well with ease. DCC.

LD (3)

1st McCOURTS Bisbee Super Trooper. Nicely proportioned blue dog who moved very well with correct Bedlington gait keeping his topline which won him the class. Good for size, muscle tone and angulations. Lovely head, ears and dentition good. In good coat, tail carriage not always the best.

2nd HEWITT-TAYLORS Mollora Red Kite for Tobanie. Close up to 1st . Nice for size and proportions. Lovely liver coat of good colour and texture. Excellent ribbing and nice length of loin. Liked his head and expression. Lost topline on the move.

1st CLEAVERS Jobanker Tinsel Town. Very raw 6 month old blue bitch but with plenty to like. Lovely length of head with good expression. Very nice height to length ratio, good legs and hare feet. Moved well with confidence once settled. Would like to see her do well as she matures.

PB (2)

1st LACEYS Bowlingbrook Makingwhoopi. 9 month blue bitch. Super length of head with good foreface and dentition. Would prefer a little more body length but she did tend to roach up a little too much at times making her look shorter. Pluses were her lovely deep flat sides, good shoulders and legs. Moved very well once settled. BP

2nd FARNWORTHS Sharnor Kwick Kuddles for Tsantha. Feminine 11 month blue bitch, not as forward as 1st. Nice for size with good angulations, sloping pasterns and hare feet. Moved ok with good tail carriage.

1st PEDERSENS Janmark Jingle Jangle. Much to like about this lathy dark blue bitch. Super depth of brisket, with nice length of body and loin. Long lean head with fine ears and wicked expression. Didn’t always stand to best advantage but did enough to win the class.

2nd DOBLES Daisy Rose Petal. Loved this no nonsense dual purpose blue bitch. By far the fittest and best muscled. Fabulous head with super bite and dentition, good angulations with best of legs and feet. Moved well with a light yet purposeful gait. If in better coat and trim may have gone all the way.
