BEDLINGTON JUDGE BLACKPOOL 14

Bedlington Terriers.

Many thanks to the Blackpool committee for inviting me to award CC’s to Bedlington terriers for the first time at this show. We were blessed with great weather & the showfield & rings looked superb. I would like to thank all the exhibitors for taking the time, effort & expense to present their dogs to me for judging. Blackpool can be a difficult trek for exhibitors, especially on a Friday & in recent times we terrier people have had our fair share of Friday shows. The quality of exhibits presented was excellent, with both the open dog & bitch classes, just bursting with the best examples of the breed. I just wish I had been able to present more with CC’s, as some worthy quality exhibits did not even get in the placings. It was a case of splitting hairs & rewarding the best performers on the day. It also bodes well for the breed with some fine youngsters starting to hit the showring, there will be some interesting competition as the season wears on. There were no issues with pads, dentition was good with the odd exception, however a couple could have done with a good clean! Muscle tone could always be improved on some exhibits. Movement still appears to be a little hit & miss, quite a few moving close behind & a few moving wide in front. Some flattened out noticeably on the move, perhaps this was down to the warm conditions.

PD (3)

1. Kiernan & Liu’s Sharnor High I’m Viktor at Kierlander. Nicely maturing youngster, 11 month old & already looking the finished article. He has a good clean head, large teeth, dark eye & fine ears. Good length of neck springing up from well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest. Plenty of bone throughout. Arched over loin which gave a pleasing silhouette both standing & on the move. Good tail set & lovely angulations at rear. Presented all round in great condition, with grooming from the top drawer. Moved well behind, but a little erratic in front at times. I am sure he will have an exciting future. BP.

2. Mayers’ Tcheria Tchevalier, just 6 months old & giving a lot away age wise to the winner. Showing a lot of promise with a decent shape throughout. Clean head, with good dentition, good fine ears which are well placed. Adequate length of neck & decent front. Well made throughout, balanced, pleasing shape on the eye & should mature nicely over the coming months. In good coat, when settled moved well.

3. Roberts, Rhicullen Bundle of Joy.

LD. (2)

1. Davies, Honeymist Sunny Delight. 2 year old liver. A pleasing clean head with good large dentition. Nothing at all exaggerated with this young man, presenting a pleasing picture in profile. In excellent good linty coat, with guard hairs in abundance. In good condition throughout. Well arched over loin with excellent tailset. He moved effortlessly around the ring, however today he just lacked that bit of humph in the challenge, when I would have preferred to see him drive on a little bit more from the rear.

2. Morris’s, Honeymist Mellow Tone in Bluemazzu. 3 year old upto size blue. Heavier throughout than 1 & I preferred the overall balance of 1. Pleasing shape, good front & decent tailset.

OD. (7)

A great class to judge, certainly made me think!

1. Cummings, Ch Rocabec Definitely Maybe. Excellent, a dog I have admired for sometime from the ringside & hands on he did not disappoint. Stood, he gave a fantastic outline, with the ideal length of back. Clean head with dark eye & thin ears. Good length of neck leading in to well placed shoulders. Wonderful depth of chest & deep through brisket. Body muscular & flexible. Arched over loin’ falling into a great tailset, which was held correctly at all times. Good front & angulations at rear. Moved gracefully but with purpose around the ring, covering the ground with ease. In fine fettle, muscletone, coat & prepared to perfection. Ticked all the boxes for me today, never stopped showing. A very well deserved CC & BOB.

2. Erikson & Freeman’s, AM GR/NORD Ch Isotops Xceptional Friend. Another one from the top drawer, pity it came up against 1 today. Slightly heavier dog throughout, however the same points apply as 1 above. Very pleasing to go over with everything in the right place. He again covered the ground effortlessly, however not quite the light movement of 1 today. RCC

3. Kiernan & Liu’s, Ch Bisbee Ikatcher at Kierlander

PB (4)

1. Ames, Sharnor High Hopes. Lot to like about this young lady. Gave a pleasing outline & shown with just the right amount of coat, to emphasise this. Feminine head with dark eye. Good length of neck, springing up from good clean shoulders & front. Supple in body & correctly arched over loin, which she kept on the move. Decent angulations at rear. Correct hares feet & ok throughout for bone. Good front movement, not as positive behind in movement as the young boy which cost her best pup.

2. Davies, Honeymist Posh Sugar. Lost out today on maturity to 1. Full of promise & does not disappoint hands on. Pleasing head, good length of neck & well bodied throughout. In great coat & condition. Will watch her progress.

3. Bannisters, Tcheria Tchaffinch with Miteymidgets.

JB (3,1)

1. Breezes, Firey Sharrona Violet. Good honest, sound youngster. Pleasing feminine head, decent neck & shoulders. Good length to height ratio. Good tailset & angulations at rear. Put down in really hard condition. Moved Ok coming & going, however flattened off on the move.

2. Morris’s, Bluemazzu Ballerina. Very similar in type to 1, however stronger head on this girl & heavier throughout. Not as positive in movement as 1 on the day & also flattened out on the move.

PGB (4,2)

1. Cumming’s, Honeymist Hot Spice at Rocabec. 22 month old liver. Another with a lot to like. Good length to height ratio & took your eye when entering the ring. Looked a picture stood & kept her shape on the move. Strong in head for a bitch & well off for bone throughout. Another one with a great tailset which was held at all times. Well bodied & great rear angulations. Moved OK.

2. Kings, Linbarick Queen at Frindleslane. 6 year old liver bitch. Feminine head, but beginning to show her age & good living. Enjoying her day out in the ring & didn’t let down her owner. Lovely temperament.

LB (5,2)

1. Davies, Honeymist Posh Dreamz. Shown with a little too much coat today for me, that said it was so thick, linty & in full bloom. Underneath the coat there was a lovely feminine bitch. Good clean head, on a decent length of neck & falling into clean shoulders. A good depth of chest & deep through brisket. Well arched over loin. Good angulations throughout & well off for bone.

2. McNally’s, Aireview Dancing Queen at Conekesheved JW Shcm. Upto size bitch, but quality & balanced throughout. A lot to like about this one, including a fantastic head! Good deep chest & adequate angulations throughout. Moved a little close behind & flattened on the move today.

OB (8)

Just like the open dog class, another fantastic class to judge, some good dogs not even been placed!

1. Bannisters, Ch Miteymidgets Look of love. Very tidy bitch, which ticked the boxes I was looking for. Nothing exaggerated & put down in great condition. Well bodied & with good muscle tone. Strong in head with dark eyes, strong teeth & fine ears. Good neck falling into well placed shoulders, good clean front. Good length to height ratio & nicely arched over loin. Good tailset, which she held on the move. Moved well & confidently both ways. I have seen this lady wearing a better coat than todays, but it’s just starting to come through again. CC.

2. Mayers, Tcheria Flibbertigibbet. Very similar in type to 1 & the same comments apply. Lovely bitch to go over with everything in the right place. She was just pipped on movement today, a very close difficult decision. I am sure there is more to come from this girl & I am sure she will be hitting the top spots soon. RCC.

3. Davies, Ch Honeymist Crazy Rhythm.
