BEDLINGTON DRIFFIELD 14 Judge: Mrs Pam Morton BEST OF BREED : 3677 GRAHAM Mr T D & Mrs J E Ruffsfurze Beren BEDLINGTON JUDGE DRIFFIELD 14 BEDLINGTON TERRIERS Thanks go to Driffield Agricultural Society Committee for my invitation to judge Bedlington Terriers. Also many thanks to my stewards Martin and Val who did a sterling job and looked after me so well. . Overcast but the rain kept off and although the grass was wet it was short. A big thank you to the exhibitors who gave me a good entry, sorry I couldn’t give you all a top place but I did my best and gave an honest opinion. Following the tirade of criticism of my last critique I am making a general statement regarding the dogs and not so much on individuals. There were fewer really big dogs than my previous appointment but still more over the standard than I would like, it is 16” and not 17”. Bone density appears to be improving with a couple of exceptions and generally muscle tone was good. Many exhibits looked the part when standing but lost topline when moving. Lack of angulation was evident in a few of the dogs. Nearly every exhibit had a good length of neck going into correct shoulder placement. Ribcages were in the main of good depth . Most eyes were of correct shape and size, with good colour relevant to their coat colour. On the whole ears were good with the exception of a few which were short. A couple of specimens had a point in the middle of their back, then a fall straight to the tailset, this is a construction fault – it should be a gradual rise over the loin. There were no cracked pads and all feet were good. Just a few gay tails which did surprise me as the last time I judged they were very much in evidence. PD (1, 1) LD (4, 1) 1 Davies’ Honeymist Sunny Delight. A lovely young dog with substance as well as being stylish, he totally fits the standard. Presentation was, as usual from this kennel, of the highest standard. Although he held his topline front movement let him down in the challenge. His title isn’t shown but he is a very worthy champion. 2 Murby & Heraty’s Tasseltabs Timber. A bigger stronger dog than one. 3 Morris’ Honeymist Mellow Tone In Bluemazzu. OD (10, 4) 1 Kiernan & Liu’s Sharnor High I’m Viktor At Kierlander. Have watched this one many times and couldn’t wait to go over him –he didn’t disappoint. Nice sized blue with plenty of bone and lovely body shape. Stood out in the class and in the challenge. CC. 2 Ames’ Ch Sharnor Faithful Falcon. Another with good bone and nice angulation. Did nothing wrong and moved with purpose. RCC. 3 Eriksson & Freeman’s Ch Am Gr Ch Nord Isotop’s Xceptional Friend. MPB (3, 1) 1 Hurley’s Fralex Culibre Amber. Lovely size and colour, very much a baby who thought play was more important than settled movement, I forgive this in a puppy. Presentation was immaculate. 2 Garbutt’s Aireview Xmas Star. Well muscled but another raw baby who is very gangly at the moment. Again well presented and as before I will forgive her playfulness. PB (6, 2) 1 Hurley’s L’end Show Melissa Blue Flower At Fralex. Well, this was the gem of the day; I have to enthuse about her as I have never gone over such a good, well balanced puppy. Whether it is because she is from Russia that her dark coat is so dense I don’t know, maybe it’s something to do with the climate over there. Fantastic bone and muscle. She may appear a little heavy but I can assure you she definitely isn’t. At this tender age she has the perfect depth and length through her ribcage. What a mouth, she has a perfect bite and her teeth are huge compared to British dogs. I just hope she doesn’t grow any more. Again immaculate presentation. Held her shape, with correct tail carriage, when moving in the class but decided to play the clown in the challenge. The more’s the pity because; before she moved I was considering her for the top honour. I have never been envious of someone owning a dog until now, how I wish she was mine; I could not fault her if I tried. BP. 2 Walshaw’s Janmark JKay. Another nice bitch that is maturing nicely. Such a pity she met above, but am sure she will have a bright future and I will watch her progress with interest. 3 Bannister’sTcheria Tchaffinch with Miteymidgets. JB (3) 1 Morris’ Bluemazzu Ballerina. A picture standing and held her topline when moving. Excellent presentation. 2 Baldwin’s Honeymist Take The Lead At Woolytop. Smaller than 1 and fell away at backend when on the table Appeared disinterested today 3 Norris & Davies’ Jorja’s Blue Princess. YB (2) 1 Baldwin’s Honeymist Take The Lead At Woolytop. 2 Norris & Davies’ Jorja’s Blue Princess. Up to size. Well muscled. Hard to judge as both dog and handler were raw beginners, but with practice will improve. Stick at it and most of all enjoy it. PGB (4, 1) 1 Walshaw’s Janmark JKay. 2 Graham’s Ruffsfurze Zemzem. Lovely standing but high tail carriage spoilt her movement. 3 Baldwin’s Honeymist Take The Lead At Woolytop. LB (4) 1 Graham’s Ruffsfurze Beren. OK for size and well muscled. Tail carriage was good and she moved with ease. Not necessarily a glamorous bitch but as sound as a pound, everything is good. She excels in length of foreface, which is something we are losing in the breed. A pleasure to go over. CC BOB. 2 Davies’ Honeymist Posh Dreamz. So much to like about her, with the consistent quality exhibited by this breeder, unfortunately let down with poor front movement today. 3 Ames’ Sharnor High Hopes. OB (9, 4) 1 Mayers’ Tcheria Flibbertigibbet. Although not an immediate eyecatcher she stood out in this class. She is strong but retains femininity. Well presented and moved with purpose. How lovely to see a mature Bedlington with clean, white teeth - thank you exhibitor. I understand she was recently awarded her title. RCC. 2 McNally’s Aireview Cristal Blue ShCm. A lovely bitch when moving, but spoilt the picture when standing as her topline falls away. Beautifully presented. 3 Murby & Heraty’s Honeymist String Of Pearls With Tasseltabs. Pam Morton (Judge) |
