MIDLAND BEDLINGTON TERRIER CLUB
Canine Academy, Tollerton, Nottingham 22 February 2014

Judge Liz Cartledge.

The Midland Bedlington Terrier Club held an 18 class open show at the Canine Academy, Tollerton, Nottingham. My apologies for the lateness of this report but I misplaced the judging book containing my shorthand notes for quite a while. Then I was sent a DVD but being completely non-technical, I am happy to keep this as a memento of the show and luckily I have now been re-united with my judging book. Putting things in safe places is not such a great idea when you then can’t remember where they are!

The dog classes were low in numbers and I must confess I found the breed difficult to judge. Bedlingtons are different from any of the terrier breeds I am familiar with but today what really pleased me was the lovely temperaments and friendly attitude both on the table and on the floor. I penalised gay tails; for me this spoils the overall impression of outline and balance. Best In Show was a bitch, Ruffsfurze Beren; RBIS and BOS Woolytop Iwan Super Wizard who was also Best Veteran; and Best Puppy Sharnor High I’m Viktor at Kierlander. I greatly appreciated the opportunity of judging the breed at club show level.

PD (3,1)

1, BP Kiernan and Liu’s Sharnor High I’m Viktor at Kierlander, shapely blue of 8 months, very good outline and proportions, quality head, dark eyes, excellent pigment, correct front, well-handled to look his best, good boy and quarters, moved and showed well for a baby. Just a bit restless on the stack but this will improve with maturity. Tail a little gay when moving but he was such an extrovert who clearly enjoyed showing off. I was happy to forgive him;

2, Wiggan’s Gnarkelm Blue Eyed Boy at Lodmainn, 11 months, masculine puppy but not as settled as winner on the move or when posed. Attractive head, good coat but presentation could be better.

OD (4,2)

1 RBD, Graham’s Ruffsfurze Kazan, 2 ½ years, good length of head, dark eyes, correctly shaped ears, firm body, well-muscled, delightful character, well-handled and presented, steady showman;

2, Brady and Carter’s Tcheria Shenanigans, 2 years, handsome youngster in good form, excellent topline, quality head, showy and cooperative, well presented coat. Just preferred tail carriage of 1st on the move.

VD (3,1)

1, BD and RBIS, Baldwin’s Wollytop Iwan Super Wizard, 9 ½ years but you would never think he was a veteran, smart and focused with a quality head, dark intelligent eyes, clean outline, excellent coat and condition, moved well and looked the part all the time, game and fit. I should just like a little bit more of him for a male but he is a very correct Bedlington;

2, Caines’ Burmington And Me Too, 9 years and he too was young looking with a spring in his step, pleasing head, good body and depth, well presented and handled. Not quite the concentration in showmanship of 1st.

Breeders Dog (1)

1 Woolytop Iwan Super Wizard

MPB (1)

1, Ames’ Sharnor High Hopes, litter sister to the dog puppy and she really thought being at a dog show was the place to play and have fun! Feminine head, dark naughty eyes, totally relaxed about being on the table and enjoyed taking her “Mum” for a walk. Good body and depth, showed with confidence.

JB (3,1)

1, Graham’s Ruffsfurze Zem Zem, 15 months, good honest bitch with much to lie, attractive head, good impression, large white teeth, typical outline, well-muscled, moved quite well. Same way bred as my BIS and RBD;

2 Breeze’s Firey Sharrona Violet, 12 months, good head, well presented coat, very fit with good muscle tone, sympathetically handled. Failed a little in hind movement and topline to winner.

PGB (4,1)

1, Kinn’s Burmington Reet Petite, sired by 2nd in VD, 18 months liver, best mover in this class, feminine head, dark eyes, intelligent expression, firm body, good coat, well-muscled quarters, in excellent condition;

2, Pocklington’s Nebercrackers Rosie Blue, 2 years blue, such a feminine girl, standing looked a picture but lost her topline a little on the move. Front action could be better too, beautifully presented, lovely head and eyes;

3, Baladwin’s Honeymist golden Date at Woolytop.

LB (3)

1, BB and BIS, Graham’s Rufffurze Beren, I really fell for this bitch, most attractive head, intellent expression, well balanced, everything in the right place, held her topline on the move, good coat and condition, well muscled and very fit, sound mover, excellent type and size. The star of the day and well deserved;

2, Mayers and Bannister Toolbox Helping Hand for Tcheria, quality bitch who had to do things her way (typical Swede!) Pleasing head and eye, clean, well turned out coat. Not quite as together on the move as Beren but this was a good class;

3, Kinn’s Burmington Truly Blue.

OB (5,2)

1, RBB, Mayer’s Tcheria Flibertigibbet, litter sister to 2nd in OD, and a comfortable winner of this class, good looking bitch who performed well. I liked her head, firm body, well muscled quarters, light springy movement, showed well, good coat and condition. Did not get her act together in the challenge but a decent bitch;

2 Bannister’s Ch Miteymidgets Look of Love, 2 years, lovely head, dark expressive eyes, good depth of body, correct feet, well-handled and presented, calm steady showgirl;

3 Walkers and Mitchell’s Tunman Topsy Turvy.

VB (1)

1 Owen’s Ch Bisbee Benvenuto, 10 years young, gorgeous bitch, real laster as she has also been busy in the nursery rearing 4 litters! Well proportioned, held her topline on the go round, appealing head, expression. Very fit and focused, moved and showed with animation.

Breeders B (2)

1 Bannisters’s Ch Miteymidgets Hawkers Cove ShCM, 6 years, very fit and sporty, typical head, dark eyes, good body, positive showgirl and mover, well presented, handled and conditioned. Dam of 2nd in OB;

2 Tunman Topsy Turvy.

Non Breeders B (4)

1 Burmington’s Reet Petite; 2 Nebercracker’s Rosie Blue;

3 Burmington’s Truly Blue.
