BEDLINGTON JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 12

BEDLINGTON TERRIER

I was honoured to be asked to judge the Bedlington Terriers at the 2012 National Terrier Championship Show, with a quality entry of 60 dogs. I am pleased to report all mouths and feet were good and there is a big improvement in the tail carriage with most exhibits. I was disappointed with some presentation and poor movement. The current cost of entries and travel is so high, I would have expected more effort with ring training, not just with the newcomers, but also the seasoned exhibitors. Ring training is essential and makes a difference. Best of Breed was Ames' Sharnor Emerald Electra.

MPD(1)

1 Brady &Carter's Tcheria Shenanigans. Stood alone and just 6 months, he has a lot to learn. Must not grow on, nice type, well balanced with a dark blue coat, shows promise.

PD(4)

1 Kiernan &Liu's Bisbee Ikatcher At Kierlander. Cracking puppy with all the breed essentials and with maturity should go to the top, long, lean head, correct bite, excellent front, depth of body, flat ribs and best of hindquarters, kept his topline on the move, moved with confidence and drive, beautifully presented, a credit to his owner. BP.

2 Graham's Ruffsfurze Kazan. A different type as he is a lot longer cast. Long, lean head with strength of foreface, dark eye, ears heavier than I would like, correct front and depth of chest, powerful hindquarters but lost his topline on the move.

3 Walshaw &Richardson's Janmark Jeremiah.

JD(3)

1 Garbutt's Highdene Hitman At Aireview. Nice size blue dog with high head carriage, dark eye, well placed ears and reach of neck, flat ribs and correct hind angulation, lovely balance of height to length, movement was spoilt with his handler pulling him, presented in good order.

2 Dobson's Stichery Incy Wincy Spider. Just out of puppy and needs time to mature, good size, well balanced, excellent head and eye, good ear placement, good front and tail carriage, moved ok.

3 Worrall's Bluesmurf Black Magic.

ND(3)

1 Bouse's Tredomen Big Floyd. Nice size dog with dark blue coat, in good condition, narrow head and big teeth and good foreface, natural arch over the loin with definite tuck-up. I thought he was too straight in the hindquarters which spoilt his movement.

2 Walshaw &Richardson's Janmark Jeremiah. A different type to first, not in as good a coat, skull narrow, head carried high onto good shoulders, ribs deep and arch over the loin, when moving went wide behind, nicely presented.

3 Dobson's Stichery Incy Wincy Spider.

LD(8)

1 Richardson's Highdene Howzthat. At Only 17 months, needs time to mature, good size and well balanced, correct length to height, correct front, narrow head with dark eye and good teeth, reach of neck onto sloping shoulders, flat ribs, low set tail, moved well, nicely presented.

2 Brooks' Doehey Heartstrings. Attractive blue in good coat and colour, strong foreface, fine ears, reach of neck and lay of shoulders, moved with drive. I would like to see him carry more weight.

3 Hamilton's Harrisclub Mister Moonray.

OD(4)

1 Walshaw's Ch Janmark Blue Encounter. Strong, masculine, mature blue dog, good head and eye with length of neck onto correct shoulders, depth of body with plenty of bone, good legs and feet, moved with drive and was well presented. DCC.

2 Jones' Pengerrig Unique. Although he is different type to the first, he is a nice size with excellent coat and colour, lovely head proportions, fine ears, neck and well laid shoulders, deep body, nice quarters with low hocks, movement light and springy, nicely presented. Res DCC.

3 Owens' Ch Bisbee Beachcomber.

MPB (3, 2)

1 Mayer's Tcheria Flabbertgibbet. At just 7 months and showing promise, but needs time to develop. Lovely blue coat, dark eye, head, length of neck onto correct shoulders, arch over the loin, good legs and feet, needs more confidence and ring training.

PB(4, 1)

1 Graham's Ruffsfurze Beren. Up to size with plenty of bone, lovely head, strong foreface and big teeth, ears not the best, but she has a correct front and body proportions, hocks well let down, low set tail, kept putting her head down on the move which spoilt her topline, nicely presented.

2 Williams' Ystwythbay Rhapsody In Blue. Coat of dark blue with silky top knot, feminine expression, full of quality and fits the standard, needs more confidence on the move, well presented.

3 Godden's Vakurblue Bacon Buttie.

JB(1)

1 Richardson's Highdene Hetti. Stood alone, still immature for age, typical mild expression, well balanced, good shape and angulation, correct shoulder placement, arch over the loin with good tuck-up, hocks well let down, good feet, one for the future.

PGB(7)

1 McNally's Aireview Cristal Blue. Pretty blue, coat a bit pale in colour, lovely head, mild expression, eyes bright, fibert shaped ears, reach of neck onto well laid shoulders, good deep body, kept her topline on the move, well presented.

2 Lacey's Bowlingbrook Trick Or Treats. Correct size with a lovely coat, nice head, reach of neck, well laid shoulders, and nice outline, short hocks and good legs and feet, unlucky to meet first, just preferred movement, well presented.

3 Butler's Yarbach Gorgeous Gabby.

LB(8)

1 Richardson's Highdene High Society. Lovely bitch in good coat, colour and texture, feminine expression, good front, shoulder placement and angulated hindquarters with low set tail, kept her topline on the move, good legs and feet, nicely presented.

2 Shorrocks' Doehey Queen Of Hearts. A leggier typy than first but very attractive and nicely presented, lovely head with fill up under her dark eye, good neck and topline, low set tail, good legs and feet. I would like more depth in body, moved soundly.

3 Thompson's Jetsway Absolut Bling.

OB(11)

1 Ames' Sharnor Emerald Electra. I am pleased to award her her third CC. Lovely bitch, correct size, type and quality, feminine expression, good front and shoulder, deep ribs, arch over her loin, low hocks and tail set, movement light and springy, lovely coat and colour, excellent presentation. BCC and BOB.

2 Yearley's Ch Gnejnabay Genegenie Gall At Lowbrook. She is an example of true movement, light and springy, straight in front and behind, lovely head, strong and well filled up beneath her, correct body and shoulders, deep ribs, short hocks, a new coat and she will take the top spot again. RCC.

3 Walshaw's Janmark Misty Horizons.
