Thank you to all exhibitors for your entries I had a good cross section of dogs to choose from. Some dogs that I have admired in the past were either not in coat or didn’t move well and others that I’ve not noticed before, were ‘found ‘ on the table. We must all remember judging should be on the day and not on what something has won or not won, beforehand. I’m sure the same dogs could be placed differently on another day under me, some that did or didn’t perform affected their placings accordingly.
Some super puppies coming through, with all four of my puppy class winners looking very promising. They gave me some hair splitting decisions.

Minor Puppy - Dog Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1st - Onthill Aramis (Mr R & Mrs A Ramus) bl/tan of 6 months and full of confidence. Lovely for size, with ottery head, good mouth, neat ear and dark eye. Spans easily , good rib and firm loin with excellent jacket and thick loose pelt .Holds a good top line, with well set tail and correct carriage. Moved well on his lovely feet and well boned forelegs, pushed hard for Bpd, his time will come.

2nd - Bandicoot Doc Martin (Ms V L K Docwra) grizzle 8mths a size bigger and a little in the air on his legs at present. Another with a lovely head on long neck and narrow front and body. Good coat and pelt covering a level back and correct tail set. Moves well, just needs to mature on and fill his frame.

3rd - Kersfell Cool River (Mrs M Sneddon)

1st - Gameway Mcvitie (Mrs P Clark) 9mths grizzle with nice head, neat ear and lovely eye. Strong jaws and correct mouth. Lovely front and narrow body of enough length with good top line and tail. Easy span, light frame and just enough bone with small, tight feet. Quality jacket and loose pelt. Moves well coming and going, with enough extension both ends. A promising prospect. BP

2nd - Picer Just Joey (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering) Strong headed dog and more body and bone right through than one. Carries a good topline both standing and on the move with tail correctly set and carried. In good coat and condition, not quite matching one in front but has many other good qualities and moves soundly enough for a youngster

3rd - Colourbox Flint Knapper Over Swingwing (Mrs L A Fordham)

Junior - Dog Entries: 10 Absentees: 2

Good class with several promising younsters.

1st - Crazy Train Pilgrim to Chatmoss (Mr & Mrs D J & P M Lockley) Good headed grizzle with dark eye and correct expression. A little heavy in ear perhaps but they’re well set and used. Good neck and front with easily spanned body of just enough length to use himself on the move, which is where he clinched this class. He is moderately angulated and a shade more behind would be nice, but he uses every bit that he’s got to stride out. Carries a nice top line and tail and was in good order.

2nd - Barnby Caramel Wafer At Bimandi (Mrs M J Holmes) Red dog who pushed one hard. Stronger headed and heavier all through than one but not to his detriment. Balanced angulation and body of good length with super coat and pelt , tail is well set if a bit long, but it is carried ok. Did just enough to secure his place.

3rd - Stineval Napoleon JW (Mr & Mrs A G Horner)

Yearling - Dog Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1st - Tythrop Timepiece (Mrs J L Lee) blue/tan of superb colour with deep double coat of crisp texture. Ottery head and correct eye and expression with neat ear. Narrow throughout with just enough bone for his light frame and racy quarters. Short tail is well set and carried perfectly on the move which he does so smoothly, covering plenty of ground with very little effort. Only needing a tad more flesh all over for the ultimate finished picture which he will gain with maturity and where the bitch clinched the final evaluation. A very nice, sound , unexaggerated type, who looks fit for his job. CC.

2nd - Daluce Renegade (Mr J & Mrs H M Thomas) grizzle, with masculine head and strong jaw. Different type to one, being heavier bodied and boned, but with nice overall balance. Super coat and pelt and tip top condition, covering his nice top line and tail set. Carries his tail correctly, but spoilt himself on the move and beat another nice youngster into third who also blew his chances here.

3rd - Bandicoot Betfair (Mr G E & Mrs V L K Docwra)

1st - Chatmoss Les Diables Rouges Ir Jun Ch CW '14 ShCM (Mr K J & Mrs C Fielding) light grizzle who catches the eye for his showmanship initially and then his lovely balance. Have done him well before and haven’t changed my mind. Typical head, neat ear and good eye. Mature body of good length with tail perfectly set and it never stops wagging! Moves soundly and was in good body condition, just lacking a little in topcoat, but what was there was harsh.

2nd - Bramblesgate Razzle Dazzle (Mr S C & Mrs A J Massen) Dark grizzle in good coat but could have carried an extra pound to his advantage. Masculine head and nice overall balance with well set, if a bit long, tail. Moves well enough, but was outshone by ones happy nature.

3rd - Mansergh Burne Jones (Miss A Roslin Williams)

Res - Clipstone Starshine (Miss E & Mrs J Jackson)

VHC - Ragatam Lets Go At Borderbridge (Miss B J Singh)

Another class with several quality males.

1st - Benattivo Betfred (Mrs S J & Mr C P Girling) Richest of dark reds in beautiful coat and condition with excellent pelt. Masculine head with powerful jaws, big teeth and well set ear. Lovely neck that fits smoothly into his narrow body of good length with strong loin and well muscled rear. Good bone and tight feet. Moved out well and was a pleasing picture for balance and un mistakable type. Pushed the CC winner hard, just losing out on eye and expression, but nothing more than that. A pleasure to judge and was thrilled to get the chance to do it again. RCC

2nd - Wadesleia Mr Herriot (Mrs H A & Mr A Fletcher) grizzle with very ottery head and lovely eye. Has come on in leaps and bounds since I judged him as a puppy. Unfortunately came in his underwear today but he still has many good qualities, even without his jacket. He is an upstanding male who is in no way coarse ,but all boy. Is a better balance now than when I had him last and has fulfilled his early promise. Narrow throughout with good rib and loin and a racy well angulated hind quarter. Look forward to seeing him in a new jacket.

1st - CH Badgerholme Epsom Jet JW ShCM (Mr & Mrs B Dickinson & Miss T James) Blue/tan lovely sized boy with a very nice head. Another who has really come together and now looks much more the finished article. Has a super outline on the stack with plenty of angulation. Good for rib and has filled his loin. Carries his well set tail ok on the move when he decides to, typical border! Lovely to go over, a touch more coat would have helped his cause today but he is a worthy champion and well deserved his title

2nd - Solitary Mist (Mr D & Mrs C Hodgson) Grizzle male who lacked depth to his jacket today. Well proportioned head with neat, if a little high set, ear and strong Jaws. He is one of those frustrating dogs that appeals in most places, but can have dour days when he can hide all his qualities. Good body and fit for his job he is sound enough if a little unenthusiastic on the move. Holds a good topljne both standing and on the move on medium boned legs and tight feet, with well muscled, racy quarters and correctly set and carried tail.

1st - Ragatam Hawk At Staynorwood (Mr & Mrs G Richardson) grizzle with lovely head and eye. Good front and spannable body with good length allowing him to move on a longer stride than 2. In deep double coat of good texture and excellent body condition.

2nd - Bolt Tail Jebba ShCM (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman) Another good veteran who was in very good order with superb coat and pelt. Shorter in body than one, with a masculine head and still super mouth. Went round well a credit to you both keeping your boys in such good condition.

Good Citizen - Dog or Bitch Entries: 5 Absentees: 0

1st - Borderella Snap Dragon (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman) dark grizzle bitch built on narrow lines with a feminine head and good mouth. Excellent coat of the crispest texture on a good pelt covering an easily spanned body of enough length. Went round well for her handler.

2nd - Otterwood Cyrus JW ShCM (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee) looked a picture in here compared to earlier in the day when he was not on his toes at all. Lovely headed dog of good size with a super coat and pelt. Has matured into a very honest border with nice topljne and firm racy hind quarters. Went round as keen as mustard in here with a different handler I think and a girl in front added to the interest! Beat off his nice kennel for this spot on his coat and overall bloom

3rd - Otterwood Caius JW ShCM (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee)

1st - Earthtaw Groundsel In Tufterslodge (Ms J M Woolacott) blue bitch of good quality with ottery head and expressive eye. Good outline, top line and tail set and carriage with well angulated rear. Moved well around the ring with plenty of reach and drive. A little more depth to her coat could have seen her go further. A very promising bitch who is spot on for size and type.

2nd - Hemlockstone Diana at Bowencloud (Mrs S J Ruth) Another blue , a better colour than one at present, with good texture and thick pelt. Has a nice neck and top line but couldn’t match one for front and subsequently on the move. She too is good for size and is narrow enough, just a little unsure of herself today.

3rd - Onthill Lady De Winter (Mr R & Mrs A Ramus)

Puppy - Bitch Entries: 9 Absentees: 0

1st - Picer Aimee Vilbert (Mr G & Mrs S Pickering) dark grizzle in super coat and condition with strong but feminine head with powerful jaws. Lovely body lines and narrow throughout, with well ribbed up body of good length. Firm top line and correct tail set and carriage, she stepped out well holding her really good outline and pushed the dog very hard, only missing out on the narrowest of margins for the top spot. One we’ll hear more of I’m sure.

2nd - Tojamatt Integrity (Mr & Mrs D Matthews) Super grizzle in lovely body condition, but no top coat! Still couldn’t over look her obvious high quality from her lovely head to her well muscled rear. Powers round the ring and is just a fraction wide behind going away but is ideal in every other respect. Spans easily round her excellent light frame and narrow body, super front with medium boned legs and tight feet. Should trouble the best in coat.

1st - Smalesmouth Skylark (Mrs J Roberts) Super light grizzle who doesn’t make the most of herself standing, but she comes alive on the move which she does so well , on her correctly boned legs and tight feet and shows off her excellent level top line, perfect tail set and carriage and optimum reach and drive that only correct confirmation will allow. Feminine head, with no trace of coarseness Beautiful neck fits smoothly into her shoulders and sits on her narrow well ribbed back body of good size and lovely condition, with crisp double coat and thick pelt. RCC

2nd - Sulan Strictly Blues Dancin' (Mrs S J Baxter) blue/tan another good mover who showed off to advantage on the move. Nice head, and expression on a decent forehand and narrow body of good confirmation and length. Covered the ground well in profile and just needs to mature and firm up in body to complete a very nice picture.

3rd - Brumberhill Bollinger For Chesterton (Mr A J & Mrs W Mooney)

1st - Tythrop Turn Back Time (Mrs J L Lee) Blue of lovely size and type with fabulous coat of the best possible colour and density. Very appealing head and eye with neat well set ear. Good front with just enough bone in her nice straight forelegs. Light framed, well ribbed back and is balanced in her angulation. Short tail, correctly set and carried completes a very nice, picture on the move, which she does well when she concentrates.

2nd - Baillieswells Stronachie (Professor A S Milton) Another lovely headed bitch of super quality Is ideal for size and carries a good coat on her well made body. Light framed and easily spanned, she was nt putting her all in today but did enough to secure her place in good company.

3rd - Ottaswell Aida At Hoathwood (Mrs S Hales)

1st - Mansergh Plusfours (Miss A Roslin-Williams) Very feminine light red who shows her socks off. Is well made throughout with good neck and shoulder and has a thick pelt. Is very workmanlike and strides out around the ring with great confidence. Certainly is game and active and would get to ground without any trouble.

2nd - Olderhill Malvena (Mrs S Wilson) Grizzle of nice quality who matched one in every respect but was out moved today. Nice head and expression with good neck and front. In excellent order throughout with good coat and pelt covering a firm body and topline. She too shows well and there was very little to separate these two nice girls.

3rd - Borderella Snap Dragon (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman)

1st - Badgerbeck Prada (Miss L M Jenkins) Beautiful red bitch built along excellent lines. Lovely head and eye with neat ear set on super forehand and correctly constructed body that was easily spanned. In deep double coat, well presented as always from this exhibitor. Straight front and tight feet which she moved out well on in her class, but lost all sparkle when it mattered in the challenge. Pushed the rcc all the way, but was just out moved, a pity as she is lovely.

2nd - Shiftyfox Mystical Dream (Mr G Wildey) Blue/tan of super colour and texture but could look even better in a new jacket. Feminine head, not overdone anywhere. Is light framed and narrow all through with good neck on a easily spanned body and is well ribbed back. Carries a good top line and tail is correctly set and carried. Could easily trouble the best with a bit more bloom and condition, another very nice one completed a trio of lovely bitches.

3rd - Tarkaswell Double Agent JW (Mrs C E Samsom)

1st - CH Cobstoneway Moon River at Clipstone (Miss E & Mrs J Jackson) from the moment this bitch bounced into the class, I knew she would be a hard act to follow. She was certainly game and active and caught my eye early on. Dark grizzle , deep double jacket on a thick pelt, presented to the minute and as fit as a flea, what more could I ask for. Lovely ottery head with really good muzzle, eye and skull shape. Superb front, straight, narrow and well boned with super feet. Deep narrow body with enough length and good strength in her loin with perfect hind quarters, which she used to her advantage on the move. Would follow a horse all day and get to ground with her easy span body. Beat the lovely dog CC being more mature and obviously more finished. CC,BOB & TG3

2nd - Nantcoch Ffion JW ShCM (Mrs J M Phillips) Another lovely bitch with coat just coming in. Super head with strong muzzle on good neck and spannable body. Nice for size and is all border, with level top line and good quarters, which she moves well on. Different stamp to one, being more like the 3rd placed bitch who was also quality.

3rd - Cedarhill Wish Upon a Star JW (Mrs C Dean)

two lovely veterans.

1st - Int/Am/Can CH Sulan Fancy That (Mrs S J Baxter) Really liked this grizzle who beat off stiff competition from two with her extra length and ground covering stride. Ottery head, good front, fit body and level topline and still has sound legs and feet which she moves well on.

2nd - Gameway Cappuccino of Withershins ShCM (Mr M J Day) Grizzle in good body condition who moves and shows better than some half her age. Is still keen and goes round with great enthusiasm and soundness. Ottery head and well made body of correct size, just a little more compact than one, but still a very good bitch.
