BORDER JUDGE BOSTON 17

Border Terriers

My thanks to the society for inviting me, to my two very able stewards, Barry & Debs, &, most especially, to the exhibitors who allowed me the privilege of going over their dogs & who accepted my decisions so sportingly.

Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the entry. The limit & open classes in both sexes had quality beyond the placings & there were some very promising puppies, especially among the bitches, this must augur well for the future. Heads were largely typical, most were spannable & considering the time of year I was pleasantly surprised to find so many in good coat. On the downside, many were lacking muscletone & front movement continues to be an issue & not just in the lower classes. I was pleased with both line ups & thought my main winners excellent examples of the breed. I was delighted to hear that my BOB went on to win the group.

MPD (5,1a)

1 Haydon & Gibbings’ Earthtaw Indiana Jones, 7 months grizzle, well grown with a super coat & pelt. Well angulated, head developing nicely, good bite & sound on the move;

2 Barrett’s Howthwaite In Voice, well grown grizzle of almost 9 months. Head OK for age, good mouth, well angulated front & rear & sound on the move. Pelt fine but lacking topcoat today;

3 Johnson’s Karison Kustard.

PD (6)

Good class.

1 Matthews’ Tojamatt Moriarty, strong headed red dog, well balanced & in a heavy coat of good texture. Excellent pelt & moving well front & rear. Good feet, well shaped tail. BPD;

2 Marina’s Cedarhill Ghost Writer, another promising youngster. Lovely headed red with neat, well set ears. Moved well on good feet. Double coated but not much depth of topcoat at the moment;

3 E Indiana Jones.

JD (3)

Three nice young dogs.

1 Hughes’ Chatmoss Bullet Tooth Tony, good headed red with neat ears & big teeth. Well balanced, good topline which he maintains on the move. Just enough topcoat. Particularly liked his length of stride;

2 Larner’s Hawcoat Mr Fixit, blue with masculine head & good bite. Correct double coat, good body length & moving well on neat feet;

3 Baxter’s Mysulan Going Solo.

YD (5,1)

1 Johnson’s Karison Kosta, lovely dog. Very masculine head with strong bite & neat ear. Pleasing neck, body proportions & tailset. Just enough coat overlying pliable pelt, moving well but lost spark in the challenge;

2 Stockley’s Foxfactor Crime Of Passion, grizzle, more lightly built type & not so strong in head. Well balanced dog with a good pelt. Won his place on his free & easy movement;

3 Yore’s Southash Deputy Sheriff at Smurfski.

PGD (7)

1 Brewster & Green’s Stowthorney Mr Tickle, red. Nice dog all round. Masculine head, good reach of neck & body length. Double coated, good pelt & sound from any angle;

2 Dean’s Tyrian Arrowsmith, strong headed dark grizzle of correct size. Super coat & pelt, nice tail & sound on the move. Preferred rib of 1;

3 Massen’s Bramblesgate Razzle Dazzle.

LD (10,2)

1 Thomas’ Daluce King Of Emotion, grizzle. Lovely dog, good all round. Masculine, ottery head with correct bite, good neck & well ribbed back. Well angulated front & rear & moving well on neat feet. Good depth of jacket, pliable pelt & super expression. RCC;

2 Irving’s Dandyhow Galloping Gourmet, grizzle. Another quality dog. Masculine head, good bite, super coat & pelt. Well balanced, drove out well from behind but front action not so positive as winner;

3 Clark’s Gameway McVitie.

OD (12,2)

1 Hall & Ellis’ Ch Brackenfell Bok To Bach, eyecatching dog with a natural arrogance about him. Super head, strong neck, well proportioned throughout. Jacket in excellent order, pliable pelt. Looks bigger than he is, spans easily. Fit, well muscled & completely attentive to his handler. Moving well, never put a foot wrong. Well deserved CC, BOB & G1;

2 Fletcher’s Wadesleia Mr Herriot, quality grizzle who scored well for size & balance. Very sound on the move. Good feet, well shaped tail. Head masculine but not overdone. Lot to like but not the ring presence of 1;

3 Armstrong’s Ir Ch Ploughdown Plato.

VD (2)

1 Hill’s Ragatam Legend, 7 year old grizzle. Nice type of dog, good head, coat, pelt & tailset. Sound mover but up to size & carrying too much weight today;

2 Fordham’s Colourbox Gunpowder, 7 year old blue. Better size than 1 but not in such good coat & not as positive in front movement.

GC (5)

1 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Ocean Sunrise, eyecatching blue dog. Strong head, well proportioned, great coat & pelt & moving well. Unfortunately just too big;

2 Pearce’s Bimandi’s Bellisima, red bitch. Nice type, feminine head, well balanced & sound on the move. Short of topcoat & carrying a little too much condition today;

3 Sutton’s Lady Fiona McTarry at Thistlewhiss.

MPB (11,2)

1 Johnson’s Karison Krumble, dark grizzle. Correct size for age, lovely feminine head, super coat & pelt & drove out well from well angulated hindquarters;

2 Wright’s Totherend Blue Jean Topsy, 8 month old blue. More strongly made & slightly longer cast than 1. Pleasing head, neck, body length. Neat feet & moving well;

3 Parry’s Oakyard On Song.

PB (12,1)

1 Armstrong’s Ploughdown Paloma, eyecatching young lady, 10 month old grizzle with a lovely feminine head, well balanced with good topline & tailset. Jacket in good order, well muscled & moving freely. BPB & BP;

2 North’s Northborders Lady Mary, also 10 months blue of slightly heavier build. Pleasing head, neck & body length. Moving well on neat feet;

3 Fawcett’s Carrock Caelan.

JB (9,1)

1 Girling’s Benattivo Fire Flower, smart red bitch, pleasing throughout. Attractive head, good rib & body length, correct double coat. Nice size & very good movement;

2 Lee’s Bon Appetit by Tythrop, grizzle. Good sound bitch, very feminine. Neat feet, narrow front, super coat & pelt & well shaped tail. Moved well when settled;

3 Southam’s Southash Finding Bliss.

YB (8,2)

1 Brannan & Kelly’s Brankell Double Or Quits, well constructed grizzle. Strong but feminine head, well angulated front & rear, well set on tail. Neat feet, moving well. Jacket in good order. Liked her;

2 Pickering’s Picer Flora McIvor, dark grizzle. Good head, neat feet, easily spanned. Well shaped tail, moving freely. Correct double coat but not the depth of winner’s;

3 Stockley’s Foxfactor Fancy Free.

PGB (12,4)

1 Barrett’s Howthwaite Gold Dust, leggy blue bitch, narrow throughout. Feminine head, good body length, pliable pelt, correct double coat not at its best. She has good feet & outmoved the others in this class with a free & easy stride;

2 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Love Song, grizzle shown in full coat of good texture, plenty of pelt. Attractive head with correct bite, well angulated fore & aft, good tail. Moved well in profile but felt she was going a little close behind today;

3 North’s Stowthorney Miss Chief at Northborders.

LB (11,3)

1 James & Render’s Chorbeck Gossip Girl at Blackmine, headed a lovely class. Grizzle bitch in great condition. Strong but feminine. Attractive head with correct bite, dark expressive eye. Well constructed, spans easily & drove out strongly. Gleaming coat overlying ample pelt. Well handled & never stopped showing. Pleased to award her the CC, her first. I hope the others soon follow;

2 Spencer’s Ploughdown Persephone, beautifully presented grizzle, more strongly made than 1. Super coat & pelt, well set tail, good feet & moving very well. Preferred head of 1;

3 Sansom’s Tarkaswell Doctor’s Orders.

OB (12,2)

1 Lee’s Ch Tythrop Turn Back Time, worthy champion. Very well coloured blue. Ultra feminine, narrow throughout. Feminine head, good neck & shoulder. Lovely narrow front, well ribbed back, real carrot tail. Great density to coat & very sound on the move;

2 Guvercin’s Ch Glebeheath Tea N’Tiffers, quality grizzle, more strongly built than 1. Beautifully presented, good head, super tight jacket, neat feet, good body length & moving soundly;

3 Pickering’s Picer Aimee Vilbert.

VB (3)

All three are a credit to their owners.

1 Int/Am/Can Ch Sulan Fancy That, 10 year old grizzle. Super condition for age. Feminine head, good reach of neck, excellent topline & tailset. Shown in good coat & moving well;

2 Yore’s Southash Cherry Bliss at Smurfski, 7 year old grizzle. Feminine head, lovely outline, super coat & pelt, well shaped tail. Nice size & moving well;

3 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Bayou Sunrise.
