BORDER EAST OF ENGLAND 10 Judge(s) MRS P MCLELLAN DCC CEDARHILL AUTHORIZED JW (MRS C DEAN) BORDER TERRIERS Thanks to exhibitors for the entry, which thankfully, was undercover on such a very hot day. I was surprised at the size of the Minor Puppy dogs, which were up to size at such a tender age. I was disappointed at the lack of foot and claw care on some exhibits – feet not properly trimmed and claws much too long for a working breed – or any breed shown at a Championship show. Shaved bellies are becoming more evident - why? It’s obvious and unattractive. There were too many single coated exhibits, and not enough clean ones. I was pleased with my winners. MPD (6, 1) 1. Girling’s Bennativo Stitch in Time. 8month puppy up to size, but in good condition. Typical head and expression. Needs to tighten up in front. 2. Brewster’s Stowthorney Swinging Sam. Smaller type than one in good coat. Would like to have seen more bend of stifle. 3. Gregory’s Dogmoor Gamblers Fool. PD (5, 1) 1. Horner’s Stineval Maraschino. Fit looking puppy of good construction, with correct amount of bone. In good coat, it moved out well. Good head with a strong jaw. BEST PUPPY DOG. 2. Sneddon’s Chesterton top Hat and Tails by Kersfell. Bigger dog than the winner with a pleasing head, good eye shape and colour and good ear set. Shown in harsh jacket but not as positive on the mover as the winner. 3. Barrett’s Howthwaite Catch the Breeze. JD (7, 2) 1. Higham’s Comberdown Jailbreak to Vandermere. Grizzle dog in fit, hard condition with a harsh jacket. Good head, length of neck and clean shoulders. Showed a level top line and good tail set on the move. 2. Watson and Kenna’s Brumborder River Explorer at Cynetkoy. Not as positive on the move as the winner. Presented in a good harsh jacket. Pleasing head onto good reach of neck. Correct dentition. 3. Carcass’s Bushbuster Boo Gee Knight. GD (7, 2) 1. South’s Borderella Day Tripper J.W. Biggish male, well presented in good coat. Moved out well with level topline and correct tail set. Lovely expression on typical Border head; good dark eye, correct ear placement and correct dentition. 2. Newsome’s Kighill Mister Clooney. Dark grizzle dog in hard condition and although very similar type to the winner I preferred the head of the winner. 3. Peacock’s Ragatam Let’s Go. PGD (3) 1. Harris’s Nickeltweed Let’s Go Joe. Grizzle dog with good bone, a good parallel front and strong hind quarters. Pleasing head and expression. Liked his dark eye and neat earset. Correct dentition and bite. 2. Peacock’s Ragatam Let’s Go. Presented in good condition but would like to have seen more rear muscle tone. Liked his head and expression. 3. Pateman’s Lessien Dinx Boy Oberon. LD (14, 5) 1. Mitchell’s Ragatam Joker at Paleside. Masculine red dog with super head and expression. Not overdone in any way. Good reach of neck flowing into great topline and tail set. Good dark eye and perfect scissor bite in a strong jaw. Had the tightest of jackets and was one of the best movers of the day. R.C.C. 2. Price’s Oxcroft Rackit. Slightly smaller exhibit than the winner, but again in good coat and the typical head one expects from this kennel. He didn’t move out as positively as the winner. 3. Elspeth and Jean Jackson’s Clipstone Tailor. OD (11, 4) 1. Dean’s Cedarhill Authorised JW. Quality dark grizzle dog, put down in superb condition. Correct size with a great head and typical expression. Good reach of neck onto clean, well angulated shoulders and when on the move he was driving well and parallel from strong well muscled hind quarters. Level topline and correct tailset which he held on the move. Pleased to see him pulled out in the last six of the terrier group. DCC & BoB. 2. Lee’s Tythrop Tapas. Another dog put down to perfection and similar remarks apply as to the winner, but I preferred the overall balance of the winner. 3. Patchett’s Chase Me Kato at Thorpe. MPB (11, 4) 1. Rayner’s Stoneygin Amazing Grace. Lovely feminine headed grizzle of correct size and sporting a harsh coat. Nicely shaped eye, good scissor bite and well set on ears. Neat well trimmed feet. Her hind movement needs to improve. 2. Aldous’ Othamcourt Snow Bunting at Twigglestone. Another nice headed grizzle bitch in a correct coat, moving with a level top line and good tail set. Similar type to the winner. 3. Green’s Benattivo Red Sky. PB (12, 3) 1. E and J Jackson’s Cobstoneway Moon River at Clipstone. Well constructed quality bitch with enough bone, shown in super condition with a harsh jacket and a thick pelt. Moved out well with a lovely outline. One to watch out for. BEST PUPPY. 2. Horner’s Stineval Santina. Not as mature looking as the winner, but another quality puppy shown in very good condition. 3. Barrett’s Howthwaite in Violet. JB (10, 2 abs) 1. Docwra’s Bandicoot Jazz: Dark grizzle bitch with a good scissor bite, head and expression. Nice reach of neck, parallel front and clean shoulders into level topline held on the move. Good tail set. 2. Duxbury’s Ravenside Ma Biche at Ridgebow. Heavier type to 1. Pleasing head and expression. Good jacket and thick pelt. Moved better in front than behind. 3. Roberts’ Smalesmouth Mylady. GB (7, 2) 1. Johnston & Pearson’s Rexlands Golden Plover by Karison JW. Attractive grizzle bitch of good size and good bone, not overdone. Shown in hard jacket and she moved out well. 2. Watson & Kenna’s Mascani Daisy at Cynetkoy. Similar type to the winner. Just preferred the outline of the winner on the move. 3. Hollingsbee’s Otterwood Blueberry. PGB (15, 1) 1. Morgan’s Sextonmagic Tamarind at Taralyon. Stylish red bitch with a lovely feminine head and expression. Although shorter bodied than some in this class she was in proportion and balanced. 2. Fletcher’s Vallemoss Matilda May. B/t bitch of similar size to the winner. Good bone, with a pleasing head and expression. In good coat. 3. Norris’ Cast a Spell over Brookbank. LB (17, 4) 1. Mitchell’s Ragatam Jasmine at Paleside. Up to size red bitch with one of the tightest jackets of the day. Super head and expression. Good reach of neck into clean well angulated shoulders. A good level topline on the move from well constructed hind quarters and a well set on tail. 2. Johnstone’s Karison Kamelia JW. Another very stylish bitch shown in great condition. Lovely feminine head and expression. Well placed ears, good reach of neck into clean shoulders. Super level topline on the move and really drove away round the ring. Balanced construction and she showed her socks off. BCC. 2.Clark’s Ch Southash Betty Boo Gameway. Another lovely, quality blue and tan bitch with correct ticking through the coat. Similar remarks apply as to the winner but I preferred the balance of 1. RBCC. 3. Judge & Thompson’s Plushcourt the Bees Knees in Thoraldby. Pat McLellan |
