Border Terriers

My thanks go to the exhibitors who provided an excellent entry in spite of the appalling weather conditions in many parts of the country recently, and the almost inevitable problems to be expected on the M6 motorway. Good quality dogs were present in most classes and I was pleased with both line ups for the CC’s. Coats were generally pretty good with just a few taken out for that ‘other show’, and one or two soft coats. I found movement again a problem with a good percentage knitting or pinning at the front, and a lack of drive from the rear. The open dog and junior bitch classes were of the highest quality and some excellent exhibits went away cardless.

MPD (19,4)

1 Scale’s Doramil Crimestopper. Nicely made red grizzle, lovely head and expression, neck and shoulders, good rib shape, narrow construction.

2 Jenkins’ Badgerbeck Pablo. Excellent blue and tan coat and pelt, good narrow front and body, lovely tight feet, moved with plenty of drive.

3 Joyce’s Bandicoot Rock’n roll.

PD (10)

1 Docwra’s Bandicoot Double Take. Lovely handsome puppy. Good head, neck and shoulders, good straight front, good size, narrow all through. Rich red grizzle double coat of correct texture, well muscled, moved well. Best puppy.

2 Brewster’s Stowthorney Swinging Sam. Very similar to 1, in fact I thought they may be litter brothers, (they are by the same sire), same comments apply but not quite as steady on the move. That can change in time. Two very nice youngsters worth watching in the future.

3 Mudd’s Tenacious Theobold of Ironfield.

JD (14,4)

1 Sneddon’s Chesterton Top Hat And Tails By Kersfell. Presents workmanlike picture without exaggeration, a good border head and expression, good neck, clean shoulders, narrow straight front, correct length of back and well set tail, good angulation at the rear, good coat and pelt, moved true front and back driving well from behind. Res.CC.

2  Wallace’s Hobholt Helmsman. A happy character built well on narrow lines, lovely head and excellent coat. Didn’t move as well as 1 at the front.

3 Horner’s Stineval Maraschino.

YD (5,2)

1 Higham’s Comberdown Jailbreak to Vandermeres. Eye catching, quality dog of a lovely size, good strong head and expression, narrow build with good front, excellent coat and loose pelt, covered the ground very well.

2 Tomkin’s Hedgebank Fraxinus Exel. Good red grizzle coat and pelt, nice head, a little round in the rib and front could be narrower. Moved ok.

3 Ellis’ Blues Boy.

PGD
(15,4)

1 Cobbledick’s Laurelton Moonlight Cowboy. Smallish (but not too small), nicely made, excellent double coat, good length of back, tail well set, best mover in class.

2 Baird’s Dowgri Diggory. Shown in excellent full coat, body of correct proportions with well angulated rear end, he appeared to be a little upright in upper arm on the table but on the move looked perfectly ok.

3 Hodgson’s Solitary Mist.

LD
(9,4)

1 Lowry’s Ravenside Ballymoss. Good head, well constructed and a nice size, moved very well, good double coat, tight feet. A good quality border.

2 Gilpin’s Otterbobs Riggindale. A really handsome masculine dog, very well put together, narrow all through, tidy front, excellent angulation front and rear, moved true and with drive. What a pity he was out of coat.

3 Mitchell’s Ragatam Joker at Paleside.

OD (11)

An excellent class, some top quality dogs went away cardless.

1 Wallace’s Ch.Hobholt Harrier. Beautifully constructed racy dog. Excellent masculine head, lovely reach of neck and correct length of back and tail set, straight front properly angulated, correct shoulders and ribs, nicely angulated at back, excellent double coat. Strides out well. A proper dog. CC and BOB.

2 Sneddon’s Kersfell Comet. Smaller than 1 and a little shorter in the back. Good double coat and pelt, lovely head, good angulation, excellent on the move.

3 Thomas’ Ch. Byrons Greengrass.

MPB (28,7)

1 Scale’s Doramil Camorra. Litter sister to the MPD winner. Feminine head and expression, excellent red grizzle coat, neck and shoulders, good in size, narrow build with good backline and tailset. Moved very well.

2 Shephard’s Brookbeach Blue Lass. Lovely head, nicely made, well angulated at the back, excellent harsh top coat and correct undercoat, moved very well.

3 Moss’ Vallemoss’ Drama Queen.

PB (14,3)

1 Lewis-Clarke’s Riverteign Ripple. Beautifully constructed lively showgirl, liked her head and expression, excellent double coat, good at front and back, good in outline.

2 Robert’s Badgerbeck Fiasco. Well made red grizzle, narrow all through, good back line and tail set, moved well.

3 Pickering’s Picer Hildora. Three very nice puppies.

JB (20,5)

Excellent class.

1 Barrett’s Howthwaite In Violet. Looked the real deal as she paraded around the ring with the others, lovely profile, feminine head, excellent front and shoulders, bone just right, properly shaped rib cage carried well back, excellent rear assembly, harsh blue top coat over good undercoat and pelt, moved true and with plenty of drive, held her back line. We’ve had some real top quality blue bitches in recent years and this one ranks with the best. CC.

2 Bladen’s Foxyard Better Behave at Emblehope. Another lovely blue and tan, very well made on narrow lines, good head, excellent coat and pelt, not as good on the move as 1 today.

3 Johnson’s Biddestone Poppyseed By Quarryway.

YB (16,3)

1 Higham’s Ir. Ch. Comberdown Rosalie. Super coat and pelt, lovely head, narrow build all through, nice tight feet, kept a good topline on the move.

2 Robert’s Smalesmouth Maylady. Another good blue bitch. Racier in type than 1, lovely neck, front and shoulders, nice and narrow throughout and well angulated at the back.

3 Pickering’s Picer Grace Darling.

PGB
(10,3)

1 Dean’s Digmoor Kindred Spirit for Tyrian. Red bitch in good double coat. Well made on narrow lines, attractive reach of neck into good shoulders, moved well.

2 Waldron’s Intack Blue Pearl. Attractive blue & tan. Good size, looked good in profile, excellent coat and pelt.

3 Williams’ Rhozzum Understudy at Sarsen.

LB (19,5)

1 Thomas’ Benattivo Gem Stone for Daluce. Thought highly of her last time I judged but her head needed to mature. She has now developed into an excellent bitch and her head is much improved. Super coat & pelt, a lovely size and well constructed with good front and shoulders, properly shaped rib cage, nicely angulated at the back. Among the best movers on the day. Close thing in the final line up.

2 Sharp’s Rhozzum User Friendly. Liked her a lot. Moved like a train, driven by that well angulated rear assembly. Racy outline, narrow build, lovely head and good coat.

3 Shephard’s Didillybods Forest Sprite.

OB
(11,4)

1 Higham’s Ch. Ir. Ch. Comberdown Ciara. Quality bitch presented in tip top condition, super head, excellent coat, lovely in outline, straight front, good shoulders and neck, nicely ribbed and angulation just right at the back, moved true front and back. RCC.

2 Dean’s Yeomeadow Heather for Tyrian. Never still, always on the look out for trouble, this lovely blue bitch must be a nightmare to handle. To the eye she has a lovely compact build, of excellent size, good head, front, and ribs, back of the correct length, good tail set and hind angulation just right. In super coat she moved very well once settled.

3 Judge, Judge & Thompson’s Plushcourt the Bees Knees in Thoraldby.
