BORDER LEEDS 10 Judge: Mrs F A Somerfield Border Terriers A good entry with lots of quality Borders in both sexes. It was the last time I shall judge the breed at this level & I enjoyed every minute. It was particularly pleasing to see how much movement had improved since the last time I judged. MPD (2) 1 Wallace’s Hobbolt Helmsman, little more forward in coat than 2, well coupled with nice neck, shoulders, front, legs & feet, good skull & eyes, very good teeth; 2 Robinson’s Hollinholme Huntsman, liked eyes & muzzle, basically well made. Can tighten in feet. Both still a little weak in hindquarters but 1 had the edge in front. PD (5,3a) 1 Sneddon’s Chesterton Top Hat And Tails by Kersfell, nicely balanced head, good neck, shoulders & front, nice topline. Could be little better coupled; 2 Spencer’s Cobstoneway River Magic, pleasing head, muzzle & eyes, nice bone & ribs, good coat texture. Could be little better muscled & 1 had edge in shoulders. JD (10,2) 1 Higham’s Comberdown Jailbreak to Vandameres, lovely coat & condition, nice strength in jaw, good neck, shoulders & front, pleasing topline & tail, good firm hindquarters, very good legs & feet, moved & showed well; 2 McPherson’s Brumberhill Blue Tempest, good head & eye, made on very good lines, nice racy quarters & moved with drive. Can strengthen a touch in pasterns; 3 Williams’ Hollomoor Final Choice. ND (4,2) 1 C Top Hat And Tails by K; 2 Bailey’s Eltonfurze Pringle, typical expression, nice turn of hindquarters. Not front of 1 & could be little better coupled. PGD (17,4) 1 Harrison’s Iacheslei Cantus, very well balanced, pleasing head & eyes, good neck, shoulders & outline, nice front, legs & feet, good hindquarters; 2 Haughton’s Chorbeck Moonlight Shadow, good eyes, pleasing coat & condition, nice strong hindquarters, good limbs & feet; 3 Fawcett’s Carrock Clayton. LD (14,4) 1 Irving’s Dandyhow Beeline, very pleasing, well balanced, delightful temperament, particularly good mover, nice for head & size, good neck, shoulders & topline, well made hindquarters, good coat & condition. CC; 2 Mitchell’s Ragatam Joker at Paleside, neat, nice size, pleasing head & eyes, nice bone, legs & feet, good tail & hindquarters, good coat texture; 3 Gilpin’s Otterbobs Riggindale. OD (14,1) 1 Wallace’s Hobbolt Harrier, very good dog, excellent head, good neck, shoulders & front, well made hindquarters, good coat texture & condition, moved soundly. Not most enthusiastic of showmen & in the challenge I thought he was going to fall asleep which spoiled his chances. RCC; 2 Thomas’ Ch Byrons Greengrass, also liked him very much & he showed & moved very well, good outline & balance. Not as good in coat; 3 Clark’s Ch Gameway Charles Dickens. MPB (10,4) 1 Hamilton’s Gameway Take A Bow, neat, feminine, pleasing head type, good topline & tail, nice firm hindquarters, good coat texture; 2 Norris’ Brookbank Tweed, well bodied, nice limbs, well developed thighs, full coat, moved & showed well; 3 Morgan’s Blewecourt Harlem. PB (17,9) 1 Barrett’s Howthwaite In Violet, lovely puppy made on very good lines, typical head, good eyes & ears, pleasing neck, shoulders & topline, good coat & condition, moved & showed well. BP; 2 Lorraine’s Seymours Bubble And Squeak for Raleniro, neat, good neck & shoulders, moved out well. Preferred balance of 1; 3 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Bayou Sunrise. JB (15,4) 1 Duxbury’s Ravenside Ma Biche at Ridgebow, very pleasing uncomplicated bitch who did her best, pleasing neck, shoulders, front, legs & feet, nice coat; 2 Johnson & Williams’ Biddestone Poppyseed, liked very much & was good to go over. Lacked a little ‘flow’ on the move. Feminine, good tail, nice coat condition; 3 Pearson & Snowden Hayes’ Germanus Red Hot Poker. NB (12,1) 1 G Take A Bow; 2 Armstrong’s Carrickfarm Mika, very nice expression, good hindquarters, pleasing coat, moved happily; 3 Roslin-Williams’ Mansergh The Canny Granny. LB (15,4) Very good class. 1 Thomas’ Benattive Gem Stone for Daluce, lovely, quality all through, good head, eyes & ears, pleasing neck, shoulders, topline & tail, good hindquarters, very good mover, showed steadily & with character. Not in best coat but texture was there. CC & BOB; 2 Fray’s Grindelvald Miss Teak at Eltonfurze, also very pleasing, good head & ears, very good bone, legs & feet, nice outline, well bodied with good ribs, well made hindquarters, moved & showed well. RCC; 3 Sugars’ Foxcraig Magic. OB (10,1) 1 Fraser & Butler’s Wagtail Lass via Ycart, well bodied, good head, used herself well standing & moving, nice racy quarters, very good coat & condition; 2 Hunt’s Ottaswell Carmen, very nice body, neat front, legs & feet, looked well on the move with good neck & shoulderline. Topline could be little firmer; 3 Roslin-Williams’ Mansergh Speckles. |
