BORDER JUDGE LEEDS 12

Border Terriers

We were allocated a large ring, conveniently placed for the wet weather tent, although fortunately we did not need to make use of this facility as the weather was good with only a few spots of rain – a nice change during this rather poor summer.

MPD (7)

1 Hollingsbee’s Otterwood Cyrus, nice size grizzle dog of nearly 9 months, good head with a nice length of skull, lovely neck & shoulder, narrow body easily spanned, neat feet, good coat, balanced outline, moved very well;

2 Guvercin’s Gleveheath Jump he Gun, 7 months bl/t with a lovely head, dark eyes with good expression, lovely big nose, good length of body, nice neck & shoulders, in very good coat with a thick pelt, moved very well;

3 Wallace’s Hobholt Hallmark.

PD (5)

1 O Cyrus;

2 Duxbury’s Keycahrm, Phantom by Ridgebow, well grown dark grizzle with a very strong head, front movement was better than rear. Quite a heavy dog & I found him difficult to span. Superb coat & thick pelt;

3 Sykes’ Asplands Take Five.

JD (5)

1 Roberts’ Derwenthow Basil Brightberry, quite a tall grizzle dog with a lovely skull & expression, good neck & shoulder, lovely outline to body, narrow & easily spanned, comes up light in the hand. Rather long in tail. Good coat, moved well in profile. Hind movement could be better;

2 Johnson’s Karison Kranberrie, grizzle dog with nice head & expression, small ears. A little lacking in confidence, but moved well. Nice size, easily spanned, came up light to the hand. Coat was just past its best;

3 Cracknell’s Chatmoss King Orrey.

PGD (13)

1 Haughton’s Chorbeck Charlie Chaplin, light red dog with a strong head. Would prefer a little more length to muzzle & less stop. Carrying a full coat of good texture with a dense undercoat & thick pelt. Looks heavier than he is & was surprisingly easy to span, straight front, clean shoulders, nice hind angulation, moved extremely well both coming & going & in profile;

2 Dickinson’s Ragatam Newmarket at Badgerholme, smart grizzle dog with a good head& expression. Good coat, but pelt could be thicker. Moved very well;

3 Waldron’s Intack Red Admiral.

LD (5)

1 Guvercin’s Dandyhow Jumping Jack at Glebeheath, handy size grizzle dog with good head & expression, straight narrow front, well balanced throughout, good legs & feet, nothing overdone in any way, narrow in body, easily spanned, beautifully turned out in a good coat & thick pelt, moved really well. CC;

2 Duxbury’s Ravenside Hurricane Run at Ridgebow, bigger type of dark grizzle dog with a strong head, very good coat & pelt, good topline. Front could be narrower. Rear movement OK;

3 Taylor’s Foxthorn Mcvicar.

OD (2)

1 McPherson’s Brumberhill Blue Tempest, bl/t with good head & nice length of skull, harsh coat & thick pelt, carrying more condition than when I have judged him before & it suits him, very nice outline, moved well particularly in profile. RCC;

2 North’s Northborders Mr Pickles, strong head, good enck & shoulders, narrow throughout. Not quite the balance of the winner. Good coat & pelt. Hind movement rather erratic.

VD (1)

1 Hardman’s Bonosue Ozymandias, 10 years grizzle dog with a good head & expression, nice for size, decent coat, moved well. BV.

MPB (9)

1 Duxbury’s Ridgebow Amberwitch, 7 months grizzle bitch with a lovely head & expression, nice angulation both ends, good neck & shoulders, nice body shape, in good coat with thick pelt, moved really well;

2 Lee’s Asplands Astrad for Tythrop, 7 months dark grizzle puppy at her first show, good head & lovely expression, nicely placed neat ears, excellent coat & pelt, beautiful neck & shoulders, really good angulation at both ends, lovely body shape, good legs & feet, finished off with a very good tail, moved well. Very close decision between two very nice prospects;

3 Wallace’s Hobholt Heiress.

PB (6)

1 McPherson’s Brumberhill Bejewelled, 10 months grizzle in a full coat of good texture with thick pelt, very attractive head, lovely eyes & expression, nice length of neck flowing into excellent shoulders, lovely topline. Looks heavier at first glance than she actually is & underneath she has a lovely body shape. Very well constructed puppy & an excellent mover from all angles. BP;

2 Milton’s Baillieswells Lochindaal, very attractive dark grizzle, smaller type & not as mature as 1. Super harsh coat & thick pelt, beautiful neck & shoulders, good in topline & underline, very attractive head & expression with good ear carriage, moved really well in profile with drive from hindquarters. Still a little loose in front which is not helped by her looking up at her handler. A very happy showgirl & a close decision between 1 & 2;

3 Foster’s Manorcroft Spin A Wish.

JB (8)

1 Haughton’s Chorbeck Little Miss Pickle, grizzle bitch with a lovely head & expression, harsh coat & thick pelt, narrow & spannable, good topline, finished off with a well shaped short tail, moved very well;

2 Lee’s Tythrop Time Flies, well constructed grizzle bitch with a very good coat & pelt. A shade bigger than 1. Head developing nicely, good eye & expression, nice shape all through, level topline, finished off with a well shaped short tail. Moved well, but not completely at ease. Both 1 & 2 had good fronts, an attribute which is sadly lacking in some exhibits;

3 Lockley’s Chatmoss Chelsea Girl.

PGB (9)

1 Hayes’ Merumhor Suzy Snowflake of Lexmar, bl/t of excellent colour, harsh topcoat & thick pelt, lovely head & expression, strong muzzle with big teeth, lovely neck & shoulders, super body shape which was narrow & easily spanned, nicely angulated hindquarters which she used to advantage on the move;

2 Fryer’s Irton Enigma, red in very full coat which appeared to be ready for removal & rather spoiled her outline. Very nicely constructed underneath all the coat, but would prefer more body condition. Very strong head, moved really well with excellent drive;

3 Smith & Watts’ Markrich My Mayur.

LB (9)

1 Lee’s Tythrop Touch On Wood, classy light grizzle with lovely head & expression, strong jaw & big teeth, excellent coat & pelt, lithe narrow body, easily spanned, nice length of neck into well laid shoulders, good topline, good legs & feet, moved well especially in profile in this class. Just did not quite go as well in the challenge. RCC;

2 Mooney’s Chesterton Honeymoon, smaller type of light grizzle bitch, not as strong in head as 1 but nice dark eye & expression. Well constructed & balanced, excellent coat & pelt, super outline, superb movement, really free striding;

3 Sharp’s Rhozzum User Friendly.

OB (5)

1 McPherson’s Brumberhill Bonjour, quality light grizzle bitch with a good head & expression, good length of skull, nice length of neck leading into excellent shoulders, narrow straight front, well balanced bitch, lovely outline, narrow throughout & easy to span, lovely topline, excellent harsh coat & good pelt, in superb condition, excellent mover & really covers the ground well in profile. CC & BOB;

2 Maltby’s Stoneygin Dollymixture at Pherjan, bl/t with very good coat & pelt, good head & expression, nice neck & shoulders, narrow front, very nice balanced outline, moved well;

3 Wildey’s Ch Bramblebrae Violet at Shiftyfox.

VB (2)

1 Hardman’s Bonosue Queen Of The Nile, 13 years grizzle with an excellent coat & pelt, good head, lovely outline, still has a narrow straight front. Front movement was better than rear.
