BORDER NATIONAL TERRIER 24 Judge: Miss E J Jackson BORDER JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 24 Thanks to the National Terrier Club for their invitation to judge at this prestigious show and to the exhibitors who did me the honour of judging their dogs. I was lucky to have two efficient stewards who kept things running smoothly, thank you Laura and Dave. The entry showed a good depth of quality. In many classes the places were hotly contested with decisions needing to be made on the narrowest of margins. I was very pleased to find that there were some good coats on thick pelts and the nice thick short tails which set off a good border so well. 1 Swain Borderrush Clementine For Ardenholm Lovely balanced body proportions on this feminine grizzle bitch. Good in neck and shoulder with straight front. Easily spanned. Shown in a good coat. Moved out well. Was thrilled that she went on from BSB to BSBIS. 2 Bradstock Onthill Daydream Believer At Forestacre Honest grizzle bitch of good overall type presented in tight harsh coat on a decent pelt. Pleasing head of good proportions with broad skull and neat ears. 3 Clements Howthwaite Times Gone By. I do love my veterans and this class did not disappoint. 1 Stevens Ch Cobstoneway Love Song JW ShCM Feminine 9 year old pleasing in head with strong muzzle, good dark eye and neat ears. She is fit for her age and moved out well keeping her level top line. She is spannable and good for size. One of those mentioned in the preamble with a good carrot like tail. BV. 2 Baxter Mysulan Going Solo JW VW Eye catching 9 year old whose looks do not betray his age. Good in neck, narrow in front and throughout. He is up on the leg and covered the ground well. Pushed the winner hard but just preferred her head and tail. 3 Pinkham Puzzlers Hope Full Hattie At Broadsmill. 1 Lowry Ravenside Rasputin Very promising 8 month old grizzle and tan with everything in the right place. Masculine head, good neck and shoulders, good in body with good rib and loin. Needs his coat to come to complete the picture. I will enjoy seeing how he matures. 2 Sharp Manorcroft True Statesman At Martifers Grizzle dog shown in a proper thick jacket. Pleasing in outline I liked his size and over all balance. Possesses a good masculine head with a good bite and dark eye. 3 Peacock Ragatam Master Dreamer. A class headed by two very nice puppies. 1 Baxter Mysulan Byards Legend Very smart youngster who really catches the eye. Good body built on racy lines. Pleasing in neck and shoulder with straight front. Masculine otter head with a broad skull, strong in muzzle with a nice dark eye. He moved out soundly to take the class. BPD 2 Gilpin Otterbobs Quiggins Another quality puppy built on the right lines with nice neck, good top line over good spannable ribs carried back to a strong loin. Super otter head of correct proportions. Would have benefitted from a little more jacket today. 3 Sharp Manorcroft True Statesman At Martifers. 1 Golding Beaconpike Caelus Presented today in the thickest of jackets and he has the body lines to carry such a coat. Built on racy lines he is balanced and narrow throughout. Good straight front and good quarters which he used well on the move to take the class. 2 Yates Bluebabel Border Song Masculine youngster with good body proportions, spanned well with ribs carried laid well back giving him a good topline. Pleasing otter head with strong broad muzzle. His coat needs to come. 1 Spafford Dassett Igglepiggle JW Smart masculine dog presented in super order. Super neck and good shoulder. Deep in body, ribs of good shape and pleasing loin. Good strong head with broad skull, strong muzzle and dark eye. 2 Joyce Goxfell Gotcha Lots to like about this balanced dog of good size with narrow ribs. Good top line with well-set tail over good quarters. Not quite as strong in head as the first. 3 Anderson Tyneotter Bolt From The Blue. 1 Peacock Ragatam Master Dreamer Tall young dog built on the narrowest of lines and pleasing in profile. Racy in outline he has a neck of moderate length, straight front and narrow rib. Shown in good coat. Lots of potential but needs some time to mature. 2 Brewster & Green Snowdell Snow Knight Among Stowthorney Stronger and more mature than one but built on good lines. He is big enough but his ribs are spannable and of good shape. Shown today in new tight coat. 3 Peffers Cedarhill Make A Wish For Roxellia. 1 Sneddon Ravenside Play The Game Kersfell JW Nicely sized balanced dog with a masculine head with keen expression. Good to go over he possesses a good neck of moderate length, good spannable ribs, clean front and a pleasing top line. Very active in the ring. Once he settled he moved well. 2 Swallow Howthwaite Godfrey To Otterbuck Smart dog showing off to the max in great condition with a good tight coat. Built on taller lines than the first, he has good body lines, is easily spanned and has a good loin. Preferred the stronger muzzle on the first. 3 Heathcote Fevstone Polar Ajax at Saxheath. 1 Pickerin Alcumlow Painter Man On Hobhill Strong headed masculine dog show in good jacket on good pelt. Good moderate length of neck, narrow in front, spannable rib and strong in loin. Good front and rear which he used well on the move. Presented in excellent order. 2 Brewster & Green Duke of York Fiery Lucifer To Stowthorney Built on similar lines to the first and gave me a difficult job to choose between them. Good neck and shoulder, ribs of good shape carried well back. Straight front and good quarters. On the move the first just had the edge in front. 3 North Foxfactor Spick ‘N Span At Northborders. 1 Girling Benattivo Charlie Brown Smart dog of super type. Shown in tip top condition with super jacket on a good pelt. Good for bone and stands well on good tight feet. Super strong otter head with strong muzzle, broad skull, dark eye and neat ears giving him a masculine expression. He is balanced throughout and moved well using good well-muscled quarters. 2 Stevens Cobstoneway Stand By Me JW Quality dog who comes to hand well. Narrow throughout he has spannable narrow ribs carried well back to good loin. Neck of good length and nice top line and tail set. Shown to advantage in good order. 3 Irving Dandyhow Postman Pat. What a super class of quality dogs in all the placings and beyond. 1 Taylor Barkanellie Blackadder Balanced masculine dog of excellent type shown in tip top condition, well-muscled and in good double coat of correct texture on a thick pelt. He caught my eye going around and did not disappoint on the table. He is good for size with narrow ribs carried well back to a strong loin giving him a pleasing top line finished by a short thick tail well set on. Racy behind with good angulation. Moved soundly. In very tough competition, his super otter head just gave him the edge both in his class and in the challenge for BOB. DCC & BOB. 2 Horner Ch Stineval Lambert JW Another quality dog presented in super fettle with good double jacket on thick skin. He has a lovely reach of neck, good shoulder and super rib, strong loin and racy muscular quarters which he used well going around the ring. Good for size and balance. A tough decision between him and the first but he easily took the RDCC. 3 Gilpin Ch Otterbobs Tolson. 1 Alpe Pipruda Perfect Storm Pretty feminine youngster with lots of potential. Liked her length, bodylines and overall balance. She is a good size and possesses narrow ribs of a good shape. Good top line completed by a lovely tail. 2 Sutton Pipruda Peppermint Patty At Beckholm Litter sister to the winner and pushed her hard. Like her sister she is balanced and good in body with spannable ribs well laid back to a decent loin. A good coat completed a nice feminine outline. 3 Peacock Ragatam Daydreamer. 1 Gregory Remony Rose Gold Quality, feminine grizzle and tan puppy. Super neck, good shoulders, pleasing top line with well-set short tail. Good in front, spannable correctly shaped ribs, good loin and racy hind quarters. An overall balanced picture was finished off with a good thick double coat. BP. 2 Oakman Wreakevalley Flighty Miss Narrow bitch built on racy lines. Good for size she has a moderate neck, good shoulders and is of good length allowing for her narrow ribs to be well laid back. Shown in good order with a good double jacket. Not as settled on the move as first. 3 Sansom Raedwulf Moonshine At Tarkaswell JW. 1 Guvercin Glebeheath Ophelia Nicely sized blue bitch pleasing in outline shown in good harsh coat. She has a straight front, good angulaton behind and stands on tight small feet. A good top line is complemented by a well set on short thick tail. 2 Oakman Wreakevalley Flighty Miss See 2 PB. 3 Hughes Arunmere Nighthawk. 1 Horner Stineval Sasha Nicely made grizzle bitch of good size with super top line and tail. Feminine head of good proportions with keen expression. Strong loin and well-muscled hind quarters. 2 Gilpin Otterbobs Beatrix JW Another grizzle bitch built on pleasing lines. Good for size with spannable rib of a nice shape. She was shown in excellent coat on a good pliable pelt. 3 Brewster & Green Stowthorney These Days JW. 1 Gregory Remony Rose Gold See 1 PB. 2 Sutton Pipruda Peppermint Patty At Beckholm See 2 MPB. 3 Peacock Ragatam Daydreamer. 1 Symons Olliesorchids Vintage Fizz Shown in good thick coat this girl has a decent neck of good length, good underline and pleasing top line with well set tail of correct length. She possesses an otter like head with a good muzzle and broad skull with neat ears. 2 Swallow Otterbuck Chicago Grizzle bitch whose coat was just coming in. She is of good size with spannable ribs, strong loin and well-muscled hind quarters. Liked her type and overall balance. 3 Malcolm, Glen & Knowles Liatch Tenacious. 1 Mitchell Haystoun Cosmic Dancer At Paleside Loved this blue girl’s type and size. Neck of moderate length, well laid shoulders, well let back ribs to strong loin and good hindquarters give her a pleasing balanced outline. A lovely double coat, on a thick pelt, completed the picture. 2 Phillips Brankell Angeleyes At Nantcoch Grizzle bitch of good size and overall good type with nicely shaped spannable ribs. Feminine in head with dark eye and attractive expression. She has a good jacket and thick pelt. 3 Peacock Ragatam Caol Ila At Baillieswells. 1 Harris Rockslade Ravishing Good bodied bitch with a lovely otter head with keen expression. She has loads of type and shows to advantage. She has a well-proportioned body with a strong loin and is well muscled throughout. Super tight double coat set on a thick pelt. 2 Pickering Picer Mirabel Ostler Attractive blue of good type. Nice length of body allowing spannable ribs to carry well back to a strong loin and good racy quarters. Level top line and with a well-set tail of good length. 3 Baxter Mysulan Rhapsody In Blue. Super class with quality right down the line and topped by two eye catching blue bitches. 1 Lee, Ch Wintergarden Bluestocking At Tythrop What a showgirl this bitch has matured into since I judged her last. Pleasing in head, she has an elegant neck of moderate length which flows into good shoulders and on to spannable ribs well carried back to a strong loin of good length. She has a pleasing top line and a thick tail of correct length. Her super blue coat is thick and harsh and set on an excellent pliable thick pelt. Moved around the ring as if she owned it. BCC. 2 Lee Ch Bohamer York’ist Celeste By Tythrop Being of similar breeding it is unsurprising that similar remarks apply as to the first. She is another lovely blue with a good tight double jacket on a good pelt. She comes to hand nicely being easily spanned. She has a straight front and nicely angulated hind quarters.
