BORDER RICHMOND 13 Judge: Mrs K M Irving (Dandyhow) BEST OF BREED : 1951 JENKINS Miss L M Badgerbeck Uncle Fester BORDER JUDGE RICHMOND 13 In my view the breed still has problems with movement, particularly front movement. Hind action in bitches was also poor on this occasion. There was some variation in coats and some were shown without much jacket but others were somewhat blown in coat. However there were several with excellent coats and pelts – such an important feature of the breed. Dentition and temperaments were very good. Because I don’t enjoy judging, and quite frankly never have, I decided before this appointment that is would be my last judging assignment. I hope that more younger Border Terrier enthusiasts will come forward as judges to ensure the successful future of the breed.
Veteran - Dog good size and body proportions. Scores in head and has a good skull and correct strong muzzle. Has an excellent coat and pelt which won him his place here. Moved quite well. 2nd - Hoary Morning (Mr T Wrenn & Miss K Langdon) taller dog with a pleasing head. Good outline. Moved out quite well but was not in as good coat as the winner. Minor Puppy - Dog quite a big puppy and long enough in body. Pleasing head and good eye and expression. Good outline and tailset. Correct shoulders. Still very immature and moved out better than the others in the class 2nd - Nookshot Nutcracker (Miss R C Newman) smaller dog with quite a strong head. Good skull with more stop and slightly bigger eye than 1 and short enough in foreface. Scored over the others here for coat 3rd - Foxpaw Pipps Cross (Mr P & Mrs H Fulker) Two very good puppies which made this a class of quality rather than quantity. Both had many virtues. 1st - Brackenfell Bok To Bach (Mr C Hall & Miss L Ellis) excellent head and expression with a good eye. Shown in the peak of coat condition. Very good in neck and toplline. He moved out very well in front and behind with drive and style. Ended up as Best Puppy in Breed. 2nd - Benattivo Betfred (Mrs S J & Mr C P Girling) another pleasing one with a good skull and correct head proportions. Good bone and correct shoulder and front. Good topline and tail. He too was shown in good coat and was very well presented. They were slightly different types but both made promising puppies. I preferred the expression of the winner. Junior - Dog blue and tan with a good head. Good length of body. Moved better in front than the others and was shown in full coat of good texture. 2nd - Kgills King Of Swing At Awbrooksky (Mr & Miss Goddard) a dog of good size which moved well behind. Shown in good coat and more attractive in head than 3 3rd - Bortino Red Emperor (Mr D K & Mrs D Martin) a dog with a pleasing and typical head with the correct proportions of skull and muzzle. Good neck and topline. Moved out and back very soundly and held his outline well on the move. Presented in immaculate condition. Well proportioned without being either too long or too short. Showed well here and went on to win DCC and BOB. I was pleased to hear that later in the day he was awarded Reserve Best Terrier in the Group. 2nd - Withershins Frankie (Mr M J Day) a pleasing headed dog with a good deal of breed type. Not the front of the winner. Good in tail and was shown in correct coat Post Graduate - Dog a dog with a pleasing head and expression. Handy size and well proportioned in body and legs. Good outline and a very typical Border. I felt that he just wasn’t putting all in today. 2nd - Digmoor Bankers Bonus (Mr M P & Mrs S V Regan) bigger type, with a good head. Being naughty in the ring but had good hindquarters and scored in head over 3. 3rd - Otterwood Cyrus JW (Mr M J & Mrs J M Hollingsbee) typical blue and tan shown in good coat and condition. Very well proportioned and of good size. Excellent topline and tail. Good enough in head. He moved out very well and showed well here. Went on to win RDCC. 2nd - Ottaswell Palamedes (Mr D & Mrs G M Hunt) a bigger dog with more length of body. Good skull and stands with a good reach of neck. Scored over 3 in front and moved out well. 3rd - Tufterslodge Good Move (Ms J M Woolacott) a dog with a good head and expression. Excellent coat and pelt and was presented in first class condition. Presents a good outline seen in profile. Very good tail of the correct shape and length. Good feet. The dogs that were ahead of him in the challenge here strode out better with a bit more drive. 2nd - Olderhill Afortunado (Mrs S Wilson) pleasing head with typical Border expression that is not exaggerated in any way. He was better there and in overall proportions than 3. Not as good in coat as 1. Because he is very good in shoulder he moved well in front, somewhat better there than behind. 3rd - Ir CH Comberdown Finnegan (Mr I & Mrs A Higham) good Border type with pleasing head. Good coat and moved out well for her age. Scored over 2 in head properties 2nd - Borderella Elsa (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman) excellent coat and pelt and still enjoying showing at nearly eleven years and a credit to her owner. Minor Puppy - Bitch very feminine youngster with an attractive head with good ears, good eye and pleasing expression. Good body proportions. Excellent coat. Moved well behind. 2nd - Orangebox Photo Finish (Mr M & Mrs T Anscombe) bigger youngster with more bone. Still very immature and needs to tighten up and finish all round to complete the picture. Puppy - Bitch a good sized puppy with correct body shape and proportions. Good topline. Pleasing head and moved out well behind. 2nd - Baillieswells Stronachie (Professor A S Milton) a nice sized and neat young blue and tan bitch with an excellent topline which she holds well when moving around the ring. Good skull and ears. She moved well coming and going and had good small tight feet. 2nd - Pops Blackcurrant Fizz (Mrs H J Cobby) similar type to winner, also blue and tan, OK for size and proportions. Pleasing head and expression. Not so good in front as the winner 3rd - Cedarhill Wish Upon a Star (Mrs C Dean) blue and tan, nice size. Good skull, good coat and pelt. Moved better behind than in front. 2nd - Glenmara Holy Song at Gameway (Imp) (Mrs T Clark) similar type good in hindquarters. Not quite the head and expression of 1. Showed to good advantage. 3rd - Rubyfin Kara Emerald (Mrs S J Channer) attractive red bitch with good head and typical expression. Good skull and pleasing in ears and eye. She moved soundly She was shown in excellent condition but I felt was not putting all in here today. 2nd - Tyrian Amulet (Mrs K Dean) pleasing in head and with good Border expression. Handy size. Moved out and showed well. Shown with more and better coat than 3 today. 3rd - Baywillow Brown Braid JW (Mrs G Hyslop) a typey bitch which moves very soundly in front and behind. Good Border head and expression without being overdone in any way. Has an excellent coat of good texture. She is good in outline and has a good tailset and correctly shaped tail. Good size and well proportioned. It was her movement and soundness in front and behind which took her to the BCC position today. 2nd - Sulan Look at Me (Mrs S J Baxter) pleasing in head but not in the same bloom as the winner and not quite so well proportioned in body. Well put together hindquarters and strode out well behind. 3rd - Foxfactor Cue The Music JW (Mr B J & Mrs K D Stockley) attractive red bitch which was well presented and was extremely feminine. Pleasing head, well proportioned in body without any exaggeration. Excellent topline. Moved out well. RBCC. 2nd - Cedarhill Rising Star At Brankell (Mr P & Miss K Brannan) very well presented bitch but with not quite the balance of the winner and not as upstanding today. Strong head and moves up and back well. Scored in coat over 3. 3rd - Bortino Smiling Queen (Mr D K & Mrs D Martin) Judge: Mrs K M Irving (Dandyhow) |
