BORDER JUDGE WINDSOR 22

I last judged the breed in 2017, so most of the dogs were new to me. I felt that the breed is losing that ‘otter head’ appearance, forefaces appearing to be too long. Poor front construction in many was a deciding factor in my placing. Our ring didn’t help, but the conditions were the same for everyone.

VD/B (4,1)

1 Holmes’ Ir Ch Barnby Caramel Wafer At Bimandi. Masculine boy in first class condition, he has a nice head with a good expression. Maybe carrying a touch too much body, good front and well made hindquarters. Correct tailset, in good coat with plenty of pelt. Moved soundly both ways. BV. Nice to see him take 2nd in a good Terrier Veteran Group.

2 Storm’s Ch & Int Ch Delin’s Blue Diamonds Burghley. Nice for size with a pleasing head, he has a keen and alert expression. Nice outline, straight front, good depth of body. Correct tailset, in good coat, lost out to one in front action, moves very well behind.

3 Windsor-Hichen’s Marizion May Flower At Ankietaz.

MPD (3)

1 Atkinson’s Raedwulf Nightfall. Good head and expression for his age, nice dark eye, good ear placement. Nicely balanced outline, straight in front but needs to tighten up in movement. Nice depth of body, in a good harsh coat. Showed well and moving soundly behind.

2 Brewster & Green’s Duke Of York Fiery Lucifer To Stowthorney. Blue/tan with a pleasing head, keen expression. Good neck and shoulders, lean well ribbed body. Correct tailset in good coat, needs to firm up in movement both ways.

3 Matthew’s Tojamatt Nightwatchman.

PD (4, 1)

1 Atkinson’s Raedwulf Daybreak. Litter brother to the winner of MPD and so very similar. He also has a nice shape with a good head and expression. Good neck, level back with the correct tailset. Good body, with well made hindquarters. In good coat and moved well for his age.

2 South’s Borderella High Tide. Not as developed in head as first, but should come with age. Good in neck and shoulders with a good depth of body. Nice turn of stifle, correct tailset. In a short coat, needs to settle in movement both ways.

3 Matthew’s Tojamatt Nightwatchman.

JD (5)

1 Goddard’s Awbrooksky Never Back Down. Lovely clean and balanced outline. Nice for size with a lovely head, dark eye with well placed ears and alert expression. Good reach of neck, well made shoulders and front. Good depth of body with correct ribbing. Well made muscular hindquarters and nice turn of stifle. Correct tailset and carriage. Spans easily, in good coat with a good pelt. Moves with a fluent driving action, shows all the time. Well deserved the CC and BOB.

2 Steven’s Cobstoneway Stand By Me. Nice for size and he has a good head. Good neck, a little wide in front, good depth to his body. Well made hindquarters with a good turn of stifle, correct tailset. In a nice coat, moves well behind and showed well.

3 Parsons’ Arunmere Midnight Cowboy.

YD (2)

1 Cox’s Grand Boy. Nice type, good for size and shape. I liked his head and expression. Good neck and shoulders with a straight front. Good depth of body and level back. Nice turn of stifle, correct tailset. In good coat and moves well both ways.

2 Parsons’ Arunmere Midnight Cowboy. Night type of dog but totally out of coat today. Nice masculine head and expression. He has a good depth to his body and well made hindquarters. Moves well both ways.

PGD (3, 1)

1 Freeman’s Cedarhill Front Of House. Nice for size, he has a pleasing head and expression. Good in reach of neck, good depth of body, nice turn of stifle. Correct tailset and clean outline. Won this class on coat and movement, he’s a confident showman.

2 Read’s Roxambor On The Dance Floor. Masculine head and expression. Good depth of body, could be a little narrower all through as this made his front a little wide. In a good coat and moves well behind.

LD (10, 1)

1 Taylor’s Barkanellie Blackadder. I liked his overall balanced shape, nice masculine head and expression. Good neck and shoulders, nice in front. Good depth of body with a level back, well made hindquarters and correct tailset. Quality coat and moved well both ways.

2 Sneddon’s Mara Oh Viedo At Kersfell. Very nice head and nice dark eye, keen expression. Straight in front, good depth of body and length. Good turn of stifle, correct tailset. In a good coat, moves well both ways and a good showman.

3 Haugh’s Skyeisla Blue Reflection.

OD (4)

1 Gilpin’s Ch Otterbobs Tolson. Very nice well known male. He is a nice sized dog with the correct type of head. Good neck, straight in front, good depth of body, spans well. Well made hindquarters, good tailset. In good coat and moved well. On the final walk round his tail carriage detracted from my idea of the finished picture. RCC.

2 McKay’s Ch Achouffe McKay’s Fable Of Redesholt. Masculine boy of a nice overall shape. Good head piece with well placed ears. Good in front, well made body, though a touch ‘weighty’. He has a good tailset, in quite good coat and a nice sound mover both ways.

3 Anscombe’s Kevrah Orion Seeking Orangebox.

GBD/B (4)

1 Heeley’s Thistlemead Harmony. Nice sized girl, she has a good outline and level back. Pleasing type of head, good straight front with a nice depth to her body. Good hind angulation and correct tailset. In good coat and condition.

2 Freeman’s Cedarhill Front Of House.

3 Channel’s Moor Farm Bellweather At Rubyfin.

MPB (3)

1 Oakman’s Howthwaite Gertrude. Nice for size, good expressive head with well placed ears. Clean outline, nicely made body for her age. In good coat, good pelt, a smart mover. Has plenty of time to fulfill her promise.

2 Pateman’s Fiery Lucifer Decent. Blue/tan with a rangey outline. Pleasing sort of head, but needs time to finish. Good in front, nice depth to her body and well made behind. Nice quality coat and moved nicely.

3 Matthews Tojamatt Lacemaker.

PB (7)

1 Aldis’ Torryburn Fidelity. I really liked this girl, she was all together for me. Good for size and shape at this age. Very nice head, dark eye and good expression. Good in neck and shoulder, straight front. Good depth of body, level back, nice turn of stifle. Correct tailset, in good coat, an ultra sound mover. BP.

2 Phillips’ Brankell Angeleyes At Nantcoch. Similar to first but not as finished yet. She has a nice head and expression. Nicely balanced outline, good body and turn of stifle. In good coat, moving nicely both ways.

3 Nettle’s Ceilloch Griffin At Onziemehurst.

JB (7)

1 Girling’s Benattivo Silver Flame. Blue/tan. Balanced shape. Very pleasing head, nice dark eye. Good reach of neck, clean angulated shoulders. Good depth of body, well made hindquarters and correct tailset. Quality coat of a good colour, sound active mover. I seriously considered her in the challenge for the RCC.

2 Heeley’s Thistlemead Scentsation. Clean in outline, pleasing head that still needs time to finish. Good straight front with a nice depth of body. Well made hindquarters. Good coat and plenty of pelt, moving nicely both ways.

2 May & Whisker’s Thistlestone Pumkin Pie. I liked her size and shape. Nice expressive head, narrowing body with good depth. Good turn of stifle, correct tailset. In a good quality coat, moves well behind, but would prefer a more positive front action.
