ENGLISH BULL JUDGE DRIFFIELD 14

Bull Terrier

Temperaments were, without exception, first class & this is the fundamental virtue of the breed. Make, shape & mouths were a very different story. My breed watch monitoring report to the KC records four dogs with misplaced lower canines, with a few others so tight that they made grooves in the gums above them & more than half of the exhibits had undershot or pincer bites. However, there were some top quality sound specimens too which were a pleasure to judge. I awarded a RBOS card instead of the RD ticket, detailed in my critique below.

MPD (0) PD (0)

JD (1)

1 Bunce’s Rubbise It’s Complicated, b/br/w, well boned with fairly good bodylines, strong head gently curved with roman finish, good eye placement & well used ears, slightly undershot, rear movement close, front loose, should improve with maturity.

YD (1)

1 Wannops’ Off The Charts at Charishalee, cobby white, well balanced, head has good profile, small well placed ears & dark slanting eyes giving pleasing expression, slightly undershot, movement fairly good both ways.

PGD (1

)1 Dysons’ Gorbain Hellraiser Tawnbarr, sound well constructed dog, predominantly brindle but with partial white collar, white chest & feet, powerful filled head of decent length, gently curved profile with roman finish, well placed eyes. I would prefer ears a bit more on top, broad muzzle & lower jaw with correct scissor bite. Moved with drive, very well in front, moderately behind. Lovely heavyweight dog with excellent temperament, a pleasure to judge, easily the best of the day. CC & BOB.

LD (6,1a)

1 Newberrys’ Ukusa Ricochet, b/br/w partial collar, nice neck set smoothly into shoulders, good topline & quarters, quality strong head with good profile, pincer bite, movement average;

2 Paterson’s Golitha Mystify, b/br/w well presented & shown, well built but short in front leg which spoils his balance, strong head with slanting eyes giving good expression, pincer bite, fairly good movement;

3 Pullen’s Louka Gone Racin.

OD (5,1)

1 Mathisons’ Ch Notorious Joker of Blazinbullys, attractive white dog, quality head, nice eye placement & well used ears, correct mouth, straight front, fairly good tailset moved well both ways & with drive. Each time this dog was set up for me to judge he stood with a marked slope of back & with his rear legs thrown out behind with almost straight stifles. He was correctly shown on a loose lead so I had to believe this stance reflected his rear construction. The dog’s merits persuaded me to award him RBOS, but a sloping back deviates too far from the standard for me to sign a RCC card which includes the words ‘of such outstanding merit’;

2 Mathisons’ Blazinbullys Dark Knight, b/br/w, fairly well built, good topline & tailset, quality head with good profile, eye placement & well used ears, rather straight in stifle, movement fairly good in front but the rear lets him down;

3 Young & Fennicks’ Next Generation at Bullyview.

MPB (4,2)

1 Kettleboroughs’ Bullysoul Little Darling, very immature white yet to spring her ribs, plain head at the moment, mouth just correct, movement untidy.

2 Smith’s Bullysoul Tainted Love, white with red ear markings, a little more developed than 1 but much more development needed, very bad mouth, movement untidy.

PB (0)

JB (4,1)

1 Foster & Bicker’s Bilboen Beyond The Stars, bl br w very good conformation, long arched neck set into good shoulders continuing into nice top line, good quarters & fair tailset. Strong quality head of good length with curve & fill, eye placement gives good expression, used ears well but I would like them more on top, scissor bite; moved well & with drive though needs to tighten, should improve with maturity. Lovely well presented & shown bitch, worthy CC winner.

2 McCanns’ Ukusa Vegas At Diton, quality white with straight front good top line & correct stifle, nice profile with good breadth of muzzle, dark eyes, correct mouth, I would like the ears more on top. Movement fair in front but rather close behind.

3 Salts’ Bonney.

YB (2,1)

1 Moore’s My Book Of Dreams r w nicely marked bitch with straight front & good quarters, a bit upright in front which spoils her neck & topline, lower tail set would be preferable, strong head with correct bite, ears almost on top, movement close behind & toes in slightly in front.

PGB (5)

1 Morgans & Wilson’s Romagna Drama Queen, nicely marked br/w, well built though rather long cast, head filled with lovely gently curved profile, well placed ears, scissor bite, eyes a little kind. Attractive bitch spoilt by her untidy movement;

2 Hodges & Sweetland-Hodges’ Bronygarn Autumnal Gold at Shwntarw, br/w partial collar, an attractive well boned bitch spoiled by her front construction which affects her topline & front movement, tailset correct, good head with correct mouth, eyes & ears fairly well placed;

3 Grainger’s Dixie Blue Pebbles.

LB (6,2)

1 Bloom’s Abenaki Romantic Destiny, good quality white, good conformation from straight front through to correct tailset, attractive filled head with well placed eyes & ears, scissor bite, movement fairly good both ways;

2 Hacketts’ Spartiate Pandora, b/br/w with partial collar, powerful bitch but I would like a lower tailset & longer front legs – short legs & too much weight make her movement untidy. Strong head with correct bite, eyes & ears fairly well placed;

3 D Blue Pebbles.

OB (8,2)

1 Ramshaw’s Dark Magic Touch, b/br/w full white collar though it includes a large patch on one side, white splashes on the body & white spreading round her quarters might disguise her quality to some. Well boned, balanced, powerful bitch from long arched neck, though smooth topline & strong quarters to correct tailset, long head filled & curved with scissor bite, nice expression, moved fairly well both ways with great drive. Pushed hard for the CC but had to settle for RCC;

2 Newberrys’ Bullytrips Hell’s Angel by Ukusa, b/br/w quality head, filled & curved with fairly good eyes but large ears set too far to the side of the head, correct bite. Good bodylines with nice neck set smoothly into shoulders & good quarters but marred by high tailset. Average movement;

3 Wilson & Stephens’ Alizarin Sugar Babe.
