ENGLISH BULL JUDGE WINDSOR 09

Bull Terriers

The males were rather a mixed bag & I felt my CC winner stood away, but there were plenty of excellent bitches, & three special ones. Rear angulation seems to be much better nowadays with the result that there is generally less toeing in & more drive, but fronts are so often disappointing with all too many bully or upright shoulders, often placed too far forward, steep upper arms & pasterns which turn out. A proprotion of untidy mouths with teeth out of line or a faulty canine, one or two with more serious faults. All had happy temperaments, though it’s irritating for spectators & those in nearby rings when the dogs bark continually. Why the fashion to run with your BT? Very few move at their best at that speed, being more suited to accompanying a brisk walk.

PD (2)

1 Sheppard & Howes’ Ragnarok Balder at Palanco, red, bit of a dilemma to start with, sadly his mouth is poor but taken as a whole I felt he was the class act among the pups. Good strong head, excellent eye & expression, super neck, straight front, shapely body, powerful well angulated hindquarters, sound mover. BP;

2 Barritt’s Romantacy Perfect Script, smaller neater brindle, OK head without quite the strength or eye of 1, scored on shortness of back, OK body for age, preferred pasterns & rear movement of 1.

JD (7,2a)

1 Walker & Clacher’s Odakotas Black Hawk, good all round b/br, scored heavily on overall balance which won him RCC. Handsome head, excellent neck & topline with flowing lines, short shapely body, excellent hindquarters, well set tail, sufficient bone, can tighten slightly in front, moved true behind & with drive, look forward to seeing him when maturity has filled him out;

2 Westwood’s Tulsadoom Abi Albon, very different type, huge powerful white with many virtues, power packed head, good eye, slightly strong in skull, very good bone & hindquarters, plenty of body, a touch heavy over the shoulders, turns his feet a little. Rather a laid back showman in contrast to 1 who was on his toes all the time;

3 Brown’s Meridianview Monkey Boy.

ND (0).

PGB (3)

1 Quinn's Padhen Abraham Of Lincoln, typy tri litter brother to RBCC & with the same excellent shape, OK head, excellent profile & expression, muzzle could be a shade stronger, clean neck & shoulder, short back, well angulated hindquarters, moved with drive, true behind, slightly narrow in front, could well be a slow maturer like his sister;

2 Dowell’s Dajan Magic Man, smart red, very good head & expression, OK bone, short back, sound hindquarters, enough substance, 1 scored on neck & shoulders;

3 Samways’ Bullbrit Big Bufalo at Hardysview.

LD (5)

1 CC, Leesley’s Ch Lydsyll’s The Untouchable, ultra typy white full of quality & personality, not a big one but dominates the ring, very well made & absolutely all of a piece, enough bone for size, classic outline, well set ears, super eye & expression, excellent arc & roman finish, perhaps could have a shade more fill. A real Bull Terrier;

2 White’s Stockleyview Dark Desire, vocal brindle, good strong quality head, plenty of scope, reachy neck, plenty of body, well made hindquarters, free active mover. Could be a touch more compact, feet could be tighter. Close decision with 3

3 Dobbin & Van Eck’s Buster Black Ears at Debully.

OD (4)

1 Ley’s Fortifer Fiammetta, attractive showy red, excellent head profile, eye could be a shade darker, well set ears, excellent neck & shoulders, shapely body, well bent stifles, free jaunty mover, feet could be tighter. Touch & go for RCC, marginally preferred balance of the junior;

2 Young’s Bullyview Screaming Eagle, classy quality white with a lot of scope, good well filled head without quite the dramatic profile of 1, short back, well made hindquarters, just preferred 1’s front angulation;

3 Rawlings’ Mapalee Espagnolette.

V (3,1)

1 Morgans’ Ch Romagna Memphis Belle, in wonderful form & condition, just the right amount of weight, has retained her quality head, so neat & well put together, moved really well & was still competitive in the challenge;

2 Malden’s Louka Lady In Red, smart showy red, like 1 enjoying being back in the ring, super condition, excellent bone & substance, quality head & eye, good topline. Not quite so compact as 1. Pity we don’t see more BTs in veteran classes, they enjoy it so much.

PB (2)

1 Martin & Hurst’s Yungwood Sweet Enchantment, scopy brindle, good head type, scored on neck & leg length, would prefer more front angulation, OK hindquarters, needs to tighten in front;

2 Twyman & Gardner’s Megaville Magic Star, substantial bitch, feminine well filled head, plenty of bone, strides out well, at this stage rather low to ground for her length of body, will look better if she comes up on leg a bit.

JB (7)

Very good class, quite a tussle between the first 4, will look forward to seeing them mature.

1 Roff’s Bobuddy Enigma, lovely bitch of super type & substance, top class head with fill, profile & expression, mature in body, powerful hindquarters. Not quite so good in shoulders & pasterns as eventual winners but I liked her overall picture a great deal, could well make up;

2 Draper’s Emred Zurie Par Albeada, very nice bitch of similar virtues to 1, super bone & substance, good arc, perhaps even more strength in head than 1, shapely body, well bent stifles, a touch upright in front, just preferred 1’s cleaner neck line;

3 Blair’s Terjo’s Here I Am at Megaville.

NB (7,2)

1 Karta’s Karmara Cause A Catastrophe, big strapping bitch like her dam, statuesque type, looks a picture standing, great bone & substance, head in proportion, reachy neck, like so many turns her feet a little. Topline not so good on the move as standing;

2 Carrick’s Chardaice Lovers Rock with Bullbrand, different type but very close up, smaller, neater, shapely, short back, feminine head, perhaps not quite the power of 1 but full of quality, feet could be tighter;

3 Monagahn’s Kellouacy Disco Diva at Justabully.

PGB (5,2)

1 Leesley’s Bullyview Sheer Bliss at Lydsyll, a real classical beauty, quality from head to toe, one I'd love to own. Smooth all over with no lumps or bumps, excellent head with lots of strength for such a feminine girl, super expression, clean neck & shoulder, powerful hindquarters. So close in the challenge, just let her topline sag a little at the crucial moment, her day must come;

2 Malden’s Louka Lady Luck, handsome head type, ears not so neat as 1, plenty of substance, well balanced, OK hindquarters, not quite so clean over the neck & shoulders as 1;

3 Jones’ Paper Moon.

LB (4,1)

1 Lambert’s Caliber Hoss Play, smart showy brindle, catches the eye with her showmanship, powerful head with good profile, big body, excellent hindquarters, short back, stands slightly wide in front, rather upright in pastern;

2 Taylor’s Ragnarok Fricka over Bilboen, brindle, her head is her fortune, excellent expression, good profile, eyes & ears, good hindquarters & topline, not so compact as 1, rather bully in front;

3 L Lady Luck.

OB (9,2)

Quality right down the line.

1 CC & BOB, Cox’s Ch Coxgal Oiche Angel, lovely tri, has the head type, substance & quality for a specialist & the style, character & movement for an all-rounder, tremendous profile, super eye & ears right on top giving her a superb expression not missing a trick, enough fill-up, super reachy neck, clean shoulders, immaculate front, shapely topline, good tail carriage, just the right hind angulation, shows like a bird & comes into her own on the move, remarkably true behind which her unusual hock markings emphasize, parallel in front too & has great reach & drive. Just the sort to catch the eye in a group, did so today with a G2 in toughest competition;

2 RCC, Sewards’ Padhen Precious Pearl, such a striking rich red, the ultimate outline, admired her earlier in the year but since then has filled out dramatically in both head & body & now looks the complete picture. Quality head, super expression, has the terrier breeder's rarely found ideal of an ultra short back combined with just the right angles, great showgirl. Hope she goes all the way now she's matured. Hardest of decisions, 2 is a shade more compact, 1 had slightly better feet & went truer behind. If only all were as well schooled as these two;

3 Tidball’s Llanwenarth Love Potion.
