CAIRN JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 25

I would like to thank the Officers and the Committee of Birmingham Dog Show Society for inviting me to judge this show and for their wonderful hospitality. It was a very good entry with just a few absentees, and I would express my thanks to the exhibitors for their entries. I was surprised to find a few incorrect mouths and very small teeth, but my main concern was the number of dogs who did not hold their topline on the move.

Special Beginners D (2)

1 Sinclair’s Tycadno Quick Shot, well coated wheaten with a strong masculine head, good stop, correct mouth, level top line, he moves with drive. A little proud of his tail when standing which spoils his outline.

2 Jones’s Corynthean Sunshine Boy, wheaten with well-proportioned head, neat ears, correct shaped eyes and good stop. Level top line which he held on the move. Carrying too much weight which made him look wide in front, he too was a little proud of his tail.

MPD (1)

1 Lucas & Tobutt’s Carradine Sir Percival, well balanced red brindle shown in good coat of correct texture. Nice head, neat ears, good stop and correct mouth. Clean shoulders, enough neck and level top line and a good tail set. Moves well in front but a tad close behind today but he has plenty of time. BPD

JD (5)

1 Felters & Rumens Landbuck Sabrage, up to size, eye catching grey brindle with harsh coat. Strong masculine head with broad skull, strong muzzle and jaw, with large teeth and correct bite. Straight front, lovely length of neck, well laid back shoulders, level top line and correct tail set. He moved well both ways and I was pleased to award him the CC which turns out to be his 3rd. Well deserved. DCC

2 Saich’s Lindcoly Golden Buick, well balanced red with a good head, deep stop, correct scissor bite and strong teeth. Good front and spring of rib, he moved ok and was another who held his top line on the move.

3 Parkin’s Mosspur Into The Shadows

PGD (2,1)

1 Sinclair’s Tycadno Quick Shot, as in SBD

LD (5)

1 Robert’s Cannwood Moonlight Shadow, well balanced wheaten brindle with an attractive head, neat ears and intense expression, strong jaw and correct scissor bite. Strong front, correct shoulders with level top line. He moved around the ring with ease and was considered in the line-up.

2 Griffiths Wonderpaws Obi wan Kenobi, wheaten with the best of heads and desired expression. Good stop, correct mouth with strong white teeth. Shown in top condition, he moves well and so attentive to his handler, a total showman. Close decision between these two but just preferred the overall size of the 1st

3 Thomas Tycadno Magic Man

OD (4,1)

1 Yates-Johnson’s Ch Pendley Seafarer, red brindle shown in full coat. Neat ears, defined stop, eyes of correct shape and colour giving an intense expression. Good neck, shoulders and front, level top line, held on the move, and good tail set. Where he excelled was in movement. He covers the ground so well, driving from behind and it was this that won him both the class and the RDCC

2 Waugh’s Ch Glenrood Galaxy At Tribannon, well balanced dark brindle who is of a larger type than the 1st. Broad skull, neat ears, good mouth, correct eyes with that desired expression. Nice lay of shoulders and correct front, level top line and good tail set. He gave his handler a hard time but once settled he moved with drive.

3 Munday & Munday’s Lentrica Mystic Warrior

VD (1)

1 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon Osw Jw Shcex Sh.cm, dark brindle with a good head, neat ears and an expressive expression. Shown in good harsh coat, he showed well and moved ok.

Special Beginners B (1)

1 Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Can’t Get Enough, wheaten with a lovely feminine head, neat ears, correct stop and good mouth. Nice length of neck, good shoulders and level top line. Moved well both ways. BSBIB

MPB (2)

Two very nice pups who could easily change placings many times in the coming months

1 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Sorrel, eye-catching wheaten with the desired dark points. She has the correct shaped dark eyes which just sparkle with devilment. Deep stop, correct bite with strong teeth. Level top line and lovely short, well set tail, she is so well balanced. Shown in profuse harsh coat she was full of mischief but, once settled, moved well for one so young holding her top line. BPB & BPIB

2 Hiam & Hartop’s Carradine Hazel Moon, well balanced feminine red with harsh coat. Neat ears, good stop, strong jaw and muzzle. Good front, shoulders, top line and tail set. She moved and showed well, it was a close decision.

PB (2)

Two litter sister who have a lot of the same attributes, it was hard to split them.

1 Firth’s Glenrood Silent Whisperer At Cairngold, wheaten with a good head and expression, deep stop, correct mouth with large white teeth. Correct front and shoulders with nice length of neck, level top line and good tail set. In very short coat but what was there is of correct texture. Moved ok

2 Dolan’s Glenrood It Has To Be Me, slightly larger made than her sister this striking red has a beautiful head with desired expression. She moved well, especially from behind but also in very short coat so, as she is taller when standing, this made her look more leggy and spoilt the overall picture.

JB (6,1)

A lovely class of very promising youngsters

1 Felters & Rumens Landbuck Amethyst, beautiful wheaten bitch that just oozes breed type. She has the best of heads, wonderful expression, good stop and strong jaw and mouth. Straight front, well laid-back shoulders, good spring of ribs and level top line she holds on the move. One of the best movers on the day. Her one drawback is she doesn’t always hold her tail but today she held it well on the move and did just enough with it when standing to win this strong class.

2 Thomas’s Tycadno Winter Star, wheaten bitch another with a head to die for, she has that intense expression that just spells trouble. Neat ears, good stop, strong muzzle with correct scissor bite. Level top line, short, neat tail, strong feet and lovelywell laid down hocks. I really liked her a lot. Today she gave her handler a hard time which affected her movement and cost her first place. Nevertheless, I’m sure she has a very bright future.

3 Petts Doonrae Ultra Violet

PGB (7,1)

1 Osborn’s Be Gin Again At Tweslam, striking silver with correct coat who took my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Very feminine head, deep stop, neat ears and strong muzzle with correct mouth. Loved her length of neck which flowed into correct shoulders, good front, level top line which she held on the move and correct tail set. Good feet and strong well-muscled legs she moved well both ways and presented such a beautiful outline when standing. RCC

2 Thomas & Jones Castleline Seren at Tycadno, wheaten with good coat, smaller type than the winner but very well balanced. Another quality bitch with a fabulous head. Neat ears, good stop, correct mouth and enough neck with level top line she kept on the move. Moved ok

3 Clarke’s Furythor Born To Sparkle By Lentrica

LB (6,1)

1 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Witches Promise, red brindle shown in full coat. Attractive feminine head with neat ears, good stop, correct shaped eyes and expression. Strong muzzle and good mouth. Not a big bitch but she is so well balanced, she moves so well driving from the back and holding her top line on the move. Thought she would be a contender for higher honours, but she got a bit giddy in the challenge.

2 Waugh’s Dazzel Me At Tribannon, beautiful feminine wheaten with a stunning head, neat ears, strong jaw and correct bite. So good to go over on the table, she has the best of fronts, lovely neck flowing into clean shoulders, good spring of rib, level top line and correct tail set. She was unsettled on the move but did eventually stride out but needs to use her tail more.

3 Osborn’s Tweslam Be Gin The Magic (Ai1)

OB (6)

1 Yates-Johnson’s Ch Pendley Sea Breeze, a stunning red brindle who is so well balanced she catches your eye immediately. Beautiful feminine head with that desired keen expression, neat ears, deep stop, strong muzzle and correct mouth. Nice length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, correct front, good length of body and strong well-muscled quarters, she presents a lovely overall picture. She moves so well both ways and is so in tune with her handler. Never stops showing. BCC & BOB

2 Parker-Tucker’s Birselaw Floral Dancer Of Uniqucottage, wheaten brindle, larger type than the 1st but balanced with good outline. Good head and expression, correct mouth. Clean neck and shoulders, level top line and correct tail set, she moved well both ways. A good honest bitch.

3 Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Can’t Get Enough

VB (3)

1 Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn At Gethlee, well-presented wheaten with good harsh coat. Nice head, small, neat ears, good stop and correct mouth with strong teeth. She is in tip top condition at 8 years of age and moved with drive. A credit to her owner BVIB

2 Metcalf-Saults’s Cannwood Call Me Aggie, another attractive wheaten, larger than the 1st but very similar in type. It was interesting to see these are full sisters from different litters. Same comments as above but she would benefit from losing some weight and did not move as well as her sister.

3 Saich’s Lindcoly Sweetest Oreo
