CAIRN JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 19

Thanks to my two very efficient stewards. Although the ground surface was good for seeing the dogs move, many bits of paper and other things had blown in and of course Cairns have to investigate everything don’t they? I allowed for this when considering movement. Temperament was fantastic, we are so lucky in our breed to have dogs who will kiss you as you examine them. It’s a shame we don’t have more young dogs and bitches coming through, doesn’t bode well for the breed in a few years’ time. It was lovely to see Feffie Somerfield watching my efforts from the ringside.

VD (1)

1 Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There and Back Again Under Macmoon Sh CM. 8 year old dark brindle, excels in head. Has a strong, well made body with good bone. Moved OK, very showy indeed. Best Veteran.

MPD (1)

1 Goud’s Vale of Atholl’s Itchy Fingers. Looking leggy at present but this male pup has plenty of potential. He has all the makings of a very typey Cairn. He has a very good front and shoulders and a level topline which he kept on the move. Has nice rear angulation. His coat is of the correct texture and when fully coated and has developed more in head he should look a picture. Moved well when settled. A good prospect.

PD (1)

1 Parker Tucker’s Uniquecottage Grey Borage. Cream, in full coat. Nice size. Good head with nice dark eye. Adequate neck and good layback. Straight front. Good bend of stifle with strong quarters. Moved true both ways.

JD (4, 3)

1 Felters and Rumens’ Landbuck Kingsman. I have admired this youngster from the ringside and he is certainly maturing into a good Cairn. A well balanced red brindle with a lovely masculine head and correct eye in both shape and colour. He has a good front with adequate brisket and strong neck flowing into clean shoulders. His tail set is spot on. Presented in full double coat but tidy with it. Rear movement was excellent with plenty of drive. Best Junior.

GD (2)

1 Parker Tucker’s Tom Trick’s Incredibly Ilay of Uniquecottage. Cream brindle with a strong masculine head with a deep stop. Lovely big teeth and correct bite. Conformation all A1. He has a good depth of rib and his tailset was correct. There is no mistaking him for a bitch, all male this one. Presented in profuse double coat, he moved straight in front and with drive from the rear, showed very well.

2 Lamb and Saltmarsh’s OSW Birselaw Come Dancing with Macmoon JW Sh CM ShCEx. This one was lighter boned than winner, had a really good head with typical dark muzzle. Level topline, good tailset. Strong rear with correct angulation. Moved with drive in the rear but not moving so well in front today.

PGD (3, 1)

1 Keeves’ Seveek Treasure The Dream. Very showy Cairn of good proportions and a nice size. Good mouth and a level topline. Correct rear angulation. I would prefer more depth of brisket. Harsh coat. Moved OK.

2 Bateman’s Carradine Whiskey Mac. Red, longer cast than winner. I liked his head and he had good, medium, strong bone. Well bodied, he was in profuse, harsh double coat. He moved very well both ways, not quite so showy as winner.

OD (6, 2)

By far the strongest dog class.

1 Danielsson’s Swed Fin Ch Uniquecottage Wild Dill. A really lovely cream who took my eye as soon as he entered the ring. He was a pleasure to go over, having really strong bone and a good depth of brisket. He excels in head which is balanced, has a broad skull and good shape and eye colour, strong muzzle. The rest of his conformation was fine, he had the correct tailset and carried it well on the move keeping his topline level. But his greatest asset, in my opinion, is his movement. It was so refreshing to see a Cairn move true in front, keeping his front legs parallel and behind, you could see the drive because you could see his pads. He moved effortlessly with a good flow, his feet just skimming the ground. He was very well presented with a good harsh outer coat and soft undercoat. Showed very well indeed. He behaved well in the group and was shortlisted under judge Lesley Crawley. DCC & BOB.

2 Waugh’s Ch Tribannon Karamak. This Cairn was really unlucky to have Wild Dill in his class today. Karamak is a really good Cairn who moved around the ring as if he owned it. The bits on the ground didn’t bother him at all, he held his head up all the way! His head is typical with a deep stop and lovely eye colour. Good mouth. Powerful muzzle. Straight front, clean shoulders, deep in rib, good rear angulation. Flowed around the ring. Preferred coat of winner and winner’s maturity. RCC.

3 Owen’s Caldwall Call To Order.

4 Saich’s Lindcoly Howling Mad Murdoc.

GCD (2)

1 Day’s Tribannon Chocolate Chip at Trekhilli. Up to size 19 month old. Well boned and bodied. Strong neck with a good flow, clean shoulders. Level topline which he kept on the move. Correct tailset. Presented in good order, in excellent condition with harsh double coat. Moved true and showed well. Good rapport with handler.

2 Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Dark Charmer for Macmoon Sh CM. Not as big as winner, a nice size. Excels in head which was balanced, short muzzle and correct eye. On the day his coat was not in as good a condition as winner. He showed very well.

VB (3)

1 Goud’s Vale of Atholl’s Bessie McIntyre. Cream brindle, well made and good strong body. Feminine head, presented in fine order with a lovely textured coat. Showed particularly well.

2 Purvis’ Svendalens Memoire Cherie. Dark brindle bitch, nice make and shape. Good head, broad skull, strong muzzle, lovely expression. In full coat, harsh double. Not quite the showmanship of winner.

3. Kinchin’s Carradine Ruby Tuesday at Pennidazzle

PB (1)

1. Osborn’s Tweslam Chasing Rainbows Dark brindle pup, very feminine, nice size. Pretty head with correct eye shape and colour. Straight front, correct taliset. Moved OK, coat not at its best today.

JB (4, 1) –

First 2 could change places on another day.

1 Yates Johnson’s Pendley Dinah. This quality bitch was so lovely to go over on the table. Sound in conformation. I liked her feminine head, so expressive. Strong neck with clean shoulders. Level topline and good tailset. Nice rear angulation. Well presented, in good coat and condition. Sound rear movement. Very attentive to handler.

2 Robinson’s Cruzo Curtain Call. Grey brindle with a very good coat and well presented. Make and shape fine. Stood four square on good legs and feet, standing well forward on forepaws. Strong loin and nice bend of stifle. Showed with enthusiasm. Preferred head of winner.

3 Kinchin’s Pennidazzle Dream of Dreams.

GB (5)

1 Saich’s Lindcoly Howling Whoopi. I like this well balanced red bitch a lot, she presented a beautiful clean outline and showed particularly well, very much in tune with her handler. Nice size, not overdone in any way. Medium bone, straight front with good layback. Good depth of rib, strong loin, level topline, kept on the move. Tail in correct position, carried well on the move. Moved true in front, with drive from the rear. In good coat and condition, presented well.

2 Shopland’s Tycadno Penny Black for Cherrycrack. Dark brindle with a really lovely Cairn temperament, I bet she’s a livewire at home. Excels in head, which was really feminine. Nice flow of neck into clean shoulders. A sound, honest bitch but on the day the winner had a better coat I thought.

3 Bateman’s Carradine Mon Mon Sherry.

PGB (3, 2)

1 Bateman and Ravenhill’s Carradine Fizz Bomb. Nice sized red bitch with typical dark points. Lovely, strong yet feminine head with broad skull and strong muzzle. Excellent mouth. Well bodied with a level topline. Well balanced. In good coat and condition. Very showy and moved particularly well in front.

LB (2)

1 Osborn’s Tweslam Gimme Gimme Magic. Another red of nice size. Cairny head with good expression. Lovely make and shape with a strong back and level topline. Medium length of back with good tailset. In good condition and her coat was of the correct texture and she was well presented. Moved true in front and with drive from the rear. Showed well, a nice bitch.

2 Saich’s Lindcoly Let’s Just Talk. Another red, nothing really to dislike about her. Sound in make and shape and again correct size. She moved very soundly both ways. But I preferred the head of winner and she was not in the same quality coat.

OB (4, 2)

1 Soper’s Elitecharm Five of Diamonds. I have admired this bitch from the ringside on many occasions and was not disappointed when I examined her on the table. She is a good size with correct proportions. Not overdone, medium throughout. Beautiful head, so well balanced and feminine. Nice neat ears. Good mouth. Well bodied, adequate bone. Coat was of excellent texture with plenty of it but she was well presented and tidy, rugged but not ragged as the saying goes. Up and down she moved true in front and with drive from the rear. Showed well for handler. CC.

2 Hughes and Hooton’s Penticharm Party Popper. A quality bitch with a lovely temperament. Beautiful feminine head with lovely dark points, good body, adequate bone. Straight front and had good layback. Stood well forward over forepaws. Nice bed of stifle. Another good mover, flowed effortlessly around the ring. Showed well. Thought the winner had the edge on coat today. RCC.

GCB (1)

1 Purvis’ Svendalens Memoire Cherie – 2nd in Veteran B
