CAIRN CRUFTS 26 A big thankyou to all the exhibitors who brought their lovely Cairns to be judged by me at Crufts 2026 - Usually our biggest entry Championship show of the year. (99 dogs 105 entries) I was thrilled to be asked to Judge my Cairn Terrier breed at Crufts 2026. Such a super quality entry. I was really surprised and so pleased with the number of overseas exhibits. I had some very difficult decisions, but my top winners stood out as such special Cairns. I admired the Hjohoo Kennel when I judged in Sweden a few years ago. The problem with such large classes was not being able to place some quality Cairns. My 1st Cairn “Darcy†replaced my 17 year old naughty Jack Russell in 1990. I chose the Cairn from a Terrier breeds book then visiting a few pet ones. Sadly I bought Darcy from a puppy farm, he died in my arms at 6 yrs old, such a lovely friendly cute light red boy who gave me such a love of his breed. Looking for a replacement the C.T.C put me in touch with the late Norma Newton (Strathinver), we had a choice of 2, a dark one sired by Kinkim and a red from the Strathinver line. Incidentally my top winners’ pottery prizes were from Norma’s Cairn collection. We (Me and Danny) ended up with both Cairns. She advised us to go to Milly & Alf Jennings who lived nearby us for advice etc. Milly said our red bitch Dollie would be a good show girl, she filled in a schedule for us at a local show, Dollie ended up winning her class and getting RBOB by Judge Catherine Butterfield. Both Milly and Catherine became our close forever friends. We joined MCTC who encouraged me join their committee then become a Cairn Terrier Judge and ended up being assistant secretary etc. I am now retired but still very loyal.
