Driffield 25 Judge

CAIRN DRIFFIELD 25 Judge: Mrs S F Confue CAIRN JUDGE DRIFFIELD 25 I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Committee of Driffield for inviting me to judge at their 50th Show, held in conjunction with their 49th. It was a privilege to be part of such a special milestone, and my heartfelt thanks also go to the exhibitors for the honour of judging their dogs. I was delighted with the excellent entry. We were fortunate to enjoy glorious weather—much appreciated by some dogs, though a little less so by others. I did try to adapt my judging format to keep dogs and exhibitors out of the direct sunshine as much as possible, thank you for your co-operation and understanding. I was pleased with my final placements; each dog was judged as I found it at that moment in the day, and it is quite possible that decisions may have differed had judging taken place later in the afternoon. I was, however, a little disappointed to see a few exhibits presented with dirty or untidy coats and not shown to their best advantage. Presentation and handling can have a significant influence on how a dog appears in the ring, and in some cases the handlers did let their dogs down. Encouragingly, many seemed to settle and present their dogs far better as the day progressed, which was pleasing to see. I would also like to say a big thank you to my fantastic steward who kept both myself and exhibitors in check. VD (1,0) 1 Lamb & Saltmarsh Birselaw Come Dancing with Macmoon OSW JW ShCEx Sh 8-year-old dark brindle dog with an exceptional head and expression. Shown today in a very profuse coat, which did not quite allow his outline to be seen to full advantage. He was rather interested in the scents on the floor at times, but once settled he moved well and with purpose. He enjoys a lovely rapport with his handler, and he was a pleasure to go over. MPD (1,0) 1 Dennis & Waites Svendalens Moon Stone 7/12 month old up to size masculine puppy. Showed with a cairn like attitude. His head furnishings are developing and his was shown in a shorter coat today. He moved well and held his topline on the move. PD (1,0) 1 Lucas & Tobutts Carradine Sir Percival 11-month-old red brindle dog with a good, thick, coarse coat coming through. He has a pleasing head with his furnishings developing nicely, a dark eye, and large, clean teeth. There is a good flow from neck into shoulder, with a clear forechest. He moved with drive, and his movement will naturally tighten with maturity. Well muscled and full of promise. JD (1,0) 1 Percys Northern Dancer With Winetta A 14-month-old teenager who certainly took charge of the ring and made his handler work! He carries a lovely deep red, harsh coat and is of correct size and well balanced. He has a well-defined stop, neat ears which he used to advantage, and large teeth with a correct bite. Once he settled, he moved well and displayed a clean, tidy outline. Well muscled and developing nicely. PGD (2,0) A close decision. 1 Lamb & Saltmarsh Tycadno Shining Star Around Macmoon JW An up-to-size, well-balanced cream dog with a stunning head. His coat today was not presented to its best advantage, which would have allowed his outline to be seen more cleanly. He has large, correct teeth with a sound bite and dark, well-shaped eyes. Moved well and is a quality exhibit. 2 Mundays Furythor Reluctant Villan Today he did not move as well as I have seen him do on other occasions (and at the show afterwards, he seemed very interested in what was on the floor.
