LKA 11 Judge
|
CAIRN LKA 11 Judge: Mrs F S Cameron CAIRN JUDGE LKA 11 I very much enjoyed judging our breed at LKA and thank the committee for their invitation and the hospitality I received. In common with the opinion of many judges nowadays, I thought there was more depth of quality in the bitches than in the dogs, but having said that there were some top quality males present. There were some really lovely heads in both dogs and bitches and this is good to see as the head is so important in defining our breed. I only found a couple of suspect mouths so far as the bite was concerned, but there were a lot with very small teeth which I found disappointing. Coats and presentation were generally good. Some bitches were overweight which spoilt their outline. So far as movement is concerned, we still have some loose fronts but otherwise I thought movement generally had improved since I last judged. Puppy Dog (1,0a) 1 Felters and Rumens Landbuck Para Handy. 9 month old dark brindle, well up to size. Nice head and expression, good ears. In full good quality coat. Rear movement OK but still needs to tighten up a little in front. Hope he doesn’t grow on much more. Junior Dog (3, 2a) 1 Peers Tweedisle Sea Scout. Wheaten brindle with dark points. Good eye, neat ears, correct bite. Coat past its best. Moved OK behind but is another who needs to tighten up in front. Would have liked a little more of him all over. Post Graduate Dog (6,2a) 1 Robinson’s Cruzo Bilbo Baggins. Well balanced, light red, lively dog, well up to size. Nice head with dark eye and neat ears. Good neck reaching into well laid back shoulders. Well muscled rear, parallel hocks well let down. Good harsh coat. Moved with drive. Very promising. Limit Dog (5,0a) 1 Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Codebreaker. Wheaten with a simply beautiful head. Well balanced overall, level topline, good rear angulation. In full , well presented coat. Moved with drive, and though I felt he could have been more positive in front this dog has so much breed “type” he cannot be overlooked. 2 Percy’s Winetta Sir Percy. Red with dark points. Head not quite as masculine as 1. but good dark eye, neat ears, correct mouth. Good quality coat. Nice outline with level top line and correct tailset. Good bend of stifle. Moved well. Open Dog (8,2a) 1 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Trouble at Mill. What a lovely dog. Fitted the standard so well. Grey brindle of moderate size and so well balanced. Good, masculine head with that true Cairn expression, excellent forehand, level topline, good bend of stifle, parallel hocks. Well presented quality coat. He moved around the ring reaching well in front and with propulsion from the rear. Pleased to award him the CC and BOB. In the group, I thought he looked an excellent ambassador for the breed 3 Inett & Bambridge’s Carradine’s Crackaway Jack Minor Puppy Bitch (4,0a) 1 Clarke’s Lentrica Sweet Sensation. Delightful six month old red with such a feminine head and expression. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, good spring of rib and length of back with correct tailset. Well angulated in the rear which enabled her to move with drive around the ring with amazing self possession for one so young. This was her first show and she was not in the least overawed by her surroundings. One to watch for the future. BP Junior Bitch (8,0a) 1 A good class. The first three could change places on another day. Thompson’s Castleline Peggy Sue. Very attractive light red with lovely outline. Pretty feminine head, correct bite. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Good length of back. Strong quarters. Moved very well. Liked her overall balance. Post Graduate Bitch (15,8a) 1 Culliford’s Brenndarcy Maid in Heaven. Well balanced quality light red in full coat. Attractive head and expression, good shoulder placement, plenty of upper arm, good rear angulation. Moved and showed well. Limit Bitch (8,2a) 1 Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Xtra Factor. Red brindle with dark points. Another beautiful head from this kennel. Deep stop, well sunken dark eye, broad skull, neat correctly placed ears - she had it all. Lovely straight topline, strong quarters, with excellent angulation. Good harsh coat. Moved well, with plenty of drive, and with spirit. Strongly considered for RCC. 2 Dolan’s Glenrood Masquerade. Another lovely bitch. Well presented red in good coat condition. Pretty head, good mouth. Good bone throughout. Level topline, good tail set and carriage. Moved well. A close decision but I felt 1 was a little more “active, game and hardy”.. Open Bitch (9, 2a) A nice class. 1 Harding’s Ch Cannwood Remember Holly. Very eye-catching red of correct proportions with a super outline. Attractive head with true Cairn expression. Nice dark eye, neat ears. Excellent forehand with plenty of upper arm. Good spring and depth of rib, strong loin, well muscled quarters, hocks parallel and well let down. Presented to a very high standard. This top quality bitch moved round the ring with such ease. CC. Good Citizens Bitch (3, 2a) 1 Byrne’s Little Miss Tonka. Red, shown in quality coat, neatly presented. Level topline which she held on the move, and good tail carriage. Moved well round the ring. Well handled. Fiona Cameron |
