CAIRN MANCHESTER 15 Judge: Mr Ronnie Irving BEST OF BREED : 1480 SHAW Mrs E B & Mr I L B Ch Honeyhall Headboy DO YOU WISH THAT THE KENNEL CLUB WOULD PUT IT'S OWN HOUSE IN ORDER? CAIRN JUDGE MANCHESTER 15 Cairn Terriers This was the first time for a number of years that I had awarded CCs to the breed. I know that it is dangerous to generalise from the specifics of an entry of just 57 at one show, but I cannot say in all honesty that I thought the breed had improved during that time. I did feel however that this time heads were by & large good & so were coats & I was pleasantly surprised that fronts were better than I had imagined they would be & in the main the dogs were shown in good condition. I was however concerned by some issues. Firstly that there were quite a few dogs that were rather up to size. Secondly there were too many with tails carried rather high & finally a few showed rather close hind movement. Having said that, I felt that the final line ups in both dogs & bitches looked very good & I was pleased by the top winners. PD (6,2) 1 Clarke & Svendalen’s Perseveverance with Lentria, good for size & head developing quite well though needs time to finish. Scored in coat over 2 here & also was rather more positive in movement. Enough bone, & OK in neck. Correct short tail well carried. Good stifle without being overdone there, & showed well; 2 Inett, Harrison, King & Leighton’s Carradine George Flies with Harkingleigh, a very good headed youngster with a good expression & correct strength of muzzle, good neck & backline, good proportions. Not in the best of coats today & was not moving as positively as the winner. Good length of body & OK for tail carriage but did not show with quite the alertness of the winner; 3 Peers’ Performing The Dream for Tweedisle. JD (3,1) 1 Keeves’ Seveek Double Dice, certainly fits the standard for having a natural appearance. Very good in head & expression with a good skull & correct head proportions. Behaved rather better than 2 here. Moved well in front & OK behind. Coat not at its best but showed well; 2 Peers’ Tweedisle Relight My Fire, needs a bit more ring training but was of good size. Good head with the right amount of stop. Good in front standing but being erratic when moving up & down. Good feet & enough bone. PGD (4) 1 Parkin’s Carradine My Mate Matthew, not in the best of coats but very pleasing in head & expression. Not over exaggerated in any way & better size than 3. Enough length of body & good in tail length. Moved well in front & behind & scored in head & expression over 2 2 Drews’ Tycadno Thriller at L'artiste, better in coat than 1. He was OK in head but did not have quite the head & expression of 1. Good neck & topline, Close up to 1 but both of them scored over 3 for size & tail carriage; 3 Day’s Cherrycrack Ludo at Trekhilli. LD (7) The first two here were of better size & better tail carriage than 3. 1 Waites’ Svendalens Snow Knight, very good head & skull, good ears. Correct in front & good feet. Enough bone. Good for size & not too big. Moved out well behind. OK for tail carriage & shown in good coat. Behaved rather better than 2 on the move. His overall size, balance & proportion took him to the RCC position; 2 Currie’s Stirlingview Superhero, good in head, neck & topline & held tail well. Coat could be slightly harsher. He moved out very well when he eventually got into his stride but he needs a bit more ring discipline to complete the picture; 3 Inett & Engebretsen’s Carradine Dexter. OD (5,2) 1 Shaw’s Honeyhall Headboy, a very sound & eye catching dog, good for size & scored for typical head & expression without being overdone there. Coat not at its best but scored very strongly in front construction & in movement both in front & behind. Good tail length & shape. Good neck & topline & enough length of body with correct spring of rib. He was a quality dog, good for both type & construction & went on to win the CC & BOB; 2 Bateman & Gompels’ Carradine Terries Tipple, scored over 3 here for hind movement but didn’t always stand right in front. He too was good in head & expression & had enough neck. He was good in coat & like several others including some winners, his tail was carried a shade high. Enough length of body & good in rib; 3 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Fable. VD (2) 1 Parkin’s Roachdee Mystery Of The Full Moon, younger than 2 & it showed. Pleasing in head, ears, eye & expression & moved out well both in front & behind. Good size. Correct coat & good tail well carried. Shown in very good condition. Good feet & correct in loin. Did not appear to stay to compete for BV; 2 Lynch’s Fieldron Call My Bluff at Linacrelads, a bit older than 1 & showing his age a little. Not in the best of coats & could benefit from losing a bit of weight. Good in head. PB (6,1) 1 Day’s Trekhilli Pickled Peppa, very pleasing indeed in head & expression with a good skull & correct ears well carried. Must not grow on but is well proportioned & balanced & has a good neck & topline. Better in front than behind. Enough length of body & scope. Good in tail for length, set on & carriage. Correct bone & good feet. Went on to win BP; 2 Waites’ Specially Designed by Svendalens, not quite the maturity of the winner & needs to finish in head & strength of muzzle. Good small ears & correct in topline. Good in hindquarters. Shown in good coat; 3 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Silver Tarr. JB (7) 1 Waugh’s Andrum Brite Side, big enough & though had no dark points was nevertheless good in head, eye, skull, muzzle & expression. Excellent for length, outline & proportions with a good neck, topline & tailset. Moved well in front & behind; 2 Robinson’s Cruzo Capriole, OK in skull but needs to finish & strengthen a shade in muzzle. Good neck & topline, very good tailset. Moved up & back well; 3 Waites’ Seveek Snow Angel with Svendalens. PGB (6,2) 1 Owen’s Caldwall Call The Shots, stood out here for type & movement. Shown in good coat. Excellent in head & expression with good ears. Good neck & had enough length of body. Alert showmanship. Good bone & feet & moved better behind than 2; 2 Hughes & Hooton’s Penticharm Wishing On A Star, very pleasing & typical in head & expression. Did not have as much drive behind as 1 but moved well in front. Well proportioned & very good in coat & good in overall outline; 3 Peers’ Tweedisle April Beauty. LB (6,3) 1 Coates’ Penticharm Starlight, a bitch with very typical head, eye, ears & expression. Very good for size, length, neck & topline. OK in tail & tailset. Moved better in front than behind; 2 Dolan’s Glenrood Magic Spell, another bitch with a pleasing head though not quite as good in expression as 1. Moved better behind than 1 but did not have quite as much scope. Very good in coat & coat texture & had a good deal of quality; 3 Hutching’s Cloverbrook Touch Of Class at Crowneast. OB (4) A pleasing class with some good bitches. The first three were all close up but the reserve was showing & moving rather erratically. 1 Osborn’s Tweslam Thistle Be Magic, a very smart bitch which had a slight edge over 2 for movement though they both moved pretty well. The winner could do with a shade more coat but the texture was good & she was just right for size. She has a good head & expression enough neck & good firm topline. Good small ears. She was OK in bone. Correct feet & good in hindquarters. Moved out smartly. Went on to win the CC; 2 Ward’s Vanajam It’s Cold Out Side, OK in front construction. Pleasing in head, neck & topline. Good hindquarters & enough bone without being overdone there. Enough length. RCC; 3 Bateman & Inett’s Carradine In Love With Amy. VB (1) 1 Byrne’s Little Miss Tonka, good in skull but could be a shade more powerful looking in muzzle. Really excellent harsh coat texture & overall muscle condition. Moved out very well & had good hindquarters. Could perhaps carry a shade less body weight but nevertheless very fit for her age & extremely good in coat. Went on to be BV. RONNIE IRVING |
