CAIRN JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 17

Cairn Terriers

Three Ch shows in a week is a big ask of exhibitors but there was a good entry with nearly 100 per cent turnout, thank you.

My thanks also to my two very efficient stewards who kept everything running so smoothly. I was pleased with my winners although it is increasing difficult to have a line-up in each class that ‘matches’. In general, things I noted were good big teeth in most exhibits with just a couple of suspect mouths & also a few eyes rather lighter than ideal. Coats as always coming & going & back movement still a problem. It is also good to see the breeders of many years producing dogs so consistently, no easy task. A really big plus is that we rarely see exhibits these days who won’t ‘show’.

MPD (3)

1 Catto’s Birselaw Count Bezukhov, maturity always shows in this class, this 8 month is well grown with plenty of substance, good masculine head, correct teeth & eye, heavily coated, moved with drive;

2 Firth’s Cairngold Clint, a younger dog & lighter framed, again masculine with reasonable bone, in very good coat, moved well & held his topline, just needs time;

3 Peers’ Tweedisle Lively Lad.

PD (2)

1 Day’s Trekhilli Pepperazzi, well grown dark dog, lovely expression with good head, well put together moved with drive, liked him a lot & on his best behaviour today;

2 Shannon & Storrs’ Brenndarcy Aladdin Sane, not so mature a 1 & would like him to be a little more masculine, coat not at its best but moved well enough.

JD (2)

These two brothers are both at the gangly teenage stage!

1 Ball’s Lentrica Let’s Dance at Calamondin, lovely head, good bone, well put together, looks high on the leg but very short of coat, moved well particularly in profile, needs time;

2 Carter’s Lentrica Rocket Man at Carernwil, similar remarks apply but lost out on movement to 1.

GD (2)

Decades on & second generation the goods still keep coming in.

1 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Silver Askin, my type, keen expression, well made & muscled, correct overall proportions, moves well but coat on the blow today;

2 Shannon & Storrs’ Brenndarcy Tinsoldat, different type to 1, masculine head, good shoulders & neck, again coat on the blow, preferred the movement of 1.

PGD (3)

1 Smith’s Rocasovale Danish Delight, really expressive head with good dark eye & large teeth, well balanced, moved with drive, short of coat today & new one will enhance;

2 Peers’ Tweedisle Tugman, liked this dog when he came in the ring, good head & forechest, stands well forward, however lost out on movement;

3 Saichs’ Lincoly Howling Murdoc.

LD (9)

1 Waugh’s Tribuns Licorice Coin at Tribannon, lovely dog, not overdone done in size but well boned & muscled, best of heads & expression, correct front into reach of neck & level topline. In good coat & moved with purpose;

2 Mears’ Glenmear McIntyre, I also like this dog a great deal but he doesn’t make the best of himself, again lovely male head & expression, good bone & condition, perhaps not in the best of coats at the moment;

3 Keeves’ Seveek I Spied That Dream.

OD (5)

1 Hogarty’s Ir Ch Cadagio Don’t Stop Me Now, upstanding male with a really wicked expression, his overall conformation is so correct, the best of movement with great reach. Presented in the best of coats, he demands attention & got it, delighted to award him the CC;

2 Shaw’s Ch Honeyhall Headboy, really liked him, a worthy champion, little to add what others have already said, particularly liked his movement in profile, today perhaps not quite the best of coats, nevertheless very deserving of the RCC;

3 Kinton’s Ch Woodthorpe I Know The Code.

MPB (5,1)

1 Soper’s Elitecharm Five Of Damonds, very raw baby at her first show, so confident everything as expected at this age, appealing head, good big teeth, correct front & well set on neck, level topline, adequately boned, movement true, looks promising;

2 Firth’s Cairngold Carolina, rather more mature than 1, very feminine with good proportions, movement true, promising youngster, just preferred the overall conformation of 1;

3 Saich’s Lindcoly Look This Way.

PB (6)

1 Dolan’s Glenrood Spell Dance, super puppy, 10 months & quite mature, beautiful head, best of fronts, neck & shoulders, so well balanced & in good coat, no exaggerations here & can really move. BP;

2 Petts’ Brenndarcy Hunky Dory among Doonrae, another really lovely feminine bitch, dark points enhance, held her outline, well balanced, little to split these two just preferred the overall conformation of 1;

3 Hogarty’s Cadagio Dressed To Thrill.

JB (7)

1 Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn at Gethlee, 15 months & maturing nicely with more to come. Beautiful feminine head, dark points enhance, best of fronts & shoulders into level topline, she needs to make a bit more of the neck she has, flowing movement, presented in top order & at one with her handler. Pleased to award her RCC;

2 Firth’s Lentrica Black Star for Cairngold, litter sister to junior dogs, a bit less mature than 1, correct front, neck & shoulders, well constructed, just perhaps not showing as well today as I’m sure she can;

3 Felters & Rumens’ Lentrica Fame at Landbuck.

GB (4)

1 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Fennel, again my type, good honest sort with typical head, very well made, good bone & muscle, presented in fairly full coat, plenty to like;

2 Catto’s Birselaw Page Turner, lovely head & outline, well balanced, shown in profuse coat as usual from this kennel which can make her look a bit heavy;

3 Thompson’s Castleline Caledonian Lass.

PGB (2)

1 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Cloudbusting, very smart young bitch with appealing expression, conforms well to the Standard with good balance & outline, moves freely & a great showgirl;

2 Kinton’s Woodthorpe Enigma, slightly longer cast than 1 but well made with typical expression, preferred movement of 1.

LB (8,1)

Difficult class to judge as several different types.

1 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Florey, nothing overdone & nothing flashy, just a thoroughly good Cairn, all the right credentials & in correct coat, moved with drive & showed well;

2 Keeves’ Seveek Hopes N Dreams, slightly different type, feminine expression, big teeth, well set on neck to good shoulders & level topline, bit short of coat today;

3 Drew’s Miketos Marvelous Fiona at L’artiste.

OB (4)

Exceptional class, all could change places anytime

1 Clarke’s Ch Lentrica Dolly Daydream, my BP at Windsor 2015, she has lived up to her promise, nothing to add to my comment then other than maturity made her a real eyecatcher both here & in the BIS ring. A great credit to her breeder. CC & BOB;

2 Dolan’s Glenrood Scheherazade, I have long admired this bitch & I was not disappointed, she is all I could want in a Cairn bitch out of mould we see consistently from this exhibitor & was unlucky to meet an exhibit really at the top of her game;

3 Hogarty’s Ir Ch Cadagio As Long As You Have Me.
