CAIRN JUDGE SOUTHERN COUNTIES 10

SOUTHERN COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

5th June 2010

I would like to thank the Southern Counties Canine Society for inviting me to judge at their show, thanks also to the ring stewards who were a pleasure to work with making my job on the day a very enjoyable one.

It was a very warm day, the morning part especially, so I tried to keep the dogs in the shade of the tent as much as possible. I fear that a number of the dogs who are usually ‘full of themselves’ suffered from the effects of the heat and weren’t moving at their best, however I tried not to penalise the ‘drooping’ tail too much. I did penalise the one’s with incorrect mouths, and I was surprised at the amount of dogs that had ‘suspect’ mouths and dirty teeth.

On the whole my entry was a quality one, and most of the exhibits were a pleasure to go over, however there were one or two exceptions and I would like to remind exhibitors that the dogs undercarriage also needs to be groomed and cleaned, as some were smelly and needed a comb putting through the hair underneath, I think you will know who you are, so do something about it.

Minor Puppy Dog 1

1. Peers, Tweedisle MacNab: Stood alone, Wheaten brindle, not very happy today and didn’t have the gay and fearless disposition desired, however he is only just turned 6 months, so time is on his side. Masculine head, best of mouths, good front assembly.

Puppy Dog 1 (1)

Junior Dog 3 (1)

1. Felters & Rumens, Landbuck Tillisch, Red, in good coat. Sound dog, moved well both fore and aft. Strong masculine head, good front, level top line, good tail set, Well muscled quarters, on his toes today. Have watched this dog’s progress, not quite ready for top honours, but they’re not too far away.

2. Lamb & Saltmarsh’s, Birselaw Fable, Dark brindle in good coat, level top line, good tail set, longer in muzzle than 1, moving close behind today.

Post Graduate Dog 9 (1)

1. Weinberger’s Come Fly with me to Correnie. Red Brindle, good head and eye, good length of neck flowing into correct shoulder placement. Good top line, which he kept on the move, good tail set. I liked his overall appearance and confirmation, needs time.

2. Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Trouble at Mill., Wheaten brindle, good mouth and eye, level top line, good tail set, good front. He didn’t like the heat today, which affected his movement. Preferred the balance of 1.

3. Mear’s Glemear Marauder.

Limit Dog 7 (1)

1. Warne’s Spirebrooke Dawn Raider, Grey brindle, Loved his masculine head and expression. Have put in my notes “moved the best so far today”. Good top line and tail set, good depth of brisket, showed well, did everything his owner asked of him.

2. Catto’s Birselaw Follow Your Dream, Red brindle in excellent coat, best of heads, everything you look for in a Cairn dog, but would prefer him to be a size smaller. Moved and showed well.

3. King & Leighton’s Carradine Night Listener at Harkinleigh

Open Dog 4

1. Norstrand & Lindborg’s Rasken’s Riding Pawnee, clear red in good coat. Best of heads, good length of neck and shoulder placement. Level top line and good tail set, good bone and feet. Loved his superb outline and confirmation, best of movers both front and aft , he moved with drive and covered the ground effortlessly. What I would term a good honest dog. The ring was his today. Dog cc and BOB.

2. Ward’s Vanajam Pop Idol. Very well presented cream in best of coats. Excelled in front, good length of neck flowing into good shoulder placement. Head not as good as 1, but again I loved his outline and overall appearance, slightly rangier than 1, but moved freely and with purposeful drive. Excellent ring presence, difficult decision between the two. Res. Cc

3. Smith’s Ch. Rocasovale Razzle Dazzle

Minor Puppy Bitch 7 (1)

1. Pett’s Doonrae Kast in Gold 8 month old red brindle in good coat. Very feminine head and expression, good mouth, lovely length of neck, good shoulder placement. Lovely top line and tail set. Good mover, well muscled quarters,. Extrovert showgirl.

2. Chambers & Exton’s Cairngrove Ring My Bell 7 month old dark brindle. Again very feminine, similar to 1 in many respects, but finer in bone and not so showy today, however she was a strong contender and moved well for a youngster.

3. Peer’s Tweedisle Devil Be a Lady

Puppy Bitch 4 (1)

1. Dolan’s Glenrood Masqerade, Beautiful 11 month old wheaten bitch. Stood out in this class. Very feminine head and expression, best of mouths. Loved everything about her. Good bone and feet, superb neck and shoulder placement, level top line and tail set. Best of movers, handled to perfection and showed like a dream. In tip top show condition. Best Puppy.

2. Keeve’s Seveek Cast Over Spell, 11 month light red. Not as well presented as 1, and preferred the mouth of 1 as well. Feminine head, good neck and shoulder placement. Level top line . Moved and showed well.

3. Peer’s Tweedisle Fancy Free

Junior Bitch 5 (1)

1. Hewitt’s Littleacorn Stay in Touch. Lovely wheaten bitch, coat not at its best yet, but it’s on its way and nothing to hide!! Best of heads, very feminine expression, liked her neck and shoulder placement, level top line. Moved and showed well.

2. Felters & Rumens Landbuck Scrumptious Red brindle bitch in excellent coat. Another with a very feminine head, good top line and tail set.. Showed well, but not as positive on the move as 1.

3. Oldale’s Tweslam Dawn Chorus at Cranae

Post Graduate Bitch 9 (1)

1. Smee’s High Class Baby at Malmay. Well presented red brindle with dark points in good coat. Alert and feminine expression, lovely outline and confirmation, good bone and feet. Moved and showed well.

2. McIntyre’s Glenchess Chloe. Good coated grey brindle. Very feminine, level top line good tail set, seemed to be a bit phased by the heat as she was a bit lethargic on the move.

3. Owen’s Honeyhall Handful at Caldwall.

Limit Bitch 10 (1)

1. Thomas’s Tycadno Starlet. Well presented wheaten bitch in best of coats. Beautiful head and expression, good bone and feet, best of fronts with level top line and good tail set, strong hindquarters which propelled her around the show ring with ease, excellent show girl. RCC

2. Catto’s Birselaw Bewitched wheaten brindle in good coat, very feminine showgirl. Good front, neck and shoulders. Preferred the top line of 1, moved and showed well.

3. Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Button It.

Open Bitch 3 (1)

1. Short’s Ch. Glenchess Cut the Mustard. Feminine head, good mouth, alert expression. Strode out with confidence, one of the best movers of the day (and there weren’t many). Kept her top line on the move, well boned good feet. Did everything her handler asked of her to win he the CC and RBOB

2. Smee’s Malmay Sky’s the Limit. Well presented dark brindle. Very feminine head and expression, good top line, held on the move. Not as positive on the move as 1.
