CAIRN SOUTHERN COUNTIES 25 Judge: Mr Frank Kane First of all my apologies for the very late submission of this critique. As exhibitors who show under me will know, I write my critiques at the table whilst the placed dogs are in front of me, they then go to be typed and sent to the dog press. Owing to a series of circumstances in the weeks after the show that has not happened and I am now catching up with the breeds who have been affected. Now to the show; there were 45 Cairns presented, which was a pleasing number but there was a club show held in conjunction which is always an advantage for exhibitors who had a breed specialist to follow me at the club show. I enjoy judging the breed and good heads and expressions with neat ears are a great attraction. I tried to find these on dogs of correct proportions with medium length of leg and medium length of body with a good ribcage without being too heavy. There were some compromises and a couple of close decisions where I could have gone either way- and they are the ones that I mull over afterwards. Many thanks to my stewards V (1, 0) 1 Lamb & Saltmarsh Birselaw Come Dancing with MacmoonOSW JW ShCEx ShCM VBIB 8 year old dark brindle dog with excellent coat and a very good mover still enjoying the show ring. Strong head and good expression Missing a few teeth now but looks a rugged Cairn all through Best veteran PD (2,0) Not an easy start as they were two very different types 1 Lucas & Tobutt Carradine Sir Percival 8 months old and scoring in bod and substance on the day. Of correct size and proportions with a balanced head. Coat texture coming in Lively and active temperament and carried himself well 2 Percy Ariom Northern Dancer with Winetta 10 months red looking leggy and light with excellent coat, topline and tailset . He has a neat head and good eye and ears. I am sure he will finsh well and he was probably just right for his age for a Cairn but he looked unfinished against the winner today. JD (2, 0) 1 Lamb & Saltmarsh Tycadno Shining Star Around Macmoon JW. I liked this dog a lot and he won this class well. He is balanced and well made and had a good topline and tailset and carriage. Good coat texture Scored on the move. 2 Rose Carradine All Ways A Chance, brindle of good type and proportions. The winner was more positive in front action PGD (4, 0) 1 Munday Furythor Reluctant Villain brindle in good coat . I liked his head expression and neat ears. Good bone and has good chest and ribcage. She has a lovely head and exression. Could have had a little more coat to finish her and the male scored there but I think I was hard on her here. PB (4, 0) 1 Hiam & Hartop Carradine Hazel Moon BPIB very promising and showing well for her young handler Appealled for her head piece and body proportions and leg length.
