CAIRN JUDGE WINDSOR 25

Firstly I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at this lovely show. I was looked after extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble and they made the day extra special. Most importantly, I thank each and every exhibitor for the honour of judging your dogs. Without you there is no show. I was very aware of the responsibility that this my first CC appointment demanded, and I did not give any award lightly. I would like to highlight a couple of concerns; there were a few exhibits with small teeth. Also, I was surprised at how many low tail sets there were and how many “pinned in.” On the plus side all exhibits were beautifully turned out with wonderful temperaments. Due to the heat I tried to keep the dogs in the shade as much as possible and limit movement to what was necessary. It got hotter as the day progressed and a few of the bitches seemed to flag in the heat.

3 lovely Cairns still doing the breed and their owners proud.

1 Birselaw Come Dancing with Macmoon OSW JW ShCEx ShCM (Lamb & Saltmarsh) 8 year old dark brindle male. Strong, well made, balanced with strong hindquarters, good bone throughout. Correct double coat of good texture. Pleasing head with strong wide muzzle and defined stop. Excellent spring of rib, level topline with well set on tail. Showed and moved well. A close decision, his rear movement edged him into first place. Best Veteran in Breed.

2 Cannwood Misty Dawn at Gethlee (Smith) 9 year old cream bitch, pushed the winner all the way. Lovely for size with enough bone, well angulated with good sloping shoulder. Lovely head with well placed ears, good eye, stop and bite, well padded feet. Shows so well and attentive to handler, unlucky to meet first.

3 Ch Tycadno Bright Star for Kanawha (Goldfinch) An honourable mention for this 8 year old bitch, it was very close and another unlucky on the day.

PD (2,1)

1 Carradine Sir Percival (Lucas & Tobutt) 8 month old red brindle, alone in this class but a very worthy winner. A strong pup with a lovely head, he is very well made with good bone, well sprung ribs, level topline and tail set on correctly. He moved well, one to watch. Best Puppy Dog.

JD (2,1)

1 Ch Landbuck Sabrage (Felters & Rumens) 17 month, wheaten brindle dog, another alone in his class but such a worthy winner. He has a lovely head with excellent stop, small well placed ears, good eye and expression. His double coat is of excellent texture. He is well balanced with good rear angulation, level topline and correct tail set. He is well made and boned, well let down hocks and good feet. I was a tad disappointed with his rear movement today but he pushed hard for top honours. Showed superbly in his class but a little less so in the challenge.

PGD (4)

1 Sanderfield On The Rocks for Cherrycrack (Imp Fin) (Shopland) 2 year old grey dog, well built with good bone, angulation and spring of rib. He has a nice head with well placed ears. Shown in full double coat, he moved and showed well.

2 Tycadno Shining Star Around Macmoon JW (Lamb & Saltmarsh) 18 month wheaten just of out Junior. A close decision, a nice prospect with a lovely head, good stop, eye, expression and ear placement. He is balanced with a nice outline, he needs to body up and mature.

LD (4)

1 Carradine My Way Lenny (Inett & Bateman) 2 year old wheaten brindle dog, nice size with a classic outline, he has a very good head with excellent mouth with lovely large teeth. His correct double coat is of a good texture and he moved well both coming and going. Cleverley shown.

2 Seveek Country Lad (Lucas & Tobutt) 4 year old wheaten brindle, he is a sound, honest, workmanlike type of Cairn, nothing overdone, full of breed type. He showed well today and it was a close decision, he lost out on front movement.

OD (4,2)

1 Cannwood Moonlight Shadow (Roberts) 2 year old light grey brindle. I awarded him BPIS at a club Open show some time ago and I am delighted at how he has matured. He has the most attractive but masculine head, deep stop, correct eyes, well placed ears and a lovely expression. So well put together with sloping shoulders and a good length of upper arm. Well developed chest and good spring of rib. He has correct feet, strong quarters, level topline, kept on the move. Well set on and carried tail. He has a quality double, harsh textured coat. On top of this he strides out so well and is a positive and correct mover. Showed so well, attentive to his handler. I was delighted to award him his first CC.

2 Ch Carradine Arfa Pint JW (Hiam) Another I have judged before, I liked him then and I still do. He is an excellent example of the breed, quality masculine had with deep stop, well placed ears, good length of neck flowing into sloping shoulders, deep chest with well sprung ribs, level topline, strong quarters, good turn of stifle, well let down hocks. Good feet. Well developed in forechest. Not quite as positive on the move as 1st today, Reserve Dog CC.

Special Beginners (1)

1 Macantsaoir Celtic Warrior (Mcintyre) 2 year old grey dog. A bit too leggy for me. Has a nice head, correct bite, good harsh double coat. Moved OK, showed well. Best Special Beginner.

PB (7,3)

1 Brenndarcy Supertramp (Shannon & Storr) Beautiful 6 month old red brindle at her first show. She has lots to like, pretty head with cheeky expression, used her ears well. Good mouth, strong but feminine body, good feet, coat coming along nicely, she moved really well when settled, a very promising pup. Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Breed.

2 Glenrood It Has to Be Me (Dolan) 11 month old red, an attractive puppy, well balanced with pretty head, good mouth, pronounced stop, correct scissor bite and well placed ears. An excellent double coat of harsh texture. Good angulation front and rear with neck flowing into level topline. Very well put together, showed and moved well.

JB (4)

All excellent bitches in this class, could change places any time.

1 Doonrae Ultra Violet (Petts) 16 month wheaten. Won this class on her ultra feminine outline and graceful movement. She is well balanced with a delightful head, small but in proportion to body. Enough bone with a lovely flow of neck, sloping into excellent shoulders, a well developed forechest. Good body with a level topline, well set tail and strong quarters. She combines strength and femininity in just the right combination. Reserve Bitch CC.

2 Landbuck Amethyst (Felters & Rumens) 17 month wheaten brindle, unlucky to meet the winner, a beautiful bitch, smaller and more compact than the winner but with all the right qualities. Wonderful head. Body balanced with correct angulation, harsh double coat, level topline, moved well, preferred tail carriage of winner.

PGB (4,2)

1 Tycadno Dark Star (Thomas & Jones) 3 year grey, nice size, well put together with good bone and balance. Pleasing head with good mouth, stop, eye and ear placement. Nice expression. Correct angulation, strong rear with well let down hocks. Good feet, correct harsh double coat. She won the class on her positive movement.

2 Be Gin Again at Tweslam (Osborn) 3 year old, beautifully presented grey. Smaller than the winner but nicely balanced. Lovely feminine head. Well angulated shoulders, deep chest, well sprung ribs, level topline and good tail set. Strong quarters with well let down hocks. Maybe the heat affected her as she was sluggish and reticent on the move and didn’t appear to be enjoying herself today.

LB (6,1)

1 Dazzle Me at Tribannon (Waugh) 3 year old cream/wheaten. Elegant bitch with a lovely head, deep stop, correct mouth, nice angulation front and rear and good bone. Deep body with good forechest and spring of rib. Level topline and well set on tail. She has powerful, well muscled and strong quarters with well let down hocks. Wow, can this girl move? She was a joy to watch. If you want to see what strong propulsion means, watch her. The most free flowing stride here today, forelegs reaching well forward and strong propulsion from the rear. Combining all her qualities with such outstanding movement gave her the Bitch CC and BOB.

2 Tweslam Be Gin The Magic (Osborn) 4 year old red, a very attractive girl with a beautiful head, with deep stop and good mouth, nice eyes and expression, well placed ears. Balanced and correctly put together with well angulated shoulders, good depth of body and spring of rib, enough bone with good bend of stifle and correctly let down hocks. Level topline and correctly carried and placed tail. Her coat was excellent and she was well presented and handled. She just couldn’t match the movement of the winner.

OB (4)

1 Ch Pendley Sea Breeze (Yates-Johnson) 3 year old, ideal for size. Good head with deep stop, lovely eyes, small, well placed ears. Strong forechest and sloping shoulders. Deep body with correct spring of rib. Level topline, correctly set tail. All put together as it should be, she is a pretty bitch who never put a paw wrong in this class. She didn’t have any sparkle or animation today in the challenge, maybe another affected by the heat.

2 Brenndarcy Witches Promise (Shannon & Storr) 2 year old red brindle, pushed the winner hard. Lighter frame than the winner, balanced with a nice outline, enough bone, well angulated with good shoulders, depth of body and level topline. Tail well set and carried. She has strong quarters, well let down hocks and good feet. Moved and showed well. A lot to like and each time I see her she is maturing nicely. Not quite there yet but I am sure her time will come.
