Judge Harold Gay (Malsville)

Judging at National Terrier is always a pleasure as it is a show true to the original idea and the emphasis is always dogs.
An excellent number of Cesky were entered and for the first time they stood there saying we are a breed; in other word consistency was definitely noticeable. Now the majority are certainly beginning to look alike, some could be smaller, some have a better topline, better front but the fundamentals are certainly starting to be there, isn’t it time that the other thing came in for some consideration? I’m fully aware that Cesky aren’t supposed to be extreme in any department but they aren’t a difficult breed to produce muscle on so having Cesky with a loose front, spread feet, poor pads, no drive does rather shout to the judge that exercise and conditioning are not bothered with.
My Best Dog and Best Bitch were classic examples of a judging dilemma. Two different types, both beautifully prepared, with the beautifully feminine ultra typy bitch moving adequately but no more or the very masculine, superbly constructed dog, who could be slightly better for type, that lit the ring up with his magnificent movement. Risking eternal damnation from breed purists it just had to be the dog and in the group ring, with a change of handler, he went even better. Animals like these two can only give a really positive image to the way Cesky are improving.
The Two Reserves were also a full credit to the breed. I hope the owner of the Reserve Dog will forgive me but my first reaction as he walked in was plain. This is a dog though to be seen. You need to stand, look and go over him and his lack of flash turns into a respectable Cesky. His size his good, his balance is good, neck, topline, are all there and he moves well also with reach front and back. The son of the Best Dog and it is obvious when they stand side by side. The Reserve Bitch was another very typy lady with outline, muscle, presentation, everything and is not overly large at all but next to the text book Best Bitch appeared a bit big and lacking just a little in angulation.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (1)

1) Brown’s Knize Kyle Lastarean. Very much a baby but has good shape and outline. Movement was rather ad-hoc but at six months old who expects a showing automaton. Certainly promising.

PUPPY DOG (0)

JUNIOR DOG (3)

1) Wither’s Captain Crochet du Champ D’eole. A sound dog all through. Balanced, conditioned, nice coat, just needs some more ring practice and if placing European style was allowed he would have been Best Dog 3. Look forward to seeing him when he has been over here a bit longer.

2) Grant’s Grancek Feeling Fine. Nice positive mover, quite extreme in front and prone to a flat outline.

POST GRADUATE DOG (5)

1) Livingston’s Lastarean Putovani. Nice sized Cesky. Reserve Best Dog.

2) Lowndes’ Lastarean Darebak. Slightly longer in back but his slightly larger size balances it nicely and gives him a very good outline and shape. The nicest male head in the entry. Difficult to get settled on the move.

3) Grant’s Grancek Early One Morning. Another positive mover from this kennel but again quite an extreme front. Coat not as good on the day.

LIMIT DOG (0)

OPEN DOG (2)

1) Brown’s Lastarean Dufek ShCM. This silver Cesky owns the ring. Yes, to be picky he could have a slightly finer head and ear but it is in no way coarse at all and compared to what used to be seen regularly in the ring in this country is a fine example of how careful breeding can improve something beyond measure. Fabulous animal. Best Dog, Best of Breed and there were compliments passed from spectators as to how well he looked in the big ring.

2) Taylor’s Polede Lforluka. Beautifully prepared and presented darker dog that lacks confidence.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (3)

1) Atter’s Ridley Pamatka. Beautiful six month baby with an exquisite head. Stood well with a nice outline. Moved positively for one so young. Best Puppy in Breed.

2) Brown’s Ridley Oslava. Slightly older puppy of very nice type but on the day lost out to the quite uncanny confidence of number one.
3) Rowland’s Rossau Raindance. There were a few flashes of a balanced Cesky here but she was very lacking in confidence and ring training.

PUPPY BITCH (1)

1) Taylor’s Rylandson Candy Twist. Very raw and finding the noise of Bingley Hall not to her liking.

JUNIOR BITCH (2)

1) Mills’Komidion Keleli of Blackthorpe. A strong bitch excellently presented, beautiful front but not so good behind.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (9)

This class said how much Cesky have come on. Two sides of the ring and animals looking very similar. I did want to place one bitch but the owner didn’t seem to want me to.

1) Brown’s Lastarean Kama. Well presented bitch with beautiful coat and outline. Nicely put together right through and her movement reflected this. Again if allowed she would have been BB3.

2) Wither’s Pajantick Cforcharlie. A slightly plain bitch that could be ignored on just sight but handling tells another story. Good outline and balanced enough on the move. Finer head with good ears. Just needs a more positive attitude to life.

3) Thomson’s Lastarean Bavinka at Karensbrae. A bitch with shape, outline, head and movement both front and rear that is sound & true. A little fine all through.

Limit BITCH (1)

1) Burrage’s Talyot Camille. Nice looking Cesky with most of the essentials, let down by her movement which fails in reach and drive.

Open (5)

1) Atter’s Gloria Kvitko. If you ever want to feel a perfect rib ask the owner to go over this bitch, it’s superb. She fits her name, a glorious example of Cesky. Moves more than adequately but there could be more there with some more muscle and then she’d be virtually unstoppable. Best Bitch.

2) Brown’s Lastarean Afera. Not disgraced at all standing Two here and in many ways sorting these two bitches out was the hardest decision of the day. Reserve Best Bitch.

3) Horn’s Woodstrode Abba Ridley ShCM. Beautifully proportioned bitch that has outline and moves with reach and drive. She is just a size too big in every direction.
