Caledonian Open Show – 14th June 2026
I would like to say thank you to the Caledonian Club for inviting me to judge their Open Show this year. The committee were marvellous at running the show, and I felt very welcomed. It was an honour to go over so many wonderful dogs. Overall, the standards were good, with just the odd sparse coat.
Class 1 – Puppy Dog
1st – 21 Jackman, Miss N & Mrs S, Carnkie Ragged Robin
A very striking puppy with a great head, well domed, strong muzzle, good scissor bite and well-set dark eyes. Strong neck, well-placed shoulders, good length and nicely ribbed. Strong rear with nice angulation. Good-quality pencilled pepper coat. Moved well coming and going. A very promising youngster.
2nd – 36 Stevens & Squires, Mr I & Mrs L, Redgreet Barfield at Tabordane
Another striking puppy. A good head with a good scissor bite, strong muzzle and dark eyes, although not as domed as 1st. Neck well muscled, shoulder set okay. Chest needs to mature and drop. Well-sprung ribs, nice length, rear okay and tail set okay. Shown in good condition and coat was correct.
Class 2 – Junior Dog

This boy showed himself well, presented with a good-quality mustard coat. Head still developing but with a good muzzle, deep dark eyes and a well-domed head. Strong neck into good shoulders. Chest still developing and needs to drop. Good length and ribbing. Moved well coming and showed good action going. Held his topline on the move.

A lovely head, strong muzzle, excellent dome and dark eyes, giving a fantastic expression. Muscular neck, well-laid shoulders and a good front. Nicely ribbed and had good angulation. Shown in good condition with correct coat. Moved well but preferred the movement of 1st on the day.

Pepper dog with a lovely expression, good muzzle, large, wide, dark eyes set into a nice head. Strong neck with well-laid-back shoulders, deep chest, well-sprung ribs, good length and rear angulation okay. Moved well. Good coat.

Strong, muscular neck, well-placed shoulders and good, deep chest. Good length with well-sprung ribs, good rear and tail set. Moved well. This boy is all masculine, which I loved. He challenged hard for top honours.

A promising youngster but just not quite as developed as 1st on the day. Nice head with lovely expression, well-set eyes and muzzle. Neck strong and shoulders well placed. Front still to develop. This girl has a good, strong head and muzzle, nice dark eye. Her neck is strong, shoulders slightly upright and feet could be more padded. Good underline with deep chest, nice ribbing and overall good length. Moved okay but not freely enough today, better coming than going. Shown with a good mustard coat.
Class 10 – Limit Bitch

A totally feminine bitch. Beautiful head, well domed, with liquid dark eyes and strong muzzle, correct bite. Ear set perfect, strong neck, well-placed shoulders, good front, good ribbing and length. Nicely angulated rear, all with an excellent topline. For me, the perfect girl.

Correct scissor bite with a good muzzle. Nice head, not as domed as some, but another feminine girl. Shoulder okay, good front, excellent topline with good ribbing and length. Moved well both coming and going. Quality pepper coat.

I have always admired this girl, and going over her today I was not disappointed. Great head with a good muzzle, correct scissor bite, well domed and good ear set. Well-muscled neck on well-set shoulders, well-sprung ribs and good length. Great angulation and tail set. Moved well, holding her topline at all times.
2nd – 30 Sleight, Miss L, CH Danchester's Can You Hear Me Roar for Bonnybeck (Imp FIN)
Very well presented. Correct mouth, great head with a strong neck and front, well-placed shoulders. Her topline was slightly masked by condition today. Well-angulated rear and moved well. Just came up against a more sassy girl today.

Strong head and muzzle, correct bite with strong neck, good shoulder, excellent ribbing and topline, good rear and tail set. A quality veteran in excellent coat and condition.
