DANDIE DINMONT OCT 25 Judge: Miss F Snook Thank you to the Officers and Committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to give CCs in Dandie Dinmont Terriers for the first time. I had some super specimens to judge. A special thank you to my lovely enthusiastic steward, Patricia, for her sterling work. JD (2) 1 Cruden & Kaye’s Puddockswell Knuckles Mcginty for Shamsky. A 13-month-old mustard dog, who moved very well with reach from the front and thrust from the rear. Super strong, masculine head with broad skull and domed forehead. Covered with the required soft, silky ‘top knot.’ Well-proportioned muzzle of good strength and large melting eyes. Good neck and well laid shoulders leading down to nice straight legs. Long, strong body with the correct flowing topline, creating a nice shape. Tail set maybe a little high but may look better with maturity and coat development. Hopefully, coat will come with maturity, as the topcoat needs to harden to give that crisp feel. 2 Roberts’ Puddockswell Imagine This Around Marbledale (IRL). A nice type of well boned Dandie. Attractive, well-proportioned head with good eyes and strong jaw. Good fore chest and depth of chest, with typical topline with slight arch over the loins. Super coat, which is an important feature of the breed. Soft, linty undercoat and hard, crisp outer coat. Unfortunately, movement let him down on the day. PGD (5) 1 Dolby’s Redgreet Coldstream Guards Into Pondfrox. On the smaller side, but a very nice type of mustard Dandie Dinmont with a superb long, low weaselly body. Well-proportioned head, correctly larger for size of dog. Broad skull with correct length of muzzle. Good neck and well laid shoulders. Short, straight fore legs, with chest coming well down between them. Correct length of weaselly body, low at shoulder with a downward curve and corresponding arch over loins and slight drop from top of loin to root of tail. Well-developed thighs and angulated stifles. Moved very well with reach in front and drive from behind. Correct crisp coat. RDCC. 2 Nathan & Cox-Purcell’s Puddockswell Screaming J Hawkins. Another mustard dog, well balanced with typical outline. Good head proportions with lovely expression, but too much ‘top knot’ detracts. Good bone and condition. Well laid shoulders and outline. Thighs well developed, angulated stifles and hocks well let down. Moved OK. Super double coat with soft, linty undercoat and harder crispy topcoat. LD (2) 1 Rolland’s Dandiroyal Dashwood. A good moving pepper dog who presents a lovely weasel outline, which he kept on the move and when free standing. Strong boned with good muscle tone. Good length of body, almost too long, with ribs extending well back. Slightly arched loins. Correct, well-proportioned head with good expression and well-placed ears. Good neck and lay of shoulders. Strong hindquarters. Initially, he had wonderful movement reaching out in front and thrusting from the rear. I considered him for the RCC, but I did not think his coat was so good, his body was long and he lost his wonderful movement in the challenge. Such a shame. 2 Cruden & Kaye’s Dryfevalley Midnight Blue. Eye catching pepper coloured dog. Strongly made large well-proportioned masculine head, with square, broad skull and well domed forehead. Dark, large, round eyes, giving correct soft expression. Well set ears and strong teeth. Nicely constructed, with well laid shoulders and correct fore legs. Not the style and typical topline of the above, on the day. Moved OK. OD (3) 1 Butcher’s Ch Mishahda Mischief Managed. I see I have judged this one before and described him as ‘a ‘cracker’, just what I think a Dandie Dinmont should look like, not surprised he is a champion. I see he is ‘clocking up ‘the CCs.’ My notes this time say – ‘wonderful, everything correct and presented to perfection.’ A natural showman, lovely to go over, with everything flowing so well. Large, muscular, strong head, with broad skull and well domed forehead. Rich, round, dark round eyes, giving the soft expression. Well set and placed ears. Muscular neck, flowing into well-made shoulders, good depth of chest and straight, well boned front legs. Lovely ‘Dandie’ topline, well ribbed body, strength over the loin, well-muscled hind quarters, angulated stifles, finishing with a well-set tail. Enabling him to move like a dream. Presented in excellent double coat. Such a worthy champion, his owner must be immensely proud of him. DCC & BOB. 2 Denham’s Dentgate Hucklberries. A different type, not the style and presentation of above. But a nice alround good Dandie. JB (1) 1 Sleight’s Finamor’s Voulez Vous with Bonnybeck. A mustard bitch I have admired since a puppy, who is developing extremely well. Absolutely lovely, presenting such a typical, weaselly outline. Super, top-quality head with rich dark hazel round liquid eyes giving the melting, soft expression. It is topped off with soft, silky hair. Strong, muscular neck and good shoulder placement. Super fore chest, depth of chest and good ribbing. Quality bone and nicely padded feet. Super correct, flowing Dandie topline. Her jacket has a good texture. Although she appeared to be getting tired at the end of a long day, she moved out very soundly. Well-handled and presented, as always. Super coat lying in pencils. Seriously considered her for the CC and had to give way to her kennel mate on the day, but her day will soon come. RBCC. LB (3 )1 Fray & Wilson’s Woodfud Winters Dream. Another very nice pepper bitch showing off the true ‘weaselly’ Dandie top line. A lovely type, with head of good proportions, broad skull and well domed forehead. Rich dark hazel round liquid eyes giving the melting, soft expression. Good neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Super fore chest, good depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Well-developed hindquarters, angulated stifles and hocks well let down. Moved extremely well with reach and drive. 2 Garven’s Cloverwood Magic Minnie. Quite nice mustard bitch, but not the style of above. Good head proportions and mouth with strong teeth and correct eyes. Correct front assembly, well laid shoulders, correct overall body length, depth and shape. Nice tail. Moved OK. OB (3) 1 Sleight’s Ch Danchester’s Can You Hear Me Roar for Bonnybeck (Imp Fin). Absolutely fabulous. Like my Dog winner, I see she is also ‘clocking up’ the CCs. A lovely, mature bitch, ‘out of the top drawer’ and a very worthy champion. A pleasure to go over. Strong, well-proportioned head, profuse topknot, with broad skull and domed forehead. Super large, round eyes giving the soft expression. Strong neck into well laid shoulders. Good depth of brisket. She has a super shape when standing and on the move, with all the ‘Dandie’ weaselly curves in the right place. Good front and bone, legs and feet. Lovely depth of body. Strong, powerful hindquarters. Presented in super double coat, with harsh outer coat lying in pencils. Excellent movement, with reach and drive. BCC. 2 Butcher’s Ch Bonnybeck I’m No Muggle at Huffletuft. Another very nice, quality pepper bitch and certainly a worthy champion, sired by the dog CC winner. Also ‘out of the top drawer’ with similar attributes as both my dog and bitch winners. Excellent in every way, just lacking in the finish and coat on the day. 3 Weaving’s Ir Ch Dentgate Silk Threads. Felicity A. Snook
