FOX SMOOTH JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 15

Smooth Fox Terriers

Thank you for your entries.

I feel I have to say that I was somewhat shocked at the lack of shoulder angulation with the majority of the entry. Many were, in varying degrees, upright & loaded. As a consequence hind angulation was variable, as was movement. Stringing them up on the move merely exacerbates this current problem, giving short strides, a wide front & narrow hind movement, with muscles building in the wrong places. I am fully aware that Smooths are not the easiest to move on a loose lead, but it should be practiced; & regular gallops can work wonders. Please, do try to produce good angulation as that is the foundation of a Smooth. Feet are reasonable, but further shortening of the nails would enhance, giving the desired tight cat foot. What has happened to the punishing jaw? I found many with narrow width and lacking depth. Coat, toplines, tailsets, temperament & quality are still there in the breed & with judicious choice, over time, when breeding, the full glory of a Smooth will surely return.

PD (2)

1 Turley’s Zetamaz Marcel Marceau avec Llyunamill, fine head, fair neck, nice front, level topline, decent set on. His more settled conduct gave him this class. Shorter nails would be an advantage;

2 Brookes’ Zetamaz Gerard Depardieu, obviously of similar mould to 1. Although preferred front of 1, this lad had the better hind angulation. Moved OK.

JD (3,2a)

1 Broom & Crouch’s Oaxaca Del Boy with Roxway, quality boy with fine head of desired proportions, sufficient neck; short, giving good, square outline & correct tailset. Excellent coat. Keen showman which affected his movement a little today. Time is on his side – sure to reach the top drawer.

PGD (2)

1 Jacques’ Residenset’s Hands In The Air for Jacqspot, lovely young dog with no exaggerations. Well chiselled head, neat eye, good reach let in to decent shoulders, correct front, level topline, correct tailset & hind angulation. Good bone & coat. Shown on a loose lead with consequent free striding, correct action. His hind movement in the BIS ring was absolutely parallel & steady. Could not deny him the CC & BOB today. With time on his side, sure to make up;

2 Ketley & Gash’s Enjakay Split Second, quality dog in good coat decent head & eye, short, with correct set on. Feet OK. Tended to stand himself a little straight in stifle. Moved OK.

LD (5,1)

1 Brookes’ Zetamaz Cool Dude, decent head & neck, level topline, tailset with some ‘dog’ behind. Moved well enough. Won his class on excellent cat feet & correct front;

2 Jones & Smith’s Darlaur Dakota, quality dog of substance, within a balanced outline. Attractive head & eye, sufficient neck, level topline, correct set on with plenty behind it. Preferred front of 1 today. Moved well;

3 Goodley’s Roxway Euonymus.

OD (7,2)

1 Smith & Schoneberg’s Am Ch Absolutely Superstitous, heavily marked, striking, & a consummate showman. Fine head & dark eye. Decent front & feet, level topline, well ribbed back. Tail on top with plenty behind to give a balanced outline. Ample bone, hard coat, moved well. RCC;

2 Griffiths’ Yoxella Wiki Leaks, quality boy with pleasing head, ears & neck. Level topline, good spring of rib, well set tail. Showed well, but just not quite the hind movement of 1 today;

3 Grant, Griffiths & Hemmings’ Zlatan I De La Rosa.

MPB (1)

1 Morris’ Sanamaris Step Lively, lived up to her name – although a raw baby & nothing to show against, she carried herself well. A promising, feminine puppy, giving a nice outline. Sweet head & expression, decent neck & shoulder, good front, level topline & well set tail. Good bone & feet, quality coat. BP.

PB (2)

1 Rundle & Gaydon’s Saredon American Girl, feminine puppy, pretty head, sufficient neck, level topline & tailset in correct place. Fair hind angulation, moved & showed well;

2 Turley’s Zetamaz Paris By Night avec Llyunamill, attractive puppy, carrying more bone than 1, but not quite the hind angulation of 1. Moved OK & showed well.

JB (7,1)

1 Crouch, Murray & Horspool’s Oaxaca Racquel, well schooled bitch of quality. Pleasing outline with everything in the right place. Moved & showed herself well;

2 Baker & Jones’ Darlaur Delaware to Tuskenraider, pleasing head & foreface, putting me in mind of a ‘Boreham’ head. Decent neck, level topline, good set on. Liked her balance, but would prefer slightly more hind angulation. Moved & showed well;

3 Nichols’ Zetamaz She’s Snow Angel at Chantalle.

PGB (2)

1 Brookes’ Zetamaz Winters Tail, nice bitch,presenting pleasing outline within a hard coat. Reasonable angles fore & aft. Showed well;

2 Cook’s Borovale Bracken, quality bitch of substance. Decent outline. Not quite the front of 1. Both the above need to stride out further to give more effective movement.

LB (5,1)

1 Thornton & Bebbington’s Thunderclap Macphee by Glendraterra, attractive head & expression, decent neck, level topline, good tailset. Moved & showed well, which won her the class;

2 Morris’ Sanamaris So What, quality bitch within a good outline. Attractively proportioned head, good reach & topline, tail on top. A little unsettled on the move today, which did affect her movement;

3 Hughes & Butcher’s Forgevale Simply A Dream.

OB (2)

1 Thornton & Bebbington’s Ch Glendraterra Suzi Kew, upstanding bitch of quality. Fine head, lovely dark eye, neat ears, excellent reach of neck, decent shoulder. Level topline & correct set on with plenty behind. Sufficient angulation within a quality jacket. Moved & showed like the ch she is. CC;

2 Smith’s Thunderclap Macflurri, delightful, very heavily marked little package! Attractive head, dark eye, enough neck, short coupled, tail on top, sufficient angulation. Showed & moved well. RCC. Sure to make up.
