FOX SMOOTH JUDGE RICHMOND 16

Smooth Fox Terriers

My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this very well know championship show. Their attention to detail & hospitality was second to none. Ann Bradley was an excellent ‘front of house hostess’ she must have been exhausted after three days of looking after judges. My thanks to my stewards Joyce & Mark, apologies for no surnames.

Today the bitches were stronger than the dogs, maybe because the breeder chooses to keep a bitch with a view to the future. However the importance of a good dog must not be underestimated, sometimes not enough time is given to allow the dog puppy to develop, frequently being slower to mature than his sister.

My thanks to the exhibitors for allowing me to go over their dogs, most were familiar from the ringside or as fellow competitors, some were completely new.

Challenge for BOB. Two lovely quality youngsters, both well presented, both covered the ground standing & moving (something some exhibits had difficulty doing). Preferred overall balance & compactness of Yoxella Wish List, excelled in legs & feet, movement more positive in front. Glendraterra Garcon , I think has yet to achieve his best, although slightly older than the bitch he looked less mature. He was the most pleasant surprise of the day, bringing to mind some Smooths of the past of kennels long gone.

Dog challenge. Most difficult decision of the day, both won their class with ease, both never stopped showing. My eventual winner Glendraterra Garcon appealed on overall outline, great forehand, strong well muscled quarters. Pleased to award him the CC. Darlaur Dakota, well known quality dog, beautiful head & expression, great showman. His owner can take pride in breeding both RCC winners in the same litter.

Bitch challenge. Yoxella Wish List, pleased to award her the CC, for me she meets the requirement ‘bone & substance in a small compass’ as stated in the Standard. RCC, Darlaur Delaware, elegant ultra feminine bitch, outstanding head & ears, beautifully presented, a pleasure to handle.

PD (1)

1 Stahle & Nichols’ Chantelle Dennis The Menace, 10 months black headed dog, with a lot to like about him, long lean head, dark eye, keen expression, good front, level topline, good quarters, moved erratically, needs to settle.

JD & PGD (0).

1 Thornton, Bebbington & Murray’s Glendraterra Garcon, rich tan marked young dog, well balanced throughout, lovely classic outline, long head, strong foreface, long neck flowing into well laid shoulders, straight front, powerful quarters, hocks well let down, good hind angulation, round bone, good tailset, moved with drive. CC;

2 Griffith’s Wrecking Ball, tan eared dog of substance, well balanced good quarters, nice legs & feet, well bodied with good spring of rib, moved well. Close decision between 2 & 3

3 Kettle’s Equifox Perfect Pickle.

1 Griffith’s Yoxella Wish List, beautifully balanced combining substance with quality, round bone down to her compact feet, straight front, well proportioned head neat ears, small dark eye, keen expression. Good neck & shoulders, strong level topline, good tailset, good ribbing, good quarters & second thigh, stands foursquare. CC & BOB;

2 Thornton & Bebbington’s Glendraterra Black Eyed Pea, litter sister to BP, giving a lot away in age & maturity to the winner. Lovely quality puppy, good head, nice ears, keen varmity expression, round bone, good neck & well laid shoulders, good hind angulation, moved well.
