GLEN OF IMAAL LEEDS 12 Judge: Mrs M Macdonald Cross GLEN OF IMAAL JUDGE LEEDS 12 Glen Of Imaal Terriers I enjoyed my first appointment in the breed with CCs. Glens are one of my most favourite terrier breeds. We had a good big ring, but the ground was very uneven & made the assessment of movement difficult. Type was quite varied, I felt, but I was really delighted with my winners. PD (0). JD (2) I thought as these two boys came into the ring that they must be littermates as indeed they were. A quality pair with just the right degree of maturity for age, 12 months. They both have nice masculine heads with great expression, strong skull & foreface, good ears, correct bite & muscular neck. Well off for bone & correct feet. They have lovely body properties, good rib with strong loin giving the desired strong backline with slight rise over the loin. They have super temperament & enjoy their showing. Their coats were nicely prepared & I am sure will be two for the future in the breed. 1 Davis’ Donvaleset Rafferty at Viahninns, I thought had just the edge on front & was more settled on the move than; 2 Howarth’s Donvaleset Liffy at Arkview, a close decision. PGD (0). LD (4) 1 Quinn’s Kirikee Ronan O’gara, this handsome 2 year old caught my eye as he came in to the ring, oozes type with lovely masculine head, expressive eyes, well set ears, great skull & foreface, his strong neck leads into good shoulders, wide strong chest & good body with strong backline rising to loin. He has good bone & feet &, coping very well with the uneven ground, moved very soundly with free action & drive. He has a good quality coat that was well prepared for the ring. A very well-balanced dog. I was pleased to award him the RCC. His day will come, I have no doubt; 2 Welsh’s Romainville Brannigan at Brockland, taller dog than 1, very eyecatching exhibit with harsh quality r/wh coat, great head with a strong skull & powerful foreface, good neck & body properties, well off for bone, good front. He has great temperament & ring presence & moved out well but I would prefer more turn of stifle; 3 Hardy’s Amhard Freebooter. OD (1) 1 Hardy’s Amhard Damson Sauce, 6 years, dark brindle, stood alone in this class, nice typey dog of good proportions, super masculine head with the darkest of eyes, well set & giving gorgeous expression. Strong neck leads into nice shoulders & front assembly & being well ribbed presents a pleasing outline. Another who coped very well with the uneven ground. Appeared between coats at present. Well handled. VD (1) 1 Welsh’s Ch/Ir Ch Brockland Braehead Lad, here came the star of the show for me. Just what I would look for in an adult male Glen. With ring presence in spades, he comes into the ring just owning it! The ideal masculine male with a superb head & expression, correct skull & strong foreface, well set ears, strong neck leading into good shoulders. He has a wide strong chest with well boned forelegs & correct feet. His well sprung ribs & strong loin create the correct outline. He uses his well muscled quarters to power him round the ring. His coat is of harsh texture & is beautifully prepared. Good tailset. I was delighted to hear that his dam was one to whom I had given BOB some years ago & he does remind me of her! Now 7½ years, he is every inch the champion & I added another CC to his total, making him BOB. PB (2) 1 Cockayne’s Bregorrey Lady Belleisle, 7 months puppy was giving her handler a hard time! Very feminine with pretty head & appealing expression, just a baby with a coat of good texture & an attractive pale silver colour. She has all the essentials, I’m sure, but was pretty intent on keeping them hidden. It may not have felt like it to her exasperated handler, but it was her more settled movement that won the day for her over her litter sister; 2 Seall’s Bregorrey Madame Defiance, litter sister to 1 but at this stage quite different. She is shorter on the leg than 1, has a very pleasing head & expression but her coat is not, at present, so well developed. However, partly due to the uneven ground, her movement was erratic to say the least. I’ll be interested to see how these young ladies develop & I expect they may change places many times as they mature. JB (2) 1 Hardy’s Amhard Ginger Snap, very nice quality wheaten bitch of 14 months with good harsh jacket, excellent type, she has a lovely head, feminine but strong with good skull, foreface & beautifully expressive eyes. Her good neck leads into a nice shoulder & front assembly, good rib giving firm outline with correct slight rise to the loin. She is a steady mover, but does not give the impression she enjoys the show ring despite expert sympathetic handling by her owner; 2 Ashcroft’s Romainville Moira, same age as 1 but not so mature. She has a pretty head with good expression. Her coat is of good texture but a bit sparse. She was rather unsettled making assessment of her movement very difficult. PGB (2) 1 Hardy’s Amhard Ginger Galore, I see is litter sister to the winner of the previous class but not anything like as ready as her sister. She also has a pretty head with nice expression, but her construction is more exaggerated at present. Wheaten coat rather patchy. Really erratic in movement; 2 Whitehouse & McBrine’s Romainville Tigan, different type, strong head & neck, shown in full pale harsh wheaten coat, dark eye, lovely temperament, movement was quite affected by the uneven ground. LB (0). OB (2) 1 Harley’s Ch Donvaleset Brier, 5½ years wheaten of superb quality, just lovely to go over from her gorgeous feminine head to her wonderfully muscled hindquarters. She has such great skull & foreface, well set ears, super expression & correct bite. Her neck is strong & her front assembly is spot on. She has well boned legs & feet, deep chest, great rib & strong loin setting up the classic outline of firm hard backline rising slightly to the loin. Really sound mover, reaching & driving her way round the ring. Her jacket is of great harsh quality & a super colour. Altogether a classy lady! The icing on the cake was to find that she is also the dam of the two promising Junior dogs. CC; 2 Rogers’ Ch Winnie Wanna Make Music by Jeonty, wheaten lady just over 2 years, made up a pair of lovely bitches. She also has a lovely head, correct skull, strong but feminine, good foreface & bite, well set ears & with good dark eye giving such great expression. Her neck, shoulder & front are good giving really good front movement. She has a lovely wide & deep chest with well boned legs & feet. Splitting hairs between these two champions, I preferred the balance & coat quality of 1. A worthy champion. RCC. VB (0). MARGARET MACDONALD-CROSS.
