IRISH BELFAST 10 Judge(s) MR PAUL LIVESEY DCC SIDEWATER THE PRETENDER (MR F & MRS J RUNDLE) Irish Terrier My thanks to the Show and exhibitors for this chance to go over some excellent specimens of the breed. All feet were sound as were mouths. A number of dog exhibits pushed the tolerance on size, a few exceeded it and were penalised accordingly. Many exhibits lacked the drive in hindquarters that comes from regular positive exercise. jd (1) 1 Seabridge's Sujoncla Bear Tooth. Promising youngster, correct size and balance of substance in good coat well-presented. Good head with correct ears, nice dark eye and strong foreface. Expression would improve with teasing out much of the dark shading around the muzzle. Arched neck into correct shoulders, straight front, correct body shape for his age, good set on with quarters and rear musculature for his age. Needs to settle in movement. PGD (1) 1 Bamsey's Holbam Winslow King. Larger type all round. Good jacket well presented, sound on the move. Clean skull, if a little broad, well placed ears, dark eye, strong foreface. Arched neck into well muscled shoulders flowing well into strong back with good set on. Straight front, well angled rear quarters. LD (1) 1 Cooke's Lionwood Rowanberry ShCM. Another larger type, much improved in his slimmed form. Not the cleanest skull but otherwise sound. Good coat, dark eyes and strong jaw. Eventually settled on the move but not happy today. OD (5) 1 Rundle's Sidewater The Pretender. Full of breed type, correct size, good balance of substance, in hard condition, moved soundly with purpose, good broken coat well presented. Excellent head, clean skull balancing strong foreface, correct ears and dark eye presented to give the true 'dhurty' expression. arched neck into sloping shoulders and strong back. Straight front, up on his toes. Good set on, plenty behind the tail with well muscled quarters into nicely let down hocks that provided the drive. CC, his third, to make a worthy Champion. 2. Hagstrom's SW DK & Nordic Ch Merrymac Efficient Dynamics. That rareity, a dog spot on for size, full of masculine type that could never be considered 'bitchy'. Superb hard, broken coat put down to the minute. Correct balanced head, clean skull, dark eye full of spirit, strong foreface flowing smoothly from the skull. Good arched neck, muscular shoulders flowing into strong back of correct length for his size. Straight front up on arched toes throughout. Perfect set on, well muscled quarters good rear angulation and well let down hocks. Just failed to 1 on lack of face furnishings that left a stark expression and rear action needed work to tone muscles and provide drive. When these are corrected one to look out for. RCC. JB (2) 1. D Nicholls & Stahle's Shallcome Cassandra. Correct size, well balanced in good coat. Feminine head, good ears and eyes giving correct expression. Well placed shoulders, straight front, good set on, well muscled quarters and good rear angulation. Moved OK but without enthusiasm. 2 Devine's Kerrykeel Norah. Good size and plenty of breed type, excellent coat well presented. Clean skull, correct ears and dark eye giving nice expression. Well proportioned body but lacking in rear muscle tone. PGB (2) 1. Bamsey's Holbam Pearly Shannon. Quality bitch but never fully settled. Good coat well presented, balanced head, ears and dark eye. Well proportioned body but would benefit from more substance. 2. Davis' Ben's Heir Tanya. A bitch of good breed type with quality, broken coat but totally unhappy in the surroundings and reluctant to move. OB (4, 0) 1. Barker & Averis' Ch Drumbilla Misty Lady. Another spot on 'ideal' size but what quality and ring presence? She commanded attention the moment she came into the ring. Super overall balance, in hard condition, quality jacket put down to the moment, moved soundly and full of life. Balanced head, clean skull, correct size and ear placement, dark eye full of fire, strong foreface giving the essential expression. Elegant neck into muscular shoulders that flowed into the strong, straight back. Straight front on cat-like arched feet. Good set on with plenty behind, well muscled quarters, good rear angulation, hocks well let down. CC & BOB. It was a pleasure to see her with even more presence and move even better to take second in the Group under Sue McCourt. 2. Rundle & Goddard's Allatsea Gift of Gold at Marshcourt. Another quality bitch, slightly larger but still well within acceptable size. Good head, correct ears and dark eye well presented for that 'dhurty' expression. Good shoulders, front and strong back to correct set on. Good quarters and rear angulation but less positive on the move than 1. RCC. Paul Livesey |
