IRISH BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 19 Judge: Mr Ivor Hemmings BEST OF BREED : 7097 THOMAS Mrs G Ch Lead The Way to Montelle Sh.CM IRISH JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 19 My thanks to the National Dog Show Society for asking me to judge at the 160th Anniversary show and to the exhibitors who entered also not least my two very efficient stewards. I was pleased with the quality of my principal winners and found no bad mouths or cracked pads. In general, size is better than when I last judged. Heads need to be watched, as dogs which are too full in the cheeks and have poor ear placement give the wrong expression for the breed. Also upright shoulders, which does not give the proper leg extension in movement and also affect the set on of the neck. Sp Beginners D (1) 1 Simons’ Saredon Red Berry. Nice type of Irish. Good for size, in excellent coat and condition. Fair head with dark eye but ears could be better. Decent body with good tail set. Decent legs and feet. Moved ok but lacked animation. MPD (1) 1 Atwell’s Kerrykeel Conchobar At Xanwill. A rangy baby. Ok head, with a mischievous eye. Ears need to settle. Body of good size with correct tail set, though carried a little gay. Movement needs to tighten up but time is on his side. In need of a new coat. PD (3) 1 Averis & Barker’s Saredon Citizen Smith. RCC & Best Puppy. He looked a fabulous puppy when he entered the ring and I was not disappointed on handling him. Great head and expression. Lovely neck and shoulders. Correct front with crisp furnishings. Body ok for his size with a decent back end and spot on tail set. Moved very well for his age and in good coat and colour. Presentation and handling was immaculate. Won this class easily and pushed hard for the ticket, without a doubt a future champion. 2 Nevill’s Norakim An Storr At Rosemonelle. A likeable puppy of good size, make and shape. Reasonable head with ok neck and shoulders. Set himself up without being stacked. Moved better than third. 3 Bamsey’s Holbam Celtic Wizard. JD (3, 1) 1 Cooke’s Montelle Look Of Gold. Good type of Irish. Correct head and eye but ears a little high. In good coat and condition. Pleasing profile and symmetry. Gave his handler a hard time. 2 Nevill’s Norakim An Storr At Rosemonelle. PGD (2, 1) 1 Simons’ Saredon Red Berry. LD (2, 1) 1 Blowers’ Turith Adonis. Rangy dog who still needs to mature. Good make and shape with a long head. Straight front and standing on good feet. Tail set ok. Moved correctly both ways but could put a bit more into it. OD (2) 1 Thomas’ Ch Lead The Way To Montelle CC & Best of Breed. The best I have seen this dog look, in great coat and hard condition. Top quality dog who fits the standard. Nice length of head with good ears and small dark eyes which give the true Irish expression. Lovely length of neck and correct shoulder placement. Pleasing depth of body and spring of rib, the right length of loin giving him the required racy outline. Straight front on tight feet. Strong back end with tail bang on top. Hocks well let down. Positive movement, both ways and in profile. In lovely coat and well-trimmed. Pulled himself up on his toes in the challenge to beat the puppy. 2 Ruehle’s Darren Al Capone. Different type to the winner but another quality dog. Handled well and shown in hard condition. The first won on better movement and with better bone. Sp Beginners B (1) 1 Redman’s Holbam Celtic Little Minx. Nice sized youngster, a little heavy in head and ears need to settle. Good legs, feet and tail set. Would like a better topline on the move. MPB (1) 1 Bamsey’s Carliams Witching Hour. A pretty baby enjoying the day. Would like a longer head and both ears and movement need to settle but she has time on her side. PB (1) 1 Williamson & Ruffles’ Holbam Celtic Erin. Good for size, make and shape. Correct length of head but flying one ear. In good coat and condition. Moved a little close behind. JB (2) 1 Seabridge’s Sujoncla Lolo Creek. Racy bitch in good coat and condition. Pleasing length of head but would like better ears to enhance the expression. Straight in front with strong hindquarters. Tail ok. Movement needs to tighten up. 2 Redman’s Holbam Celtic Little Minx. PGB (1) 1 Cooke’s Royal Lady At Montelle. Litter sister to my BOB and a feminine version. Good size, in excellent coat and condition. Nice length of head but ears a little wide. Movement needs to be more positive. LB (3, 1) 1 Atkin’s Holbam Celtic Summer. A racy bitch, up to size and not as feminine as my principal winners. Of good make and shape with nice length of head, correct legs, feet, topline and tail set. Well presented. 2 Ruffles’ Holbam Celtic Whisper At Ruffmar. Correct sized bitch. Ok head and body with good tailset. Preferred the movement of the winner. OB (3, 1) 1 Price’s Magalin Adhmor Queen. CC. Top quality bitch shown in good coat and hard condition, trimmed and shown well. Excellent length of head with correct ear placement, a small dark eye gave the right expression. Lovely neck and shoulders, straight front with tight feet. In good body with plenty behind the tail. Moved parallel both ways with a perfect level topline in profile. Pleased to award her the third and crowning CC. Congratulations and the win was loudly applauded from the ringside. VB (1) 1 Nevill’s Rosemonelle Isabella. 8 year old bitch enjoying her day. Good size, make and shape on correct legs and feet. Correct tail set. Moved out well. Judge Ivor Hemmings
