IRISH BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 24 Judge: Mr Nick Connell IRISH JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 24 Thank you to the officers and committee of the National for their invitation to judge Irish terriers for the first time at CC level and grateful thanks to the exhibitors for entering their dogs. All the exhibits had super temperaments, although a couple would benefit from more ring training. They were all presented in good condition, and all had clear pads. MPD (2) 1 Richards, Lodgecroft Singing Master – A lovely youngster who has so much promise. He portrays a balanced silhouette and holds a correct topline when standing and moving. He has a typical head and expression and an exceptional forehand and correctly angulated quarters. He moved soundly fore and aft and was presented in super condition and handled sympathetically by his talented handler to accentuate his virtues. He is raw and needs to develop as you would expect at this age, and then I am sure he will trouble the best. BPIB 2 Cooke, Montelle Flash Light TAF - Another promising youngster who is well angulated in his front and quarters and he has a good depth of ribs for his age. His head is balanced with correctly placed eyes and ears, attributing to a typical expression. Moved true in front. PD (1) 1 Averis & Barker, Saredon Turning Point: This youngster has a lovely head and expression, good length of neck into a well-constructed front assembly, correct topline and well developed quarters for his age. He just needs a little more confidence in the ring. 1 Anderson, Kerrykeel Damhnaic – nice type who is balanced and well put together. He has a typical head and expression, level topline with a slight rise over the loin and well angulated quarters. He was presented in good order and moved true behind and needs to tighten in front. 2 Thomas & Print, Bilarny Hotcross Bun – This dog has a decent head and expression and a correct topline, he could be better angulated in his front and quarters which is evident when moving. He was presented in good condition. 1 Simons, Brucephela Quito Berry – This dogs head is balanced, and his ears are correctly placed, although I would prefer a smaller eye to enhance his expression. He holds a correct topline and moved true fore and aft. 1 Oliver & Oliver, Rufous Gubbeen Of Cleeve – A very nice type who was presented in super condition. His head is balanced with correctly placed eyes and ears attributing to a typical expression. He has an exceptional forehand and nicely angulated quarters. He moved soundly both ways. 2 Ruffles, Holbam Midsummer Knight At Ruffmar {ai} JW – Another nice type who has similar attributes to the winner but not as well schooled and played up to his handler. 3 Martin, Griffin Galanthus Gunderic OD (5,2) 1 Hardman, Ch Swed Fin Est Int Ch Red Lucifer At Bonosue – A lovely type for size and balance. His head is balanced, and he has correctly placed eyes and ears of the desired size to enhance his expression. He has a good length of neck into shoulders set at the desired angle onto a correct ratio of upper arm and straight forelegs to tight feet. His topline is level with a slight rise over his loin and his ribs are deep and extend well back. He has a good tail set and his quarter angles mirror his front assembly and he was presented in super condition. He moved true both ways and covered the ground economically when viewed from side profile. CC & BOB. 2 Averis & Ryan, Holbam Ace Of Saredon (ai) – This dog has a lot of similar qualities as the winner, but I preferred the overall balance and topline of the winner. RCC 3 Atwell, Kerrykeel Conchobhar At Xanwil 1 Hardman, Pinleygreen Joy – Decent head and expression, good forehand and a correct topline. Presented in good order and moved true out and back. 1 Gummow, Pinleygreen Irish Star for Montelle Taf – This bitch is what I was looking for, as she is the type I favour. Her head is correct for ratio of back skull to fore face and her correctly placed eyes and ears are of the desired size and shape culminating in a textbook expression. Her neck is clean and of a good length into shoulders set at the desired angle. Her upper arm is of the correct ratio with enough return to frame her deep ribs and her forelegs are straight and well boned. Her quarter angles mirror her front assembly, and she has a good tail set. She holds a correct top line and was presented in super condition. She moved soundly both ways and covered the ground with correct footfall when viewed from side profile. I had no hesitation with awarding her the CC and she could have taken BOB but decided to play up with her handler in the challenge. 2 Anderson, Kerrykeel Caragh – This girl has a very typical head and expression, a good forehand and holds a correct topline. She was presented in super condition and moved true both fore and aft. 3 Case, Kerrykeel Koire Ir Jun Ch 1 Lovelace, Dotsfirth Pearl’s A Singer – This bitch was presented to the minute with the correct length of jacket as you would expect from this handler.
