IRISH JUDGE CRUFTS 14

Irish Terriers

I was pleased to note that all feet were clear, all mouths were sound & eyes were correct size & colour. Only a few transgressed on the age-old conundrum of the balance between raciness & substance with none of the excessive raciness but a few with excessive substance in bone & muscle. There were two points for general concern for breeder attention. Skulls were not clean in all cases, particularly in the younger exhibits, which will need to be monitored as they mature & fill-out. Some shoulders did not have the correct layback making them look longer & weak in back & restricting free front movement.

VD (2,1a)

1 Atwell’s Montelle Mr Sandman at Xanwill, in good condition, well put down, moved soundly.

PD (4)

1 Bradley’s Montelle Royal Leader, a sound upstanding dog who claimed the ring. Would prefer a little finer bone;

2 Rawlings’ Holbam Pearly Bobby, overall well balanced, presented in good order, rear movement could be better;

3 Walls’ Saredon Red Hot Attraction, movement is yet to settle.

JD (3)

1 Moakes’ Saredon Lord Of The Dance of Jomoaka, well balanced dog, well put down, sound movement;

2 H Pearly Bobby;

3 Newey’s Kerrykeel Alroy, not the shoulders of 1 & 2, movement needs to settle.

PGD (3)

1 M Royal Leader, still commanding the ring from these older contenders;

2 Hulton’s Newguild Pride, nice type but overall picture spoiled by dark face. Hind movement not the best; 3 Redman’s Applerock Lord Stefan, slightly heavier with not the best shoulders, needs to settle in movement.

LD (5,1)

1 Lovelace’s Brazan Manatoba, a real honest Irish, nothing showy but well made in all departments, excellent harsh coat well put down, moved soundly & could probably have gone all day. RCC;

2 Stahle & Nichols’ Shallcome’s Brian Boru, another well made & put down in good order, not just settled in rear movement;

3 Rundle’s Sidewater Master Cruiser, another sound dog but not the drive on the move.

OD (9,2)

1 Barker & Averis’ Ch/Am Ch Kells Touch of Fleet St, spot on ideal size but what quality & ring presence? He commanded attention the moment he came into the ring. Super overall balance, in hard condition, quality jacket put down to the moment, moved soundly & full of life. Balanced head, clean skull, correct size & ear placement, dark eye full of fire, strong foreface giving the essential expression. Elegant neck into muscular shoulders that flowed into the strong, straight back. Straight front on catlike arched feet. Good set on with plenty behind, well muscled quarters, good rear angulation, hocks well let down. CC & BOB;

2 Savini’s Ch Saredon Modern Man, a sound dog, well presented, moved well, lost to 1 on overall balance;

3 Spanjer-Lindeboom’s Merrymac Quickrunner, good size & shape, moved with real purpose.

GCD (2)

Two happy, sound dogs in good order, great ambassadors for the breed.

1 Cook’s Montelle Ring Master at Terrahawk, sound dog, up to size, enjoying his day out;

2 M Mr Sandman at X.

VB (4)

1 Bradley’s Ch Montelle Mi’ Lady, always alert & on her toes, super expression, great balance all through, moved soundly, quality jacket in good order;

2 O’Keeffe’s Montelle She’s A Lady, sound bitch, nicely balanced, not quite the ring presence or quality of jacket on 1;

3 Wooding’s Sujoncla White Horse, sound bitch, well presented, just lacked the overall shape of 1 & 2.

PB (2)

1 Bamsey’s Holbam Pearly Star, quality puppy, soft, feminine expression, nicely balanced, moved soundly as though she owned the ring, good jacket well presented. BP;

2 Cooke’s Montelle Leading Question, a sound puppy, nicely balanced, coat still settling, against strong company today but one to watch.

JB (4)

1 H Pearly Star;

2 Stahl & Nichols’ Shallcome’s Bronagh, very good make & shape, nice head & expression, sound topline, not quite the quality quarters of 1 but pressed hard;

3 Anderson’s Kerrykeel Aoife, sound b, lovely expression, not quite the topline of 1 & 2, a little straight behind.

PGB (6)

1 Kenyon’s Wyndam Ciara, sound & well balanced, attractive, clean head into arched neck & well laid shoulders, strong back, good set-on with plenty behind the tail, moved well;

2 Kucza’s Brazan Amber Pageant, well balanced, clean head, strong back, good coat well presented, moved OK;

3 Bamsey’s Holbam Celtic Kate, well balanced, good shoulders into correct back, quality coat in good order, could have moved more positively.

LB (5)

1 Pratt’s Terrijay Whatever, very good type who pressed hard for the top award. Good, hard expression, clean head, good neck into well laid shoulders, strong back & good tailset, well boned, moved soundly. Harsh jacket in good order. RCC;

2 Wooding’s Sujoncla Dancing Orchid at Woodraith, quality head & expression, good overall balance, well presented harsh jacket, moved soundly;

3 Ruffles’ Ruffmar Bronzed Ballerina, good clean head, well balanced, quality coat in good order, moved soundly.

OB (6,2)

1 Kenyon’s Ch Wyndam Eithne, correct size in perfect balance throughout, lovely feminine expression, good arch of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, strong back with tail set bang on top & plenty behind the tail, hocks well let down, moved well coming & going with good reach of stride in profile. Good harsh coat put down to the minute. CC;

2 Rundle’s Ch Allatsea Gift Of Gold at Marshcourt, very good type, clean cut head, lovely soft expression, sound all through, just lost to 1 on overall balance & ring presence;

3 Ask’s Alcaphi’s Good As Gold, nice head & expression, good coat well presented, fair balance, moved soundly.

GCB (2,1) 1 S White Horse, another happy, sound dog, put down in good order, great ambassador for the breed.
