IRISH JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 16

Irish Terriers

Prior to judging the chairman of the Southern Irish Terrier Society spoke a few well chosen words & a minutes silence was observed in memory of Valerie Kenyon (Wyndam).

A small entry but I was, in general, pleased with the quality of the exhibits. I found all bites to be correct but a few could do with a teeth clean. Pads were good. The grass in the ring was a little long which did not always help the movement in some exhibits.

JD (1)

1 Cooke’s Montelle Carvillious Gold, correct head proportions with well carried ears & small dark eye, shoulders well laid back, straight front, strong hindquarters & harsh coat. Overall a smart & balanced dog who moved well & was on his toes. Pleased to award him the RCC.

PGD (2)

1 M Carvillious Gold;

2 Atkin’s Ghengis Khan, shown in good coat, nice size, would prefer better lift of ears, moved OK.

LD (3,1a)

1 Ghengis Khan;

2 Redman’s Applerock Lord Stefan, would like a cleaner head & better lift of ears as this spoiled the expression. Shown in good coat, movement a little erratic.

OD (2)

1 Howarth’s Mike Fergus, pleasing head with typical expression, correct ears which he used well, good length of neck & shoulders well laid back, straight front & strong hindquarters. Correct coat & shown in lovely condition. Moved & handled very well. Would prefer him a little smaller but he displays the characteristics I like to see in an Irish, on his toes & full of himself. Pleased to award him the CC which I understand is his third;

2 Thomas’ Montelle Royal Leader at Sunnystone, similar comments apply, lovely reach of neck, correct head proportions, harsh coat. Again would prefer him a little smaller. In the challenge for RCC just preferred the exuberance of the junior dog.

PB (2,1)

1 Grant & Hemmings’ Courtington Storm Angel, very promising 8 month old puppy shown in excellent condition. Pleasing head, dark eye & well placed ears. Good reach of neck, harsh coat, tail well set on with moderate bend of stifle. Shows very well. BP & pleased to see she went PG3 later.

JB (1)

1 Hargreaves & Dancer’s Montelle Sirona Flame, litter sister to my RDCC winner. Correct size with good body proportions, straight front, shoulders well laid back, harsh coat, good head proportions & small dark eye. On her toes &, although a little unsettled to start with, moved OK when she settled down. A promising youngster who deserved the RCC.

PGB (2,1)

1 Stahle & Nichols’ Shallcome’s Shenanakin’s, clean head, dark eye but could use her ears to better advantage. Nicely balanced & correct size. Hind movement could be more positive.

LB (2)

Two very different types who on another day will undoubtedly change places. 1 Ruffles’ Holbam Celtic Whisper at Ruffmar, pleasing head & expression with well carried ears. Straight front with shoulders well laid back. Shown in good coat & moved true both ends;

2 Atwell’s Xanwil Sorceress, presented in beautiful condition, correct coat, small dark eye, nice size but would like a little more substance. Straight front but has a tendency to stand a little wide. Well handled. Just preferred the overall balance of 1.

OB (2)

1 Barker & Averis Am Ch Irvonhill Leave It To Me, a feminine head of correct proportions, small dark eye & well placed ears giving pleasing expression. Good length of neck, straight front, body well ribbed back & tail well set on. Great showgirl on her toes all of the time. Beautifully presented & handled. CC & BOB & pleased to see her go G1;

2 Bamsey’s Ch Holbam Pearly Star, another nice bitch with a correct head & typical expression, small dark eye, well placed ears & good coat. I like her overall balance & size. Today she was a little sluggish on the move.

VB (1)

1 Williamson’s Ch Montelle Mi’Lady, what an ambassador for the breed & now in her 13th year. I have judged her twice before, both times as a veteran &, looking back at my earlier comments, the same still applies today. She is still shown in beautiful condition & has not coarsened in any department. Lovely feminine head & expression, good coat & sound bite. Congratulations to her owner.
