IRISH JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 14
Thankyou to all exhibitors for their entries at my favourite show. All mouths were correct and all pads were checked and found healthy.
Whatever breed I am judging, correct balance and symmetry for that breed is my overriding focus. Today there was a wide range of type, size and conformation. Many had excellent breed points but to me some were lacking in the complete picture.
Puppy Dog (4.0abs)
1st. Barker/Averis “Lakeridge Cahal” immediately took my eye; at just approaching 9 months he is a lovely size and balance with great ring presence. Nice weight and in tiptop condition, beautifully presented and handled. Very nice clean, well proportioned head, good dark eye, well placed ears that he will occasionally fly but they should settle as he matures. Correct length of neck to compliment his body, great shoulder placement, kept his topline on the move, tail well set on and carried with attitude, well angulated quarters, strong in pasterns producing good drive. Moved with great style and animation for one so young. CC and BPIB. I was delighted to hear he was awarded BPIS later in the day. One to watch.
2nd. Bradley’s “Montelle Strike a Vision”. Another nice type with good symmetry and ring presence. Not quite the elegance and refinement in head of winner but has a good eye and very well placed ears giving pleasing expression. Clean front, excellent topline maintained on the move, good tail set and quarters. Good bone without coarseness. Harsh coat, nicely turned out, showed and moved well.
3rd. Stahle & Nichols “Shallcome’s Rib Cracker”
Res. Wall’s “Saredon Red Hot Attraction”
Junior Dog (1)
1st. Moakes “Saredon Lord of the Dance of Jomoaka” Lovely make and shape, in excellent coat and well presented. Pleasing well proportioned head, good ears, slightly round in eye. Like his overall type but would prefer a little more of him in bone and substance. Unfortunately he was unhappy in his class but regained composure when moving and was assertive and alert in the challenge to collect RCC.
Post Graduate Dog (1)
1st. Redman's “Applerock Lord Stefan” Bigger, and more substance than previous winners. Strong head, ears a little open but alert. Shoulder placement not his fortune. Good tailset and angulation, moved OK.
Limit Dog (2)
1st. Bradley's “Montelle Royal Leader” Up to size and for me a shorter leg would create a better balance. Strong masculine head, good eye and very nice ear placement used well to give alert expression. Good front, correct shoulder placement, good topline and excellent tail set and carriage. A touch loose in elbow on front movement otherwise powered round the ring showing all the time.
2nd. Rundle's “Sidewater Master Cruiser” Not the condition of winner and standing a touch wide in front. Moved OK.
Open Dog (1)
1st. Stahle & Nichols “Shallcome's Brian Boru”Sound dog, nice size and balance making a pleasing profile, in good coat and presented well. Slightly strong in skull and not using his ears to advantage. Lovely shoulder placement, good topline, set on and angulation. A little too much muscle on shoulder and thighs. Not putting all in on the move.
Minor Puppy Bitch (2)
1st. Lovelace's Allwyn Therefore Brazan”Pretty youngster with everything in the right place, just needs time to settle and grow up. Lovely head, flat skull, strong foreface, a tad round in eye, really nice ears when she uses them. Nicely proportioned neck and body, lovely flow of shoulder into topline. Good set on and angulation. Good coat and colour, moved OK.
2nd. Gummow's “Pinleygreen Strictly Gold” Very raw baby not really enjoying her first day in the show ring.
Puppy Bitch (3)
1st. Lovelace's “Allwyn Therefore Brazan”
2nd . Cooke's “Montelle Leading Question” OK for size, good coat and colour. Nice head with sharp expression, eye a little round, well used ears. Good shoulder placement running through to topline. Brings her tail up nicely on the move, needs to tighten in front movement but time is on her side.
3rd. Gummow's “Pinleygreen Strictly Gold”
Junior Bitch (1)
1st. Bamsey's “Holbam Pearly Star”Very nice, lovely balance from head to tail. Feminine head with flat skull, good ears and expression, clean front, good neck and shoulder placement, nice topline and excellent set on and carriage. Moved and showed well in her class and would have been a contender for the CC but she lost sparkle in the challenge. I am sure her day will come.
Post Graduate Bitch (2)
1st Bamsey's “Holbam Pearly Star”
2nd Jones’ “Montelle Sweet Dreams”Quite fine but nicely put together, Lovely head, good length of foreface, well placed ears, clean front, moderate length of neck, topline could be firmer with a little more body weight. Giddy on the move producing hackneyed front movement. Good coat and presentation.
Limit Bitch (6,1abs)
1st. Pratt's “Terrijay Whatever” Very showy and animated, nicely put together. Good flat skull, nice length of foreface, very well placed and used ears, dark eye and good expression. Strong reachy neck and well placed shoulder but a little slack behind shoulder spoiling her topline, strong quarters, excellent tail set and carriage, in good coat and condition, moved well. Would prefer a little less substance and slightly longer in leg to give more elegance and balance but a worthy winner. RCC.
2nd. Anderson's “Kerrykeel Aoife”Another nicely put together bitch, very elegant, everything in the right place but opposite to the winner I would prefer a little more substance and slightly shorter in leg to complete the picture. Lovely long clean head and sharp expression, good reach of neck in to excellent shoulders, good topline and tail set. Showed and moved with animation. Lost to winner as she needs a new jacket and more conditioning.
3rd. Bamsey's “Holbam Celtic Kate”
Res. Wooding's “ Sujoncla Dancing Orchid at Woodraith”
Open Bitch (3. 2abs)
1st. Barker & Averis’”Irvonhill White Rose”Lovely size and substance, good muscle and bone, well balanced throughout. Fine head, good eye, well used ears. Strong neck flowing into correct shoulders, firm topline, tail could be carried higher but plenty behind it. Nicely boned legs and tight feet, well up on her toes and strong pasterns. Well angulated quarters and powerful movement. Great coat and condition, in tune with her handler and showed non stop. CC & BOB.
