IRISH JUDGE SKC AUGUST 13

Irish Terriers

Due to a bout of ill health, the appointed judge Sue McCourt had to call off from coming to the show & I was appointed to substitute for her. I’m sure all will hope Sue makes a speedy recovery & I know she will have been extremely disappointed to miss this chance to judge a breed she so admires.

1 RCC, Stahle & Nichols Shallcome’s Brian, although somewhat short of coat, I felt that he scored here on his head length, flat skull, very good muzzle & reach of neck. Good wither height, eyes are a good colour & he used his ears well. Ribs could perhaps carry further back, but he has sufficient hind angulation & the hocks are well let down. Steady action;

2 Cook’s Montelle Ringmaster at Terrahawk, beautifully coated & presented, so well ribbed & bodied, tail well set & carried & he as a fair width in thigh. Good bone, legs & feet, clear pads, shows well. Would like him a size smaller & he was playing up in front action;

3 Hardman’s Drumbilla Diablo amidst Bonosue.

OD (2)

1 CC, BOB & G2, Barker & Averis’ Am Ch Kells Touch of Fleet St, looked a class apart from all the other males. Lovely wither height, gorgeous head, eyes, ears & expression, long neck which he uses so well, ribs have enough spring & they carry well back to a good loin & well muscled hindquarters. Immaculate in coat, shows great forward reach & really drives from behind, certainly an elegant, athletic dog who can hold his own in any company. Only bowed the knee to the BIS winner;

2 M Ringmaster at T.

JB (2)

1 BP, Hardman’s Bonosue Whippersnapper, just 6½ months & in love with the world! Richly coloured, harsh jacket, pleasing length of head with especially good muzzle, good lip line & clean in cheek. Nice for size & weight of bone, just about enough thigh width & she does need time to settle to moving out around the ring, but she enjoyed the experience.

PGB (1)

1 McGhie’s Irvonhill Nettie at Keillor, what a shame this bitch was not over happy indoors & never really did her best on the move. Good size, decent length of body, ample neck, skull flat, eyes could be a tad smaller. Her coat texture pleased & she is well muscled & firm in body. Her action perked up a bit in the next class but she needs to be a bit more outgoing.

LB (2) 1 I Nettie at K;

2 Stahle & Nichols’ Shallcome’s Canoodle, nice size but is too short coupled so she lacks length & scope. Nice head length, very good eyes for shape & colour but perhaps could be leaner in cheek. She is well within the Standard height & in good coat. Disappointed me on the go around as she stepped quite short in front with little reach which swung the scales Nettie’s way.

OB (3)

1 CC, Kenyon’s Ch Wyndam Eithne, very worthy ch bitch indeed with an air of raciness & class about her. Always on the tip toe of expectation, terrific presentation & superbly handled. She is shapely, so well constructed & possesses a really good head, long, lean, flat skulled & neatest of ears. Uses that long neck to advantage, moved out so soundly. Gave the BOB a good run for his money & together they made a very handsome pair;

2 RCC, Davan’s Photo Finish at Kebulak, nice to see Judy Averis back in the ring handling once more. Another extremely good bitch of lovely type, proportions, reach of neck & tailset. Spotless in coat, her head has ample length & she is clean in cheek. I felt 1 had the edge in eyes & expression & this girl, though moving out well, never settled to give the polished performance of the winner;

3 Hardman’s Bonosue Snow Storm.
